I was actually thinking about slider up for a terminal mary-poppins after I posted, but that seems pretty retarded. #1- Please explain? #2- That sounds like it has potential, but there seems to be something inherently wrong with the idea of giving up heading performance for the return of a lower openning. #3 Okay, I'll give you that one. #5 To me this doesn't fall into the "good reason" category. 6- Yea I didn't have that problem 7 and 8- linetwists and off headings are the reasons to NOT go slider up on unpacked jumps, but I guess if you WANT the practice. ***9- so you can more easily get your toggles unstowed before your canopy is fully open and learn how it reacts to control input before pressurisation*** I don't think you can get an accurate feel for this since at that point you don't know what direction your canopy will open and therefore don't truely know to what extent your control inputs are affecting the heading. #10 I don't know anything about McCartwheels, so I'll take your word for it. Got video? edited for spelling

I think you are going to die, but my advice anyway is to go slider off/down. I have done about 40 unpacked jumps and witnessed hundreds more and I have never heard a good reason to do any unpacked jump slider up.

Here is another article about this incident. http://www.sptimes.com/2007/03/10/Hillsborough/Urban_paratroopers_fo.shtml When you act suspicious, people get suspicious. The article makes it sounds like the guy who called the police was initially concerned about the jumper's safety, and called the police only after the guy responded suspiciously.

So either the lights were out and it was dark for packing or the lights were on and could have easily attracted attention?

Repugs take another swipe and unions and workers
AdamLanes replied to Lucky...'s topic in Speakers Corner
I don't know what a GS employee is, but I'll tell you my experience With Unions. I was a member of the IBEW local 177. They refused to let the members read the proposed contract before they had us vote on whether or not to accept the new contract. They gave a 10 minute power-point presentation that left me asking some questions including what was happening to my annuity and vacation. They then reluctantly told us that in fact we were losing our annuity and vacation, but we we're better off with the new contract anyway because we got an extra $0.35 an hour in our pockets and two extra holidays. Well I called them all liars because they took away my cost of living raise and I lost more with the new contract than I gained. The union constantly sided with the contractor when the contractor did not comply with the terms of "my" working agreement. Once I called the union hall with a grievance about safety conditions on the job, and some old timer told me he didn't understand why I needed safety equipment, because he didn't have it when he was an apprentice. Anyway, one of my biggest concerns with unions is that people don't get paid what they're worth, I mean there is no reward for productivity, and the union is like an obstacle for dealing with management. I now work non-union and make more money than I ever did with the Union. I will be anti-union till I die. Fuck the IBEW! -
That might be grounds for a lawsuit.

I see people swooping canopies all the time loaded less than 1:1

Word on the street is that business will be open in spring.

What about when the newbies think they're ready for more advanced unpacked jumps like reverse rollovers, floater tards, and kite unders (but not game overs)?

Hey Michigan you did what UCLA couldnt...you lost to USC
AdamLanes replied to jarrodh's topic in The Bonfire
Don't forget that USC lost TWO games this season. GO GATORS! -
dude, why are you jumping and purchasing a canopy loaded greater than 1.1:1 when you don't even have a license yet?

Being told NOT to check the spot!
AdamLanes replied to hjumper33's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You will see lots of dumb and dangerous people in your jumping career. Obviously this person is one of them. It is an excellent idea to always verify the spot for yourself. I would have told this person off. -
Were you the last person to manifest before the tandem? If not, then you would have a valid reason to be upset. Once I was attempted to be bumped from an overloaded king air load on the taxiway. I was one of the first to be manifested, and there were 15 jumpers on the plane but only 14 names on the manifest list. The manager asked me to get off the plane and wait for the next load since I was doing a solo. I told him to fuck off and bump the person that didn't manfest, but they flew the load anyway. That drop zone sucked

Best Near Beach DZ's for my vacation?
AdamLanes replied to chrismgtis's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I'll second -
Until this year I believe, it was still a hangable offence to rustle cattle in certain states in the USA. There have also been many rape cases that ended in capital punishment.

The time has come; which one should I do?

Skydive Taft is AWESOME! I highly recommend doing your AFF training at Taft! -

What about innocent until proven guilty?!? How do we know that those men didn't have the authority to move that construction material. It is obvious from the video that there is a communication breakdown between the Americans and the Iraqis. This video is disturbing.

Please elaborate why you are advocating against practice flares? Since I have never flared on rear risers while holding onto only ONE toggle, I would very much like to see the response before I try it for the first time on landing. I don't think I'll ever throw a toggle on purpose just for the practice thanks.
-
I once lost a toggle at the potato bridge, and I let go of the second toggle on purpose after thinking for a split second about how I would flair with one hand on a riser and the other one on a toggle. Afterwards almost everyone told me in the future it would be better to keep the second toggle. I think that is what I will do in the fututre if it happens again, but flair with BOTH my rear risers with the toggle just in my hand. I will definitely do a practice flair again before landing, but the one thing I will do differently is to just land in the water (site permitting), because it is VERY easy to stall a canopy with rear risers when you are not use to it!

Iowa Skydivers Drunk and Rude @ Twin Falls Outback
AdamLanes replied to SullyFlyer's topic in Archive
I don't understand the "outrage" about the timing of this post. It appears that the post was not a personal attack, but a continuation of the discussion from a couple of weeks ago about similar incidents at the Outback. Obviously some people aren't receiving the information and waiting to discuss it further will not help the situation.
