I've been using a VX-1000 for a while,, and yes the mic.. does stick out as far forward as the lens...but it's really not a problem. Wouldn't you lose the ability to pick up Audio,, if you remove the mic.???... Plus the mic. on the GL-2, the vx-2000, and the vx-1000, is mounted on the end of a "built - in" handle.... That handle is very helpful in terms of carrying the camera helmet,, isn't it?? Do you currently have one of these cameras,?,, or are you just considering it??? Are you concerned about the microphone getting hit,, or banged,,, at climbout??? or during openings???..In fact.. it gives a camera person a good incentive ,,,to be very deliberate and careful during climbout, exit,, etc. Otherwise,, can't you leave it on..? What is the plan,,,, so that you can still pick up audio???? if you pull the microphone off????.. As far as opening the unit up,, that can be done... Pull a half dozen tiny screws and you can open it up.. ( I did a repair to my mic. last winter,, when one of the plastic. "conductor strips" disconnected from the tiny pc board.).. the repair went well AND I learned a little more about my camera... only it's pretty delicate stuff,,, so be careful

... No doubt... A time and a place for everything.. what's acceptable at 'happy hour',, doesn't always cut it ,, in the office/corporate environment.... I'll give you this... When compared to men,,, in most work scene situations,,,Women listen better,,, understand better and implement better.... and as the Donald said..... " I don't think I'll EVER hire another man,,,,,,, again."...

..... poor Sam...... he doesn't get it... a sure FIRE way to have people NOT respect you...... .................is to expect/demand....that they DO respect you..( until there is a reason for someone to respect you,,, don't you DISrespect THEM,, by such an expectation?? ) When you are in a group of your peers.. ..your equals.. your personal goal should be to set a cooperative example,,,, await the opportunity to "step up and deliver",, to the benefit of the GROUP,,, and then do that over and over again,,, in a SELFLESS way.....the satisfaction which would result from such a "job well done",,, should be reward enough.... Do that over and over,,, with consistancy, a smile on your face,, a sense of humor, and as an example to others...... and soon,, respect and admiration from the group,, will manifest itself...

For 3 decades I have known of and heard of , Lake Elsinore as a Center of Skydiving History and Culture.. But I am an eastcoaster,, (northeast to be more precise) and so have never made a skydive west of the Mississippi River.(quincy was the closest I have gotten,,, so far.) For me... Lake Elsinore is only a photo in Skydiving Magazine, or Parachutist,, or it is Jaques Istel Saying.."Come to Lake Elsinore to SKydive,",, at the end of the Carl Boenish Movie,, SkyCapers... I have followed the rising and falling waters of the Lake.. and have been happy to know that the Jumping there has managed to continue through those changes......Yes.. Lake E... has only been a "stunning image" taken from 10,000 feet of what seems to be an absolutely breathtaking vista, far far away from where I am..... Still, when I first saw the post title just a few days ago,,, I was stunned..... my heart broke, and because I felt "so far removed" from that part of the world... I felt I was not entitled to post in this thread...And so I have been coming back to it,, to read,,, to learn, to find out what occurred.... I only looked at ONE photo which lewmonst posted....and that was enough I cannot and will not open any others...I can well envison the loss,,, without seeing it....up close.. What has prompted this post,, it the response which I see from our collective "world of skydiving"....Generous offers, of time , money equipment, sweat, emotion, energy and love..... My faith in the skydiving community did NOT need reinforcement... ( I have always believed in it's magic).... yet that faith has been proven here,,,, once again.....ya' can't beat "brotherhood and sisterhood".... and that is exactly what is being demonstrated now......!!!!! So many very very generous gifts.. You,, those who are immersed in this sadness, must gain strength and resolve from the outpouring of support which is so apparent,, all around you..... The whys??, the hows??, the what fors??...... matter little at this point.... The Loss is far too great for ME to comprehend,, but the Gain will be this....... a re-birth of energy of community, of passion and of love for each of you currently responding to the burden which was placed upon you.... You are in my prayers even though many of you are only words and avatars which flash upon my computer monitor,,, ( night and day)......yet somehow,,, " I know You".... ( You Will ) Rise like a Phoenix... fly high.. and then bask in the wonder that will follow,,, upon the re-emergence of your Drop Zone... peace, and strength... jmy skydive softly, skydive often, skydive with friends

....very little about this war..... has a basis in reality. example ... the purported Nuclear threat,,, the supposed W.M.D. Hell this guy was just a tyrant and a murderer ( Can you say Stalin? can you say Hitler? can you say Idi Amin? ) and ruled by fear and violence...but he seems to be lower tech ( can you say spider hole/ taxi cab?? )than we were led to believe.... .... as for WMD..... Those were the things which rained down on Baghdad and Iraq,, from fighter jets with USA insignia on them.... I know I know.. i wasn't there... but try telling ANY of the populace who live in that country,, that all those laser guided bombs/missles were NOT.. resulting in "mass destruction"... ....... We should try to make Peace,, Peacefully

.... we were not able to capture Saddam H, or to remove him.... the first time..( wasn't that a Gulf War Goal ? ) ..and i think this fact bothered G. H. W. Bush..... ....Hate to say it,,, but ..maybe It was personal... The elder Bush was CIA director,, back when the line of thinkin' was,,,It's Us.. ( the good guys) against them ( the bad guys)......( of course the CIA was plenty BAD itself) and he carried that way of thinking into his role as president.... Once his son " gained" that office.... The chance to "finish off" Hussein... presented itself...

Left Field??? He is not even in the BallPark This is a person who has lived an absolutley Un Normal life.... When I was kid growing up, my brothers and i were out playing baseball, mowing the lawn, going to school and going to church.. When OUR Dad disciplined us,, it was because we broke a window, or or got in trouble at school....or dis obeyed This guy's father would freak out,, if the kids did a dance move incorrectly, or if their singing was out of harmony... From the time he was a toddler,, this guy was "workin' for a living,," and not only that,,, but he was gaining Huge notoriety....With that came fame, with that came money and with that came a travel , and professional lifestyle with which few can identify.... As he became older and his "empire" expanded there was litterally nothing which was denied to him... and since those around him ( his advisors and such) may have been cautious not to "upset the apple cart" he arrived at adulthood seemingly unchecked... Certainly he is a rekowned singer and entertainer, and like many in that flashy business, he has permitted himself the indulgence of " doing as he pleases".... His "public persona" has been crafted to show him as a philanthropic, quirky, and perhaps flamboyant man, generous towards children and mild and peace loving....His fabulous wealth has enabled him to own huge and magnificent properties, spend time living in luxury, no matter where on the planet he may be,,,and to appear to be the "PeterPan" which his adoring public accepts unconditionally...... However due to his own blindness to the pitfalls of such a life,, he has allowed some personal desires, some emotional needs, and some "unacceptable behaviors", to overtake what should be a normal "common sense" approach to life... He misunderstands, affection for, and interest in youngsters. We all have affection for and interest in youngsters,, especially if they are family to us ( as with parents and their kids) or if we work with them ( as in teachers) or if we heal them ( as in Doctors, Nurses etc.) .. But most all of us know where to draw the line in terms of propriety... This man,,, secluded within the walls of his self created sanctuary.. has overstepped the bounds of our society.. It is one thing to put your arm around the shoulder of a child, and give them a reassuring hug,, and a far other thing, to invite them to your bed for a slumber party...... Even IF it IS innocent,,, ( and really,, how can it be?? ) It is NOT something that a 45 year old ADULT does..... Did he cross the line.... Damn right... Did he engage in damaging behavior,, Damn right...( even if the child was unaware of the damage,,,,and THAT makes it all the MORE unacceptable...) Did he allow his desire to be "close" to these children result in any type of physical contact, or any type of lewd or "excitable" behavior.? sad to say,, but Damn right!!!..... I base these conclusions on the disturbing interviews statements and behavior which M J has shown in the recent past... That AND the fact that he has "proclaimed".. " there is nothing wrong with sharing your bed" with youngsters....True enough,, Like the Tom Hanks Character in BIG...who gets excited when the lovely girl wants to "sleep over"... MJ may be the naive and innocent player in 95 % of the situations..... But to my way of thinking,, the 5 %,,, where he was unable to "resist" may have just caught up with him..... Thriller?????? I'll say!!!!! Let the Fiasco (trial) begin!!!

Wow.... in fact Wow Twice!! .........once for the number of jumps/videos you did ..... and secondly for the absolutely small main canopy !!!! Xaos 68 sq.ft......which your profile indicates you jump...... man that's a tiny main...!!!. any mals....?????... also any particular reason not to use an AAD...(I only ask in the event you get a bad spinner @ opening ) any squirell-ly openings while flying camera....? when did you have time to make up the videos????? Eos 2000 35 mm film camera???? .........Yes. The batteries can wear out pretty quickly... It takes 2 CR2 batteries right???.. I too found them quitting when least expected... It might help to 1.remove them completely from the camera, when it's not in use...and 2. be sure to have a back up pair on hand..... they don't seem to last long......... Nice camera but rechargeable batteries would have been a good idea....
