  1. I don't understand the white spacer on the # 2 picture....It seems like that is one side of the chin strap, where it connect to the helmet... I'm concerned about the way the metal washer extends beyond the diameter of the white spacer.... what's it's purpose??... True enough there is little likelihood that a suspension line might come in contact with that connection... ( under NORMAL conditions),,, but IF any lines were to brush past it..... I'd be "keeping my fingers crossed" for you...nice initiative... but sometimes it's best to go with what has been proven to work,, and work safely by others... ............an anecdote ,, if I may.... I saw an ad from a nearby C182 DZ, who is in a market where there are 3 places that potential tandem students might go to make that First Jump....Two of the places offer turbines,,, and charge 200 for the tandem... This place flies 2 C182's, only goes to 10 Grand w/tandems.... ( which the students don't even REALIZE),, and so this place runs a newspaper ad with the word CHEAP..... in large letters,,, and printed in a few places on the 3 inch by 3 inch ad Basically the wording is,,, "you want Cheap" ? "we are Cheap".. no 800 numbers,,, no charge cards,, which add fees, no twin engine planes...We are cheap!!!.... can you believe it?? .. My response..??... Sure I want CHEAP ....when I am buying scotch tape,,, or when I am buying groceries,,, or when I am buying a movie ticket.... But when I am buying a SKYDIVE>>>>>>>> Cheap !!!..... is the LAST thing I'm looking for......I want the BEST>>>>>and sometimes if you don't pay for it in the first place,,, you'll wind up paying for it,, ( one way or the other) at some point down the road....get it???? Skydive softly, Skydive safely, Skydive often. jmy
  2. I miss him so much and will join him soon*** ....
  3. ***That's in the Imax Movie "Adrenaline Rush" and it's Adrian. However, not to sour the post too much, he did fly the "parachute" but Da Vinci originally claimed that "any man could land unharmed" and you would NOT have wanted to land that thing cudos for attempting it though
  4. ...well man,,,, you ARE just kiddin'.... right?????? signed, jackfrostjimmy
  5. .....Hells' Bells Brother..... relax.........!!! after all.... you are IN A SKYVAN.!!!!..... having fun SKYDIVING..!!!!.... At E freakin' LOY!!!!!! for cryin' out loud...... It's all of "Us poor bastards", stuck up north,, where it's SNOWING!!!!!!!! and 15 degrees !!! who should be the ones to be upset....... As for 'The video'...... we're gonna be in real trouble when skydiving videos become the tool with which we try to "burn" one another........ Truth is ....wink wink.... I Think you're just playin' here....... CanuckinUSA ..... aren't you!!!????? ..or are you Serious??????....... : - ) jaytee
  6. Hmmm. Me too. I once saw a video of him being tarred and feathered by four other BASE jumpers because of his total disregard for BASE ethics. ... as you say Tom,,,, don't know him personally . have no opinion of him one way or the other... simply reporting a recognition of his name,,, which brought to mind the jump about which I posted... Thanks for your input which is I am sure, accurate and true . YOUR excellent and high standards, for which, the BASE community has great regard and respect,, will speak far better than any comment which i may make.....the community as an entity, is so much more important, than ANY one or two of it's members, and though I am an active skydiver, I have never "BASEd" ( reluctantly) yet quite well understand the concept of respect, for BASE sites, for those who share the proper insight required for BASE and for those who are on the leading edge of gear and technique development. Accordingly, the distaste for those who consider themselves to be the "showboat du' jour " and as such, "above such consideration " is an equally important concept and completely understandable.... The consequences of such unacceptable behavior is simply evidence of the natural selection process at work.... " I HATE !! Rude behavior in a Man ,,, won't tolerate it!!!"... Capt.Woodrow Call ( i.e Tommy Lee Jones) Lonesome Dove. edited to add quote....... jmy
  7. .....Seems to me that I recognize Mr. Vincent's name. I once saw a show which featured a video of him,,,( long hair ?? ponytail? ) climbing over a protective fence, throwing a kiss to the camera, and then Base jumping off the World Trade Center!!!!! It must have been 12 or 15 years ago!!!...maybe 20... He landed on a grassy plaza, and was hustled into a waiting car.... Does that sound accurate???? ...I also recall reading about the person who tried to land on the top of the Arch,,,( presumably after exiting from an airplane) but actually touched down, slightly off center,,,on the slope,,,and had gravity get the best of him. Despite activating his reserve, he was unable to land safely.....sad..... There are windows in the observation deck of the arch,,, but I doubt they could be opened to facilitate a safe exit......and certainly climbing the outside of the structure would be very risky...
  8. .. I DO save ALL the footage, which i have shot !!!!! and since I log all my jumps,,, I also cross reference from my logbook to the appropriate video cassette. The last decade or so,,, I have used the large spiral logbook which Mike Truffer designed,,,, and that leaves plenty of room for the usual details, as well as the tape info... The tapes are all labeled, in numerical order, including the year,,, when i load a new tape into a camera..... Sure, you can burn through a lot of tapes,, but this way you can also quickly learn how to shoot "efficiently" ,, and reduce wasted footage... I have had tandem students come back to me months and months later, because, " my Mom videotaped 'Days of our Life' onto my tandem video " and i felt good i was able to reproduce it.... Also, since I run two video cameras, I have wide angle AND normal focal lengths available to me as I edit....and as mentioned here, by others, the mini dv's are so much smaller than the old 8mm and Hi8,, why not save them..??... Of course,, I wear cameras on Nearly ALL my jumps,,, and the fun jumps are the ones which i will enjoy years from now,,, as i reminisce... There is nothing like the feeling of re experiencing one of those special skydives,, from the exact same perspective that It was originally viewed..... though of course,, nothing matches the original "3-D view"... .....Now, when 3-D video cameras,,,, ( can you say "Hologramography" !!!???) ( 'help me , Obiwan Kenobi, you're my only hope") become available,,, I will be breaking open my piggy bank and getting in line to order one!!!! hahahaha
  9. ....Sad.... but you are probably exactly correct...quade. just another case of show business types,,,, making a mockery of the institute of Marriage.. signed,,, someone who has been "institutionalized" for over 22 years....
  10. .. re" Marriage and then annulment"... ..that's what happens when an immature person / child...... goes a little crazy with the partying, and then has to report her foolish "behavior" to her Mommy.*.. ( IMHO) ...* who also happens to have a HUGE say in the child's business affairs......this girl lives in a "whole different world"......
  11. ......It occurs to me, after reading the replies, that i am something of a minority... I.E. someone who started jumping when young,, and stayed with it... I was 19 when I took a static line course..... Had NEVER been in an airplane til my first jump....that was 1972... I celebrated my 50 th birthday,,, on Fathers day 2003,,,,,, at the dropzone..... I can't lay claim to making hundreds and hundreds of jumps each year,,,, ( I have 2830 jumps over 31 years) but I can say that I have ALWAYS stayed active, and current,,,,( current helps keep us safe.....) and have now been jumping for 62% of my life..... True enough,, the training and the gear of today, as well as the turbine aircraft in use at many dz's allow for higher altitude exits,,,, bigger doors from which to exit, and a generally more encouraging atmosphere, in which to learn....I have always loved the sport for the way it accepts such a diverse cross section of people... Male /Female.... Old / Young.... Large/Small....as long as a person has a few smarts, and a willingness to listen.... they are welcomed... skydive softly, skydive often, skydive with friends
  12. Re: the USA formation.......... If the dives were done as a demonstration and done above thousands and thousands of spectators on the ground......why wasn't the USA dive,,, designed so that it could be read,,,, from the ground....???? and not from above the formation,, as it seems in this pic... just' wonderin' ,,,

    baked ziti

Baked ziti is lasagna,,, but with ziti pasta, ( a tube shaped macaroni), instead of the larger lasagna pasta.. Mixed with sauce, a few types of cheese, (ricotta, parmigianno reggiano, mozzarella) some meatballs or sausage,, a little love,,, and then baked til it all bonds together,,,,... First you cook it,,, and then you eat it..
  14. .....you may want to consider some way to fill the space between the still camera body, and the quick release,, and for sure,,get some gaffers' tape over that bend in the release mechanism.... nice looking helmet.

  17. ..........someday you Will !!! As for those days.... I never found, that I needed to "learn to love skydiving all over again ",,,,, since I have always loved it...... Not only do we get to fly......and share the smiles of freefall,,,, we also get to meet some pretty wonderful and amazing people.

    helmet cams

..... ...for sure... if it is -20 F,,, I think i would be sittin' near the fire.. reviewing footage.. But if it's nicer out,,, and if you're carrying back up batteries,,,,it sounds possible.... Thanks for the feedback, from individual users of video cams on the slopes.. .. What are your thoughts, about a video "concession" ? at the local ski area? ski softly, ski often, ski with friends....
