spectre with dacron lines - softer openings?
justinb138 replied to wilcox's topic in Gear and Rigging
If you look at the order forms on PD's website, you'll notice that Dacron lines are an option on most of their canopies (all but the Velo and Katana). I wouldn't think that the manufacturers prefer it over any other type of line, just that most of the people buying canopies do. -
Are they trying to kill you?

You know, I've long thought this! I don't think it's just about engine power - it looks like they just can't design equilivent vehicles that are as efficient as the others. I'm sure they can, they just won't. I see Toyota commercials bragging about 9 models that get over 30mpg, yet I don't think I've seen a Dodge commercial that even mentions how fuel effecient their vehicles are. I'm betting that advertising that half their cars get 12-14mpg isn't a good marketing idea. I'd be interested to see their sales figures for these last few months as well.

I believe that in most states they would walk free the day they turn age 18. That's why 16-year-old's are often tried as adults for heinous crimes. Because they can't be trusted to be free again in just two years. Makes sense to me to try someone under 18 as an adult in that case, even with the age of consent being 18.

It's this mindset that got us where we are now. No, it's the mindset that buses are for poor people and that fuel economy is for hippies that got us to here and now. And communities that have developed since WWII have been built around individual car ownership. California as it exists today can't get away from cars. I suspect this is also true of Texas and other southern states that have been growing the past decades. The oil we have in reserves will only increase in value. Look back to Japan before WWII. Do you want us to be in their situation, where attacking Pearl Harbor was a gamble, but the only viable option available? Put bluntly, if you think we're in a crisis situation that dictates drilling our reserves now, then we're in a crisis situation that dictates upping the CAFE standards into the 40s, and banning overbuilt minivans that get 10mpg. How about just getting rid of every current car made by Dodge? I can't think of a car they have that doesn't have a hemi in it or get more than 20mpg...

Anyone know what the max sentance a minor can receive if convicted of murder and not tried as an adult?

He got "Busted!"...Info on what to expect?
justinb138 replied to somethinelse's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, for one thing you're comparing murder to sex, and I'm not sure how many minors convicted are actually charged as adults, but I'd be interested to see the figures. Consent isn't really the issue here anyway, we're talking about an adult preying on children over the internet. I'll be happy to discuss the age of consent thing in a different thread though. -

Different matter entirely. -

That's understandable, but the guy that was arrested was not from a different culture. -
From what I understand: 1. Some states: You can defend yourself against an imminent threat to your life using a gun in both your home and in public. (You don't have to try to get away from your attacker) 2. Some states: You cannot defend yourself against and imminent threat to your life with a gun without first trying to escape. (In both home and public) 3. Some other states (Florida before the new law): You can defend yourself against the threat to your life using a gun without trying to escape in your own home, but not in public. The laws vary from state to state

I know, and I think that the anti-gun people in question are trying to take advantage of that to mislead them. If they were being honest the ads would say "If you come here and try to kill someone, they might shoot you." The ad campaign doesn't mention it, but I believe the line is "an imminent threat to one's life", as in someone trying to kill you. Nope, but if during the argument he pulled a gun and started shooting at you, it would. Before the law was passed all you could legally do was try to run away and avoid being shot, if I am not mistaken. Eh, you can get shot anywhere in the world for that, it's just not legal. But there's a wind tunnel there!

spectre with dacron lines - softer openings?
justinb138 replied to wilcox's topic in Gear and Rigging
A few questions: Are there currently any other "micro" lines with the elasticity of dacron? How much of the opening shock is absorbed by the harness? Does it stretch any? -
What sickens me is the anti-gun people are trying to destroy the Florida tourism industry to help further their agenda, and using false and misleading information to do it.

Obviously he was, otherwise he wouldn't be in jail right now. If he was 21 and she was 17, eh, ok, but I seriously doubt that was the case. I don't think the police would waste their time on something like that. Personally, I find the fact that you mention 16 year old girls and cheap drinks together pretty messed up. -
Bull Shit. If somone walked up to me and loudly said I bumped into them, and I immediatly shot them in the head I would be in shit creek. Agreed, but this story is trying to convince people that nothing would be done. My basic understanding of the law is that it allows someone to defend themself (with a gun) in public if someone's trying to kill then w/o having to first try to escape.

I'll search for the info on it later today if things here at the office slow down.

If it were necessary to log in at least once before posting a classified ad, it would probably eliminate alot of the scams I see in there. Nearly all of the users that post legit ads have logged in before, and I can't think of any of the scams I've seen on there that actually had. Just a thought. -
That article puts a pretty good spin on what the law actually is.

If the numbers you listed were accurate (open at 350m), you were probably about a half-second away from a cypres fire.

Bull Shit I live about 10 miles from the Exxon/Mobile refinery in Baton Rouge, LA. I can in fact tell you that the largest refinery in the south is up and running. Why do you say crap like this???? I believe that the majority of them in the Pasadena area are back up as well, as they hardly were hit by Rita.

you pulled main or reserve?

Hmm... any more news about the indictment of DeLay?

There was a man killed down near Houston a few months ago because of that. I don't remember what liquor he was using, but I remember the newspaper saying there was 2 bottles of it. IIRC, the guy was a major alcoholic and was having throat trouble or something, and just had to get drunk somehow.

Probably, but temporarily. I haven't had any trouble getting gas here in N. Texas, and I haven't seen people lined up at the gas pumps either. Alot of people I know are starting to carpool though, and I've been riding the motorcycle anywhere I don't need my car.
