no complaining.... let it go... ................... there is NO good to be had, from pressing this any further...steve1.... In a world full of people who should basically be "similar",,, it's amazing how different people can be ,,, and how our perception of them can vary... .....Circumstances of the moment influence how we will feel about a person,,, be they "officials" or "just regular folks".....the wierd thing.... He probably got back into His cruiser thinking,,,, "well I handled THAT in a considerate and professional manner"......... ..... any follow up letter, or criticism, to his superiors will NOT have the effect you wish,,, anyway..... So let it be... ..... p. s. have a safe and careful hunting season... jmy

some people forget that skydiving is about being a family just as much as it is about jumping out of planes. ...... well apparently YOU haven't forgotten.. good for you...@ our dz I often feel that it is MORE about the people who get to see each other every week,, than it is about the jumpin' .....though I must admit... I don't mind the skydiving,,, ONE bit !!!!!!!

well Don't stop jumping..... You said that you had relocated....have you found work???.. are you happy where you are? ( regarding things other than skydiving........ ) If not,, then maybe your relocation is not yet finished.... Go somewhere ELSE!!!.. if it's logistically sensible.... and leave this dropzone Behind.... lemme guess... It is a place where ONE person runs everything???.. Is It primarily a cessna dz???..... Are they "busy" with students,,,?? Do they bump experienced people,, like YOU.... to "send up tandems"????.. If so... then fear not!!!!! your travels simply haven't ended yet......you may have just gone to the "wrong place" Go somewhere else,, at least for your skydiving and bring YOUR attitude with you... because you are correct..... Drop Zones should always be a place where the brotherhood and sisterhood which we all share.... should be evident and obvious.... If you have been jumping for a while,, then you know probably know how to help make that happen..wherever you go. Good luck. jmy

.........The value of any skydive ... should never be judged, by it's price.. ...wow steve1 gutted 550 cord!!!! Man,,, that's nylon isn't it ? pretty tough stuff. It seems to me we used a waxed cotton cord, which we would feed through the cone and then square knot ,,,over the static line,,,, "Out the top and down the bottom"....

.....likewise.... 5 sl... then freefalll... I often felt that the ten second delay was toughest,,, since you have fallen out of the propwash,,,, but have not yet accelerated to terminal velocity..... so the relative wind which is going across your body,, may not be adequate to allow you to bring in the right arm to pull, without allowing you to rock,, or even tumble as you pull.... I always felt that the right approach would be to go Higher,,, not lower,, and try a 15 second delay,,,instead of going back down to a 5 or 6 second delay,,,, where airspeed is even LESS.... I had worked for some DZO's who seemed to agree with me,,, and we got many many people over that "psychological" hurdle,,, by exiting higher....

Static Line..... the system developed and used by paratroopers in the '40s '50s and '60s... One end of the static line is connected at the main container. the other end is connected at the aircraft... The line is maybe 12 or 15 feet long.... The jumper falls that far,, and the main container opens, the static line is attached to the base of the spring loaded pilot chute,,,( packed inside the main container) by either velcro or "break cord".. ,,,, which then separates from the canopy and stays w/ the plane.... Yes exit is lower than the altitudes at which students of today will normally jump,,,, You can be UNconscious, and the static line will still extract your main from your back.... But please try NOT to be "out of it",, since you do need to concentrate on your arch,,, and on S L Jumps # 3 4 and 5 you needed to do a DRCP..... "Dummy RipCord Pull" ,,,, where a handle only,, without cable and pins,,,, is placed in the ripcord pocket..... ( Not pouch,,, Like today,,, but a pocket which was part of the main lift web on the jumpers right hand side...)... With Static Line,,,, each student is assisted, by a more experienced,,, JUMPMASTER... He or She,, gives verbal commands, and encouragement to the student,,, assists, if needed with the climbout,, tends to the static line,, to be sure it is connected and secure,, and reels it back in so that the next student can then move into exiting position... S. Line worked great for Cessna DZ's.. cause the plane only needed to go to 2,800 feet or so,,, the jumpmaster, could either exit after the last student or could ride down with the plane to get the next group of three.....While paratroopers using C-47's (the military designation for the Douglas DC-3 ) simply jumped out the door,,, in a tuck,,,,, Sport static line, most often requires that the jumper do a poised exit from the step..... The Jump Master could then lean out the door to monitor the arch and practice pull.... If the student did successful practice pulls,,, and arched properly,on 3 consecutive DRCP's , then they would go to 3,500 feet or so,, for their First freefall......a delay of maybe 3 to 5 seconds...... Then as long as stability was good, and body position was good at pull time,,, the novice would make progressively longer delays,,,, ( exiting at progressively Higher altitudes,,, of course ).... Most jumpers who began in the 70s or 80s likely made static line jumps,,,,But with the great improvements in AFF and Tandem,,,, static line became a less favorable way to teach skydiving,,, ( S. L. is great for teaching Parachuiting,,,, but to learn skydiving,, it helps if you are freefalling...) Plus with many dz's using larger jump ships,,, S. line became less practical..... Like many things which held important status,, as our sport evolved,,, S/L has stepped aside in favor of other training methods.... Of course,,, static line was usually a bit less expensive,, than say an AFF jump with 2 jumpmasters,,, but again ,,, no freefall... I made 5 S. L. jumps when I began....My first jump ( which was also my first Airplane ride ),,,including gear and training ran me 50 bucks,,,,the next 4 s.l. jumps were TEN!!!!! dolllars Each..... and my first freefall cost me 6 dollars !!!!! hahaha... so I got all my training, all my gear use, and all 6 of my initial jumps for a total of 96 bucks...hahahaha..( of course that was when gasoline was 33 cents a gallon and a six pack cost 2 dollars... Still the learning curve is much much better with todays curriculum.. and I have always felt that a static line parachute jump.... just wasn't a real skydive......... skydive softly, skydive often, skydive with friends jmy

Yup.... i did that once ,, after tracking away from an 8 way....pulled,,,got bridle extension, felt the pin pull,,,, then was head down, feet down, and Spinning!!!!! and still falling fast...The bag was out of the container and about half of the line stows had popped. It felt as though the bridle was hung up on a harness buckle near my hip.... but in fact It was a twisted bellyband.... Yikes!!!!!....I was bookin'!!!.. (although the bridle was twisted,, there was enough pull force on it, to slide along the bellyband webbing,,, and extract the pin.... the apex lines of my Round main,,, wound up getting pulled all the way up to the twist....I looked down to see that I was directly above the pea gravel,,, and that the peas,,, were as LARGE as I usually saw them when I turned onto final during an accuracy shot...!!!.....Whoa!!!!. I did not release my risers,,,, but I also did not just "pull my reserve".... I reestablished myself in the air,, by arching hard,,, and getting belly to earth,,, when i did I could feel my main d-bag fall onto the back of my thighs,,,, and i thought,,,,"There is clear space above my back NOW......... Pull the reserve".... So I pulled my blast handle reserve handle,,, and bang!!!!!! 26 foot round........ I was around 700 feet.AGL ..I pulled on the main suspension lines,,, until I got the d bag,,, and i crammed it between my legs,,(there were 3 lines stows left) , and stood up the landing... Only then did I realize what I had done..... I got away lucky on that one.... and later that night a rigger buddy of mine sewed a stiffener along the backside of the bellyband,,, to reduce the likelihood of a reoccurence.... .... good thing that the main d bag didn't spill open.....,,,or I may not have been around to enjoy the many many jumps which i have made since....

Hmmm.. even at larger "commercial" centers... once a jumper has made many many dozens of jumps.... most all of the Instructional staff ought to be on a first name basis.....at least...with you.. If you just went through their training program,, then you have spent a good deal of time and money and effort on lifts, gear rental, and instruction.....I should hope that the staff could be more helpful in introducing you around to the regulars,of course they may all be busy with the "students du Jour" sooo..... take it upon yourself to say hello to those who you can observe,,, as being the experienced crowd..... Skydiving requires a certain degree of self confidence, and "backbone" and personality....... Here is where you shall begin to learn those aspects of jumping....keep a smile on your face,, and have a willingness to be friendly.....listen just a little more than you speak,,,skydive safely,,, and. you'll be fine....

how is skydiving not unlike being addicted to crack?
jimmytavino replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hmmmm... I think you're just exaggerating here... but if you're not... i'd reply "speak for yourself, my friend" Sure jumping is and has always been a high priority,,for many,, myself included.., BUT as any responsible person knows.... "you have to Work if you wanna Play"... and so jumping can serve as a REASON to be productive, Hold down a fulltime job, assume grown up responsibilities,,, and as incentive to meet all these demands,,,,,,, In order,,,, that we can go jumping on days off.... and feel just fine about it.... So i'd say that it is VERY UNLIKE crack... which decimates the user... which hollows out the user's mind and spirit,,, and may leave the user no better off than a common "whuffo" who has never experienced the pure , and clean, and fulfilling sense of accomplishment,,, which a skydive delivers on a regular basis.... Crack is nasty stuff,,,, very insidious.........skydiving is our RELIEF from all things, nasty.................providing that it is just one part of a well balanced lifestyle.....and NOT the ONLY thing for which we get out of bed each day........ -
You don't approve? I'm disapointed. *** See attached: _Am --------------------------------------------- well after seeing those pics... I May have to change my mind....
