  1. agreed, if the divisions do not bring more bodies to the meets, then it provides no benefit to the swooping arena and make it more complex than it has to be. The thought only holds up IF it would provide more incentive for lower w/l pilots to want to try out a comp that they may have avoided because of the intimidation. I would suggest perhaps that ONE comp be done this way, heavily advertised as being a 2 division comp ( say under and over 2.0 w/l ) and just see where that gets us. If it get's done, just once, I will personally put up the purse for the under 2.0 w/l class and we know darn well I have little chance of holdig on to it. ..... there, I put my money where my mouth is.
  2. I was not aware this was seriously discussed before - as you know, I am a noob.... so what comes first .. the new competitors or the new classes...?? If there is serious interest in getting more pilots to compete in potentially new and amended formats, then why not change the comp formats to include w/l classes and reinvent it to be potentially more inclusive??? I realize this topic requires face time for explanations (and lots of beer/Vodka etc.) to hash out but it might be the shot in the arm to get newer swoopers (and who of you guys wouldn't like to see more swooperchicks) to compete??
  3. okay okay - let's keep this thread on topic, shall we?? what do you PRO PST/CPC guys think about the weight class idea to get more women involved / reduce the intimidation ?? Is it something we can incorporate into a potential new format since we seem to be heading into a new era???
  4. I hear you !! I have some room left as I am heavier and can still (with time) downsize and go to x-brace as I am now just starting to fly a 97 Katana ... Perhaps weight classes or in our case w/l divisions would be the answer to even things out and give more women the opportunity and perhaps incentive to get into the discipline and compete.
  5. I hear you, but I'm not in favor of splitting the sexes in this sport. I don't really see the point. There are no real restrictions physically for us not to be able to do the same things as the guys, in the various disciplines... Maybe it takes us longer to get to the same w/l for swooping, and there are some additional challenges in getting to that 2.7 w/l(LEAD!!!), downsizing to scary small canopies.. but I for one, am not for it. Seems to me in a progressive sport like skydiving, we'd be going backwards as women....but that's just my opinion.
  6. ... and inspiration to us chicks who try like hell to get to be just a little like her...
  7. I appreciate the hospitality!! See you in CO...
  8. ...anytime... ...just tell the pilot to cut the engine abruptly and if I am anywhere near you - you'll get a soft faceful of something Pia ..I wish I could have seen the faces of the rest of the planeload but it appears we made everyone's ride to altitude
  9. yeah, it's tough to go the distance when you're w/l at 1.6-1.7 and NOT on rears... :) Hopefully that will change for me for 2009! Awesome to fly with you Steve. Your face at exits made my day!! Thanks for keeping me smiling thru a rough day.
  10. cool. good for you. let me know what you learn on the Katana ! I am loving mine but have oodles of time that I have to spend on it. I hope to put 300+ jumps on mine this season with more coaching in FL over the winter and THEN see what happens... When I can score 6 rounds at a CPC, on rears and get out of the pond on the Katana 97 (with some lead on, admittedly) is when I will go to the Velo... before that consistency happens, I don't see the reason for it for me, but that's the old lady talking here... I wont heal like you :) If I am 43 before that happens, so be it, (and I am a slow learner...) but I want to fly the Velo, not the other way around...ya know??
  11. so.... not to add fuel to this fire but just for my curiosity, what I want to know is how many established amateur and/or pro pilots out there went under a Velo at 200 "canopy jumps" and less than 500 total with a w/l of 2.0 or better ...even with coaching supervision??
  12. We're on for our 3rd SwoopFriday at Sussex June 20 - We'll have the 182 at our disposal, $18 to 5K - $17 if we get 60 jumps total in for the DZ. Course will be mowed and marked by Utah Steve (DZM) Very short grass for those freestyle practice rounds... There's WiFi for those who are on the sly... Check out the news and some pics on the gallery at www.jumpsussex.com See you there.....cuz man, I need the practice...

  16. nor have I - it seems to be a last minute decision these days.........I might have to organize it this time. Since I cannot get past 100 pts in CPC and it's getting embarrassing, I might as well become the SwoopOrganizerChick !!! ....c'mon Mike, we can do it! You do the lane set up in the pond , I'll keep the scores ....LOL! Fat chance, I know...
  17. Ian, I was kidding !!!! :) You can find me hugging the tree Friday :)
  18. My husband is an arborist and from what I have learned in the 14 years we've been together is that one cut nice and close to the ground will take care of all your problems :)))).... the bitch is the clean up :) Nah, really I am a tree hugger like my hubster who is a certified "tree doctor" (pre heli school ) so I dont wanna see a good tree go down....I'll manage....
  19. well, then I guess I am out of excuses See you there !!!
  20. yeah, but I don't have to turn OVER them to make the gates :) therein lies the difference....
  21. Oh Jeez, Ian, as if I didn't have enough issues with this CP stuff.... You know I can't deal with tree lines even 50' away w/o freaking out...
  22. it'll certainly get the "pucker factor" up :))
  23. I ALWAYS stow my excess brake line but this was one of those incidents where I used a packer, did not ask him specifically to do so, got the sight mounted the next day and BLAM!!! the first time offense of the golden rule caused the loss.... it only takes one time.... hard lessons to learn but there you have it... I've learned it ... never assume anything.. Even when using a packer for any reason, I am/was always religious about stowing my own brakes, slider etc., but since I am really new to tandem vid, my darling packer was kind enough to let me drop and go to do the dubbing so I had the extra few minutes as the pressure is on at the DZ to produce the vid and stills in 10mins... I didn't even THINK about asking him to make sure that the extra brakeline was stowed... I'll be doing all that stuff myself from now on... and get that video to the student in 13 mins instead :)
  24. Dave - you got a way about you... let's hope you're good to go on Friday. PM me Thursday
