  1. So now we face Hurricaine Rita...... Less than a month ago it was Hurricaine Katrina... Well If these storms are named alphabetically, what happened to the letters l, m, n, o, p and q ??? Sure there may have been a tropical depression or a 'named storm' after Katrina, which stayed away from landfall.. but were there six of them......?? Oh Yes..!!! there was Ophelia on the eastern seaboard, now that I'm thinking about it...
  2. ..Keep the friday Nite partying to a minimum... Get a goood night's sleep... Wake a half hour earlier than you planned,,,, so you can have a healthy breakfast...and get an early start to the airport
  3. ..... what Gemini Said... it is alll Deficit Spending... I have a strong sense that most of the numbers are Skewed, anyway. ( very much like the Fed Unemployment #'s !!) We lost the "buy now-PAY NOW!!! " common sense approach to consumer spending, decades ago...and just as more and more individuals are on the wrong side of the equation,, SO is the USA Federal government>> Isn't it common knowledge that we have a 4 trillion dollar DEBT??? Can anyone tell us if the the Government back in the early part of the 1900's and on into the 40's and the 50's operated with a positive Treasury Balance on hand???? When did US Income Taxes begin???? I'm not a historian or economist but it seems that this Government Used to be solvent!!! As the50's , 60's and 70's arrived , we as a society, were blasted with offers to " Buy now Pay Later "....most everyone replied... " SureThing".... and look where we are now.... Sure maybe that sort of thing stirs the economy,,and I recognize the wisdom of Taking Loans to buy a Home.. ( though certainly NOT to buy a Car!!! )... but I see more businesses, families, and individuals in the red now, than in the black....!!! Much of it is because of growing expenditures for personal taxes, insurances, payroll taxes, health care, utilities, and communications... and it portends trouble....We have a goverment which takes.... from everyone who is lucky enough to have work... gives little back to those people and instead throws it at this program or that program, or at this overseas country or that overseas country,, and soon it's all gone...Washed away.. so to speak... The Government just follows suit by deficit spending...... It seems to me less than 10 years ago , as a nation, we had a balanced budget.....what happened..??? I don't know everything... but I do understand the concept that you must have LESS 'outgo' than you have 'income',,, and if you don't.... you have to do something about it...the least of which is to "continue happily along, with a silly grin on your face, continuing to spend" as though there wasn't a care in the world....... Plenty of questions.. Anyone have the answers?? jmy.....Sept 16.....anniversary of my first jump
  4. The Bond Flicks often have good stuff.. thanks to B J's abiltiy to create the footage and Cubby Broccolis willingness to finance it, and then USE the footage ...but... my choices would be # 1 ......Fandango # 2 ... The Gypsy Moths...
  5. for years and years I jumped with NO helmet/hat at all.... I'm pretty tough.. jumped with fairly capable people, enjoyed the freedom of going "hatless",, and always flew/fly my canopy quite conservatively... i.e. no bad landings... However from time to time I would lose a pair of eyeglasses during freefall.. so then as long as i was going back to a helmet, i figured,, "might as well mount a video camera on it"... Now,, if not jumping camera,,,, a do wear a frapp hat to house my Pro track and keep my glasses on my head...
  6. made 4 jumps at an airshow a long time ago out of a Tri-Pacer... ( a little Like a P Cub.) we took the door Off.. and my buddy and I took turns, since One jumper with gear maxxed out the "passenger" compartment.....
  7. "What is your Favorite Plane" ........Whichever one I happen to BE in,, when it turns onto a jumprun at 14 Grand AGL !!
  8. Sure thing man... i raise a glass as well,,, to stand beside you in his honor.. funny ,, but just yesterday my thoughts drifted to Tommy C. and my mind wondered,, "Damn,,, it was around this time of year.........wasn't it ?"..though I was not sure of the date.... Your bond was and IS evident, and real and genuine, and total...... HOLD onto that... Use it to enhance the many many connections and friendships you have accomplished in this sport.... As Tommy is at peace so should you be.... This thread does a great deal to explain another thread which you authored a day or so ago..... Sadness is sometimes inevitable, and No one should say,,,, " Oh that's ok that's ok...it will pass"... In many many cases,, It will never pass.. and that is the way it should be..... when such strong and honest and solid friendships have been created... it is essential to remember the good,, the fun times,, the happy memories... Focus on nothing else..... and Skydive with him once again,, tonight and on any other night you'd like,,, in your slumbering dreamtime moments..... peace chris............. jimmy from frontier
  9. .. easy... Find an Idiot ( like yours truly ) , who always flat packed and who still flatpacks,, ( of course I learned flat packing only after years and years of "flaking cheapos" )...HUH??? Ask him/her to show you how..... it is very straightforward... ..... works just fine for me..No mals in over 25 years. ...Only bring your own packing mat and be prepared to find a place away from the "normal ' packing areas,, since flat packing takes up a bit more space and when it's crowded , you may feel like you're "steppin' on peoples' toes" p s I find it to be a lot faster as compared to those around me who are still not yet d-bagged,, while I'm closing my container.
  10. Ques. # 1 Gaffer Tape over the ends of the stick .......( edit to add ) actually tape right around your arm or leg, Keep it loose, but one and a half wraps or more so the ends of the tape overlay,, will keep the sticks with you through freefall better than just taping the stick to the jumpsuit,,( but you knew that...
  11. Joe Walsh album from a while ago. "The Smoker I Drink the Player I Get "
  12. 'Shooting a roll of film in freefall. none left for landing" go digital.... get a 1 gig card... worse comes to worse,, you can power off the camera under canopy and then re energize it for landing shots. afterwards you can save the good ones, and delete the rest...........
  13. a connected rsl should be considered when you chop*** Yes... agreed but for most that consideration is made WHEN they decide to USE the rsl in the first place.... I believe you'd agree with me.. that anything which takes TIME,,, could pose more problems than solutions.... NO NO NO to devoting any time to disconnecting that lanyard,,,, unless.... the jumper has MUCHO MUCHO altitude.....like a malfunctioned main at exit,,, or as you say, a canopy wrap.... ( CReW must always be practiced with a hard deck in mind.....so that any wrap occurring would happen ONLY above that deck ) then if the jumper is at 4 grand or higher lets say,, there would be some time to release the lanyard.... Though I know of very few Canopy Formation pilots who would even use an rsl... Students, novices, and intermediate jumpers should not burn valuable altitude messing around trying to fumble with that lanyard Period they should move into em. procedures, just as Jeth did........immediately Unless it is the dead of winter or weather conditions are especially brutal,,, an extra 1,000 feet or 2 or 3 ,000 feet spent under the reserve should not be a problem..... When a jumper's level of experience and saavy grows,, and if emergency procedures have been properly executed once or twice,, including immediate pull of the reserve handle,,,upon cutaway then the individual decision whether to use or forego the RSL can be made,,,,,, But in most situations it is a good thing to have.....
  14. Way to Go !!! never mind those who say,, " No Pix,,, it didn't happen!!" .... I would reply... " The only Pix that matter are those 15 Ben Franklin Portraits!!!! "....... right???? hahahahahaha... cool....... It's all about the attitude!
  15. ...whoa... tough scenario... so then the cutaway on the main went ok... but the reserve bridle caught your helmet????? ...That's Just what the freebag design is for.... Didn't your reserve canopy STILL spit itself out of the D Bag and Inflate????... I sure hope so... In that situation,, while the bridle may still be snagged on your helmet, with and open resrve canopy over your head... WHY????? would you have to cutaway the cam helmet??? seems to me that the situation would have saved having to chase down the pilotchute/freebag.. . I would do my best to free the bridle from the helmet,, and then drop it so it does NOT influence your descent.. But since things worked out Ok by cutting away the entire helmet... you did good. Oh did the Pilot Chute /bridle freebag stay with the helmet all the way to the ground????Did the pilot chute inflate soas to reduce the speed with which your camera HIT the ground???.. was everything recovered???... ( sorry, I did not go and check the thread which you mentioned....)... jmy
