  1. It's totally normal. Obnoxious, but normal. It's from too much stress, too much caffeine, not enough sleep, or any combination of the above. It won't kill you. There is no treatment other than destress. Oh, I'm an eye doc, so know a thing or two about it. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  2. So chickens running all over a farm with no predators, plenty of food, shelter, water, clean conditions, isn't good enough for peta? Hmmm. What about pet animals in captivity? I have 2 dogs, 3 cats, guinea pig, rabbit, and fish. And beef marinating in the fridge now that I think about it. I'm peta's worst nightmare Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  3. So as long as I raise my own grain fed and spoiled rotten chickens who have free run of my farm when I have one, I can eat all the eggs that I want to? And The chickens too since they live full and happy chickenish lives under these conditions? Or did I misread that quote? It's monday, not firing on all thrusters yet Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  5. I agree Bush is scary for the same reasons. But I think Kerry is no better than a see-sawing front man as well. Neither truly has a strong stance on anything plus the intelligence to back it up. Can I vote for Nader? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  6. I can use Latin phrases all day. 6 years of Latin in Jr. High/HS. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  7. I agree to a point, but the lie is to yourself. I had the practice marriage. Married the wrong guy because it was what I had drilled into my head. You go to college to meet a man, marry him, have a litter of children and serve his every need. That's exactly what I did. I loved him, but didn't really like him. We hoped to change each other, do some fine tuning. It lasted as 4 years of hell. We were both miserable, I was often bruised. I called it quits when he started kicking my dog because he was pissed at me. Best move I ever made, never should have married him to begin with, I lied to myself for years about him and our relationship and how insecure I was that I'd marry the first guy that paid serious attention to me. I've since found a man that makes me whole in every way. Every day starts and ends with 'I love you' and he never fails to support me in every way humanly possible. When he proposed, he listed a lot of my better qualities, but ended the proposal with 'and you like me.' That's the most important part of our marriage. We're in love, but we truly like each other too. Hang in there. Evil marriages exist, and divorce is a horrible, painful entity and one of the most difficult things to go through. It makes you angry and bitter and cynical and want to crawl into a hole and write off society as a whole. Been there. I know what it's like. I also know that by putting one foot in front of the other (and possibly getting a little help from a counsellor) you'll make it. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  8. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Could you fill me in on how gun control helps you when you are confronted by an armed attacker -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- No. As I do not expect such an event daily. Quote Not everyone lives in concrete jungles. Even in blissful suburbia here, we have a rabies issue. I hike, in areas full of rattlesnakes, occasional bear. Again, rabies is a concern. I've never had to use a weapon to defend myself, a rock or loud noise or just waiting typically does the trick. But if I am confronted by a rabid 'coon, I will not hesitate to shoot it. I have the right to protect myself on the trails. I often hike alone, often on the Appalacian trail, which can be extremely dangerous. A lot of people are mugged/raped every year. Having weaponry on me both from a person and animal perspective is the only wise thing to do. There is no fear at all in me about other people, whether armed or not. But there are certain situations in which not having a gun or other form of defence is just not appropriate. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  9. Okay, so because a roof over our head is an inalienable right, everyone should have free housing. Food is pretty damn important too, so I guess my next trip to the grocery store should cost me nothing. Clothes? Water? Sewage systems? All should also be provided to me for free since I have the right to these things. Education is an inalienable right as well. So my 126K student load debt shouldn't exist. Let's be realistic. Those who truly are in need to have systems to provide health care. Medicare, medicaid, med plus, access, blue chip (which covers all kids regardless of income level). Docs doing pro bono work, area health clinics that give free health care by volunteer doctors. Systems exist to provide health care for those who need it. There is no reason that it should be completely free. If you need it, you pay for it, at least what you can. Life is not a free ride with every human need to be handed to us on a silver platter. 10. If you think that's an ethical way to behave and how you would want someone in your family to be treated by a guy that they have feelings for, then sure, go right on ahead. Personally I think it is far behind assholeness. To mooch off of someone is repulsive. Says a lot about your character, and any woman who found out about that in the future would hightail it another direction no matter how wonderful you may be in other areas of life. 11. Whichever has the nicer ass? Is better in bed? Honestly, I go for the 'not sitting on your butt doing nothing' type, and money doesn't really mean crap to me. I'm so far in debt, what's a little more. So I'd probably take the jumper. Not because he jumps but because of the two choices the personality type appeals to me more. 12. I confess that this also tends to comprise my writing style. Typically, my brain runs in a constant run-on sentance that leapfrogs from one topic to the next. I find it difficult to reel in the mental babble to type coherently. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  13. I was just waiting for PJ to dive in here That's why I started this thread, so he possesed a location to vent his grammatical and spellicular issues. But I do agree. I fail to tolerate sloppy grammar/spelling. Even though my spelling often lapses and I have an amazing tendency to invent words as needed, I do express every effort to provide a favorable literary impression. It works, I've won every creative writing contest I've entered from HS on. The best writing advice ever received emerged from an English teacher that would fail us automatically for using linking verbs (is, am, are, was, were, see, seeing, been, seem, appear, remain, stay, etc.). It made all of us more aggressive and sturdy writers, a habit that I tend to engage in today. Even in this post, nary a linking verb exists. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  16. That's great. But maybe I can make a direct contribution. I'll adopt Jagr. Can't play worth crap any more (which is why I traded him off my virtual team last season). But he's cute, and that has to count for something. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  17. Since the other thread was getting off topic, here's everybody's way to vent their grammarically challenged complaints or concerns. After all, how important is grammar, really? Or spelling. I have cruddy handwriting for the sole purpose of disguising my spelling (or lack thereof). However, I was on match.com. My husband emailed me first with a 2 sentence no grammar, lousy spelling email. I deleted him. Then I emailed him on his ad later, not knowing it was the same guy. But his lousy grammar almost cost him one hell of a babe for a wife. So, is it important or not?? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

  19. Very true. I'm fine with carrying, but don't check my brain at the door on the rare times that I do. That would be like poking the rabid raccoon with a stick just because there's a .357 shoved in the small of my back. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  20. From the article, which said they USED to live together, sounded like she was out of it but he kept harassing her. In that situation, I'd definitely have a weapon on me at all times. I don't know it would have saved her, without being in the situation, no one could know. But wouldn't it be better if she had a fighting chance instead of having to beg strangers for help and not getting it in time? To some of the other posts about self defense. I have no fear of someone breaking into my house or accosting me. I occasionally carry when hiking, not for people, but for the rabies problem that does occur. I had a rabid possum in my driveway last year, it is an issue that we have to be concerned about in more rural areas. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  21. In PA you get an almost $200 ticket and 3-4 points. At 6 points you have to take a test to have 2 knocked off your record. If it happens that you hit 6 more than once, then it's time for lots of remedial safe driving school and possible license suspension. But I don't know anything about getting speeding tickets or having 6 points....... Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  22. I'm seeing a kid in a few hours who has no insurance, her parents are total losers and won't get her any form of health care, and she has been in remedial classes for YEARS even though she has failed every eye test thrown at her and has told a lot of people that she can't see what is on the page. I just found out about it. Free exam and free glasses today. I just about cried when I heard that story from her youth group leader. Docs get into the field for the most part because we truly do care. And most of us can't stand to turn someone away who truly needs the help. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
  23. If you let most places know you are paying cash and have no insurance, they will cut you a break. Charge you for a lower code/level of visit, etc. They will still get as much for your $100 than the $260 bill to the insurance company that may pay $100 if they are lucky. 24. I would never shoot a deer or anything else unless I planned to eat what I can fresh and freeze the rest. I do fish, and I let go everything that I catch. I fish right in eyesight of three mile island. Don't need any radioactive fishies in my diet, but I do enjoy fishing occasionally. When I went deep sea fishing, we did eat what we caught and donated everything extra. I have tried everything with that damn cat. Even talking to it's owners. It kills harmless birds, baby rabbits, chipmunks and the fish in my fishpond regularly. I whack it in the ass with a pellet gun every time it is near my house. Very therapeutic for me, scares the shit out of the cat, and he is not truly hurt in the least. I don't pump enough air into the gun to penetrate skin, only sting a little. You can watch the pellet bounce off. I don't have the heart to actually kill it. No need to call me stupid for not 'outsmarting' it. I'm defending the other creatures that make my yard their home. 25. It does happen a lot. I see it every day because I'm in the field. No doc advertises all the good that they do, primarily because people do abuse it. People hear that we are giving glaucoma meds to the single mom with 6 kids and a minimum wage job, and even though they are single and making enough to make ends meet, they want the same perks. I have to admit, I'm picky about the people that I give free stuff to, I can't carry everyone, it just isn't possible (again, student loan demons), but I do my best to lend a hand when needed, even when not asked. I had a patient who needed eye patching for amblyopia. Parents couldn't afford the patches at $7 a box. Knowing these people after a few exams with the whole family, I knew they had nothing, but had good hearts. I bought a couple boxes and gave them to the kid. I told the family that I found them lying around the office and they weren't getting used, just so it wouldn't affect their ego. AND THIS ISN'T JUST ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't give examples for other docs since it isn't really appropriate, but I've seen everything from testing, exams, medications, even occsasional surgery done for those who TRULY need it. We are pretty good judges as to who just needs a payment plan and who is truly in need of free help. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
