My mom started doing high blood pressure in her 30's!! She doesn't drink (AT ALL), doesn't smoke, eats nothing but healthy food, keeps fit and active, and wasn't the slightest bit overweight.. Why are you clinging to a man who is clearly unavailable? / Call me cynical, but to me the most obvious thing would have been for him to say "listen.. it was fun, but we both know it ain't gonna work".. But he didn't do that... As soon as he told me he was taking the job, he immediately followed that up with telling me we could still see each-other every weekend, that flights really were very cheap, etc., and he was sincere about wanting to continue the relationship. So I was really flattered and reassured that he was so quick to assume there wouldn't be a problem.. I'm just not sure it's so simple for me.. I don't have a big jet-setting lifestyle.. *sigh*.. dunno.. I don't know what to say exactly. He knows I'm excited for him on the job front and I think it's great that he's going for it... And he must know I'm very fond of him because I'm like the *worst* person in the world for hiding my feelings even if I don't say anything.. But have I told him my heart is breaking a little at the thought of him leaving?? No. Just don't have the courage to own up to that yet. My new man is moving to another country in one week.. Well, the nasty behaviour I described does not belong in a loving and healthy relationship in my view. But hey.. Just because some people behave abominably toward their partner does not mean you should give up trying to find someone lovely

Ohhh I *hate* the silent treatment. My dad does it & it drives my mum nuts. I think if you're being quiet because you're thinking things through, that's one thing and perfectly acceptable.. If your silence is a form of "punishment", it's passive-aggressive and wrong. "Teaching someone a lesson" means you think you're better than them, and this type of behaviour does NOT (in my opinion) give rise to a mutually agreeable solution to the problem in question. That being said, little nasty attacks and/or nagging is just as counter-productive. So is rounding up your friends and "ganging up" against your partner. I think if you love someone you don't deliberately try to hurt them. Communication is key. I reckon validation due to poor self-esteem. I also think vanity. And finally, I think if you're that incredibly attractive it must be horrible having to trudge through everyday normal people (aka "the uglies") to find that elusive attractive person that is worthy of being seen next to your amazing self!! Aww.. Couldn't agree with you more. My high-school sweetheart used to give me all kinds of kooky gifts.. He once brought me olives because he knew I liked them!! Obviously it didn't cost him much, but I thought it was just so darned cute!! -
