going for coach rating need advice
adrenalinejunki replied to adrenalinejunki's topic in Instructors
I am from a small Cessna dz and I am going to Z-hills in November to try for my coach rating. I have 126 jumps right now and about 30 minutes of tunnel time. Anything paticular that I need to know how to do really well before going? __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -
First night jump tonight!
adrenalinejunki replied to adrenalinejunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well yeah that would have made more sense but I just wanted to do them. We did 3 loads at night this weekend and had a high overcast to. But the city lights at the dz we jumped at was plenty enough to light up my canopy. What's the worst that can happen? -

First night jump tonight!
adrenalinejunki replied to adrenalinejunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Tonight at my DZ they have set everything up for me to get my FIRST night jump tonight. This is the only time in the 2 years that I have been going there, that I know of, we will be doing night jumps. I just got my B license this week and the DZO set this up for me to be able to do my first one. I can't wait because our DZ is right smack in the center of the fairly good sized city of Huntington, WV. Everyone tells me that this is the best DZ around for night jumps because of the city lights. I can't wait. I wonder if they decided to do this because they are thirsty? Blue Skies Brad B-27307 __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

I have not seen the video myself. I did'nt even know it existed until after our videoghrapher left the dz. If I can get it I will post it. I have a feeling that I won't get to see it until the year end video. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

Last night we had a party at our dz ( like we don't every weekend ). Everyone got shitfaced soooooo bad. I made the mistake of being the first one to go to bed. Everyone sleeps inside the hanger. I woke up this morning to see a friend of mine standing overtop of me snickering and trying not to laugh. I knew then they had got me good. So I got up and went to the bathroom and sure enough I was painted every color of the rainbow in permenent markers. It really took the wind out of thier sails when it all came off with the use of handcleaner and a lil scrubbing. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -
Ivan caused me to have to lay down in a foot and a half of soupy mud to fix a truck. We all had to wade this shit for the entire 14 hour day. Not including driving 3 hours home while wet and covered with mud. Getting knocked out of a days jumping was also worrying me to though. But it moved out faster than they thought so I got lucky. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen?

Jumper hurt during a Ky demo?
adrenalinejunki replied to adrenalinejunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks for the info. The wuffo rumor going around here said he was either dead or "they don't expect him to make it". These hillbillies around here can twist anything out of shape. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -
I got hurt pretty bad when I was a student doing a drunken BASE jump from the back door of our pilots house. I thought it was the front door where there was a deck. I had to yak and was wrong about which door it was. Hyper extended my right knee. So far the only injuries I have had skydiving were at the parties after jumping all day. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen?

Jumper hurt during a Ky demo?
adrenalinejunki replied to adrenalinejunki's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I live in eastern Kentucky and some friends of mine went to a rodeo and there was a demo jump. They said one of the jumpers canopy hit power lines and then he went through a chain link fence. He was carried off in an ambulance. When I got home from the dz tonight I found out that he was seriously injured and the demo team was out of Knoxville,TN. Nobody I jump with seems to know who it was. I was hoping someone may be able to give me a clue if these jumpers was from Knoxville and if the injured jumper is ok? __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

Hvaing an audible as a back up is what I have in mind. Students and licensed jumpers have 3 priorities: 1st Pull 2nd Pull at the proper altitude 3rd Pull with stability . Students should'nt have audibles set above thier preset deployment altitudes because they do need to learn to stay altitude aware on each and every jump. I really can't see anything wrong with having a dytter set for a 3,000ft siren if the deployment was supposed to be at 4,000ft. That is'nt teaching audible dependancy at all. It's just a wake up call reminding them that they must now save thier own life. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -
Should students be allowed to use audibles?
adrenalinejunki replied to lewmonst's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was jumping a full face Z-1 when I did a student jump at Z-Hills and could hear the radio (on my chest strap) just fine. I think the audible should be set for atleast 1000ft below thier deployment altitude so that way it is just a backup and can't be relied on. Skydiving is dangerous enough, anything we can do to make it safer will be doing good for us all. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

"Hey, I never heard the dytter, so I figured I had a few more seconds to get stable." __________________________________________________ Thats a good point. But I still think that having a dytter and the right instructions about what it is for would be safer than not having one. I'm not an instructor either though, but it just seems safer to me. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

They would'nt rely on it if it was set to not make a peep until 1000ft below thier deployment altitude, and if they were taught that it was a back up device kinda in the same way as an AAD. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

She was stable and had a minor turn but never went all the way around. She just lost track of altitude. The instructor was giving the pull now finger piont but when she got to the ground she said she did'nt know what it meant. I know for a fact that she had been told what the signal was but I suspect she thought it was a joke when she was told. She dumped her main when she saw the instructor dump and it was'nt in time to prevent her AAD from firing. He should have dumped at no lower then 3k but I geuss he wanted to get her to pull first. Her being his long term g/f may have had something to do with him chasing her down. Anyways it scared the crap out of me. I was the only one on the ground (slow day) and was watching from exit till landing. I just think that a dytter buzzing in her ear may have made her realize she should have dumped and passed her deployment altitude. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

today at my drop zone the DZO's grilfreind was doing her 15 second delay on static line progression and lost track of altitude and dumped about the same time as her FXC fired. The instructor also did'nt dump until about 1500 or less. I think this problem could be solved if all our freefall students had dytters. I know everyone says that a student should'nt have them because they get dependant on them, but at our dz and most others students are required to dump at no lower than 4k. If they had a dytter and it was set to go off at 3k then they would still have to learn to look at thier altimeter. I think this would solve the AAD fires that seem to be infecting our students. This is the 3rd time in about a year now. When I brought this idea up to the DZO today I was shot down just like I figured I would be. Myself, I think it is a great idea for all students to have a WAKE UP CALL at 3 grand when they still have time to pull with a lil altitude on thier side. What if an AAD fails? Would we have a fatality then? I was just wondering what everyone else thinks about the idea. I know it has been thought of before and maybe being used at some dz's. I think letting a student have an audible set for 1000ft below thier deployment altitude would greatly improve thier safety. How could letting a student burn it down to the piont of deploying thier main and thier AAD firing and having 2 canopies out at such a low altitude be safer and "make a better and safer skydiver in the long run" than giving a wake up call 1000ft below thier deployment altitude? I am really interested in what the rest of you think about it? __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen? -

I don't know which would be scarier, Bush keeping his presidency or Kerry getting it. Myself I think Kerry is a liar and a pussy. Atleast Bush is'nt scared of fighting when the NEED arrises. __________________________________________________ What's the worst that can happen?
