This reply is to Sunnydee123,, but is prompted by the above quote from mnischalke I would vote camera!!! But NOT for the reason stated above....since you need to know how to fly,,, way BEFORE,, you add a camera to the mix... granted I only speak from the video persons' perspective,,,,I.E. filming tandems, AFF, the skydives of others... and NOT from a freefliers' perspective.... It could be true ,, that if a freeflier adds a camera,,, but simply,, "lights it up" at exit,,, and then just goes out and "does the skydive".... then it can be useful for self critique.... But if you jump often with other's who DO have sidemounts and who ARE willing to share,,, then you initially use YOUR camera,, to firewire from their cameras to yours...and thereby build a video library of your own jumps.... You will know when it's time to add footage from YOUR perspective...and begin wearing your camera.. As for coaching,,,, can you try something,, like 2 ways or 3 ways with willing friends,,, who have a good level of freefly capability,, along with a willingness to share,,, and thereby increase your learning curve without having to pay alot extra for it???? then you sorta get both.....( if you like,,, pick up their slot once in a while) No offense here to those who "sell" their knowledge and work as personal coaches......but i see the coach concept as a step to use upon completion of the "student" phase of a jumper's career....and Not as a means by which "professional skydivers" pay their rent... or other expenses.. (flame away)..... Once a person IS a skydiver.. and has invested alot in time money effort, energy, and comeraderie,,,in this sport,,,then hell,, shouldn't they be able to have a friend or two dedicate a few dives,, ( for Free!!!) in the spirit of sharing what we know... with each other...( It USED to be that way) And usually those who were the recipient's of such consideration WILL someday return the favor to others,,, who are in need of such guidance Remember, the camera can be a HUGE amount of fun and allow you to preserve some real special memories,,,, without necessarily having to even LEAVE the ground.....shots from the packing area,, footage of all your friends, canopy shots, take off and landing footage,,, boarding area footage... video taken within seconds of landings,,, canopy swoops etc....all fine memories worthy of preserving. But as for "improving your flying ability".... be careful here,,,, because while that may be true,,, it also indicates that a person's abilities ( if they need improving) are not yet AT the point where a camera ought to be added to the mix.....

That's a good one!!!! It's unbelieveable what people do for some attention, in this case, a publicity stunt I think Ole Justin just got snookered... She knew all along that he would pull the outer garment off,( i believe they rehearsed it ahead of time.)..,,, but I think she was supposed to be wearing something else... beneath it....and chose not too... I mean c'mon... why the "nipple ornament" if she didn't expect it to be seen.. I was waiting for Ashton Kutcher to jump out and yell,,,, " Punk'd "!!!!... hahahah ( he got that gullible Timberlake once before. )... ....disclaimer,,, contrary to what it seems,, I RARELY watch cable tv .....jmy

Marijuana and Skydiving. Good, bad, indifferent?
jimmytavino replied to BravestDog's topic in The Bonfire
... Thanks for your objective input jerry81...my words were 100 % factual,,, I HAVE never seen such behavior in a jump pilot....( I guess I don't get around much ) Yet I will not disagree with your first hand observation.....True enough,, things may be MUCH different in your part of the world.... I try to show respect for pilots,,, until they do something which will lose that respect.... It appears that the pilot you mention has done just that..... Antanov AN-2 Bi plane... slooooow climber... tough to stall.... so.. you and your friends would do well to be careful out there....and Oh yes..... what was the response from the drop zone operator????.. good luck jerry81 .................jmy -
Marijuana and Skydiving. Good, bad, indifferent?
jimmytavino replied to BravestDog's topic in The Bonfire
... to suggest that a pilot within your "world of skydiving" might even consider smoking , or drinking and then flying jumpers tells me two things.. 1. either you have pilots of questionable judgement abilities, where you are. and so you are jumping at the wrong place... 2. you haven't been around too long,, and have a far too vivid imagination Get real benny ,,I have NEVER seen a Drop Zone pilot,,, betray his license, his profession, and his conscience ,,,or jeopardize his credentials by flying in any sort of imparied condition.... Hell,, most every pilot i've ever known or currently know, does not do anything of that sort,,,to any great degree,,, even after the 'light is lit"..and certainly NOT during jumps hours...Man Our jump pilots deserve far greater respect than what you are giving them... are you for real? .Maybe it's different at other places,, (and I am certainly not naive enough to think that it NEVER happens..but I sure have never seen it...) and I've been watchin' for a while..... ... you.. pal..... owe an apology to just about every skydiving pilot out there...a group which is far to under appreciated by far to many fun jumpers in general.. Hopefully most ALL of them are appreciated by the DZO and by the staff and those who KNOW what it involved in " up/down up/down up/down up/down up/down up/down up/down/ well ya' gettin' the picture???? Save for a renegade one or two exceptions.... I have found jump pilots to be far too capable , responsible and of good character, to even consider such a thing....but it's good that YOU approve.... .... oh yes the original question... NO...no drugs,, no alcohol... Did we all forget the safety perecautions we were taught in our first jump course??? or are we just ignoring those guidelines??Nothing has changed.... We need to be at our best, any time we jump...... and utilizing any sort of "enhancement" is a demonstration of poor judgement..let's be smarter than that... -

this may sound harsh.... but....... there are many many people who have a higher regard for their dog(s) than they do for people.... ... I don't get it..... the dog can do no wrong... in their eyes.... Man's best friend??? hmmmm... a persons best friend should be some other PERSON....shouldn't it?????.. dog....a gravy train "reprocessing center". ( i hope this doesn't constitute a personal attack,,,but it's how I feel about certain dogs and certain dog owners)

____________________________________ Well it sure DID look like the "main" spun into the round,,, which looked to be a very very small... canopy... But this is a "super elliptical" glider,, not a sport canopy...and the round sure could have been bigger.....The serious mismatch between the two,, may have contributed to the collapse.. still good evidence,, that Nothing !!!! is ever 100 percent....correct... As for "not transitioning into a downplane" with a round reserve,,,, that's only because you need 2 Squares,,, to make a downplane.. But I bet a sport main can twist into an entanglement with a round reserve ( choke it off) REAL easily... hence the release of the main..may be in order...in such a case. Nice piece of video work though...... thanks joeyramone .................... jmy ....p s . man he sure got that secondary out quickly !!!.... maybe too quickly,,, seems like there may have been a chance for the glider to recover... instead the pilot increased the amount of time allowed for an entanglement to occur...by having both out,,, for such a "long " time
