Religious Authoritarianism Has America nailed to its Cross

But we're not assuming. Bigun said the writer was responsible for the reader's interpretation. The scholar of the writings is not the writer. -
Religious Authoritarianism Has America nailed to its Cross
jakee replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
The scholar didn't write it, so why is it his responsibility? Not to mention that you'll never find a single bible passage that all scholars agree on, so if the interpretation is purely the responsibility of the writer then how can it possibly be another scholar who would help the would be scholar with the interpretation? This is the opposite of what you were saying before. Because it's true. -

Given that this is a discussion about the bible how do you propose the receiver presents those questions to the author? Further, you realise that you gave no indication of this in your original post and the two subsequent clarifications of it, and that Skyfall's apparently mistaken interpretation of your posts is still your responsibility? -
He’s said there are things you can’t do by executive order that should run through the legislature. That doesn’t mean you can’t use executive orders to do things you can do by executive order. How many EOs had he signed that simply undo Trump’s EOs, for example? No one with any integrity would argue that a person who disagrees with overuse of EOs should not also be able to do that.

And yet a factual reading of this thread shows you to be wrong. Again.
-
Doesn't quite have the weight of 'won't someone think of the poor children' though does it? I can see why you decided to try and sneak the other argument through.
-
A ) That has no relation to the claim you made, or the claim Bill made that you said was wrong. B ) You think the pressing issues facing families that can afford neither gas nor milk are how to get their kids to football practice and jiujitsu? Ok Marie Brentoinette.

Nevertheless, he is right. It is the argument you made, and repeated several times so there was no room for misunderstanding, that interpretation of a passage is solely the writers responsibility. If he reads something you wrote and decides it means what he said, then it's your fault that he decided that. -
Because of a more than half century long campaign against public transportation, not because it's too difficult or impractical to implement. When 45% is most then yeah. Sounds like you learned math on a Republican electioneering course.

You know what Brent, whenever I see someone post all this stuff without attribution I wonder what it is that they're trying to hide. In this case Brent, it was pretty easy to find out what you were trying to hide. You were trying to hide the fact that this paper was published in April - fucking April - by a man whose conclusion was "It turns out that the peak of the virus’ spread has been behind us for about two weeks now, and will probably fade within two more weeks." Does that sound right to you, Brent? Was the peak of Coronavirus spread behind us in April and did it fade away two weeks after that? In other words do you think the paper's author was correct or was he terribly, terribly wrong? And while you ponder that, I have a second off topic question. I can get why you want this persona of yours to be edgy and snarky, but why do you want it to be so weaselly and dishonest?

Except for the people who’ve had it twice. Delaying the inevitable is a very, very good thing. If you try and develop herd immunity through letting everyone become infected then huge numbers of people die and you risk overwhelming the medical infrastructure so even more people will die. If you suppress the spread until you achieve an effective vaccine rollout then far fewer people die. Again I’ll point out that you called the left bloodthirsty when 1 person died, yet you are advocating for the deaths of hundreds of thousands.

Let them drink gas.
-
And you say the left is bloodthirsty?
-
It's like the impeachment effort - the chance of something working isn't always the same as the value of trying it.
-
Yet Brent is arguing the opposite. I'd like to know why.

He brings it up so often that my assumption is he once accidentally took a guy back to a hotel room and has never got over it.
-
Yes. Why does this rank so high in your list of priorities?
-
Why do you think Trump was the best Republican candidate there has ever been?
-
Thereby demonstrating the breadth and depth of your understanding of politics.

That's too far down the rabbit hole even for me!

And as a result lost the House, lost the Senate and lost the Presidency despite having the incumbent advantage. If that's what the Republicans were able to do with the greatest voter mobilisation tool in 80 years, just how bad was their core message? Think about it, how out of touch, how devoid of ideas, how politically and morally bankrupt did the Republican's platform have to be to have such a phenomenal voter effort on their side and still lose everything?
-
If by Democrats you mean people who believe in democracy then yes, on 6 Jan most Republicans finally caved to the will of the people as demonstrated in a free and fair election. That’s who the Republicans are in opposition to.

That is true. It's funny to see that Fox is busy prepping for its place in the new reality by.... firing the guy who correctly called Arizona for Biden and (probably) promoting a woman who was a leading cheerleader for the fake electoral fraud story. It's like they've decided they don't need to face up to any of their failings if they just pretend the election didn't happen.
-
"Remember folks, we are the Never Biden media! We're driven by rage and hatred to declare war on a President of the United States, and that's why we tell it to you straight."

False, not falsifiable. A falsifiable statement from a politician is actually a good thing, because it means they’re communicating clearly and with accountability. Politicians who try and speak only in non-falsifiable statements are the slimy ones.
