Without the women, this thing won't be close
peregrinerose replied to Deuce's topic in Speakers Corner
I predict this thread will be hijacked by the 'is a stay at home mom a real job' debate Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda -

I'm just as new as you are, don't know squat. But on my last jump, under canopy, another new jumper was riding my ass. If I turned, he did too, in the same direction. He was far too close to me, as we are both new, for my comfort. If I can see your facial expressions, you are WAY too close to me. I ended up turning hard to lose altitude to get away from him and landing not off, but not where I wanted to either as a result. When reviewing my jump with my coach, I told him why I ended up landing where I did and I wasn't comfortable with him being so close, as it was the second time it happened. This way there is no assigning blame, I only told him that I wasn't comfortable with the closer distance. The coach was on the ground, he was watching us, he knows if I am hypersensitive to my space (I'm waaaay too new to want anyone even remotely near me, either in freefall or under canopy) or if there really was a problem and will address it as he sees fit. I trust my coaches. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Fat America..fattest nation in the world!
peregrinerose replied to bigway's topic in Speakers Corner
I am soooo sorry that my parents had the total lack of forethought to reproduce in the US thus making me a citizen. I guess I should go running off the nearest bridge since I have the nerve to continue living here despite the fact that I don't run rough shod over anything (and am against that completely), have never organized the world series, and do not refer to the term 'alien' outside of the context of that time I was abducted. No, 1200 calories is not much at all. The average person needs 2000 calories. Especially given that she says she's active in martial arts, etc. I also eat 1200 cal a day, and have so far lost 85lbs as a result, working on that last blasted stubborn 15. So, I humbly apologize for my nationality and my BMI of 24.8 as of this morning. Damn, I'm in a sarcastic mood today. Please excuse the raincloud over my head! I'm an eye doc, have been for almost 5 years. I am female and look like I'm barely 20, though I'm 30. The first comment I get is 'I wasn't expecting a girl doctor' to which I look down at my ample chest and say 'thanks, I hadn't noticed'. When asked how old I am, how long I've been doing this, etc. I giggle like a total ditz, and say 'I graduated yesterday and you are my 3rd patient!'. Getting people to laugh generally relaxes them. Once they are at ease, it's pretty obvious that I know my shit. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Well, this always worked for me. Assuming everything has been washed before (not new dark clothing like jeans, etc) toss it all in the washer on cold/cold. All squeeky clean and no hassle. Sheets and towels I do separately on hot/cold. Haven't screwed anything up yet. Except the one time I neglected to check pockets and had a pen blow up somewhere along the line. There is one person that in a heartbeat I would murder in cold blood. My number one reason I dont is that I enjoy the freedom of not being behind bars. Number 2 is that it would kill my husband to know I could actually follow through with that (he knows how I feel about this person). Number 3 is that I am not sure how I would feel about myself afterwards. Number 4 is that this person lives a miserable and petty life and it is far more cruel that she is still on the face of the planet. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I had the same issue. Was leaving the plane second though, my husband was first, it was my first jump without an instructor with me. As soon as I hit the door (and I was right on my husbands ass, no delay in me getting there) the person behind me was telling me to jump, I waited another 4. It was a minimal wind day, but I'm too new to want to be all that close to another jumper at this point. It wasn't a full load, so plenty of time for others to get out as well. The way I see it, it is my jump, that extra 4 seconds wouldn't delay others much. My husband is lucky to hit 100mph in freefall, I am closer to 120. The last thing I need is to be a new jumper and be in a freefall collision with my husband who is also fairly new (50 jumpsish). Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant the Unbeliever
peregrinerose replied to PhillyKev's topic in The Bonfire
When I was really little, my mother had Dragonriders books. I was so intregued by the pictures on the cover, I wanted to learn to read. I learned by age 4, read the Pern series when I was 8 or so. Loved them. David Eddings, Terry Brooks, Melanie Rawn, Terry Pratchett, Stephen Donaldson, RA Salvatore, and Douglas Adams are probably my favorite fantasy authors. In our den, we have built in bookcases taking up an entire wall. More than 1/2 of it is taken up with sci/fi and fantasy -
Is it possible to truly 'win' a debate? The whole point of these things is to get their points across and why they are different, and poke out the flaws in the other guy. I'm not sure that there really needs to be a winner. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I gave my best friends parents my old car, never expected anything for it, but my best friend sent me payments every once in a while, to give me the blue book value of the car. When my boyfriend of 2 months hit black ice and totalled his car by sliding underneath a tractor trailer, I cosigned a $14K loan so that he could buy his jeep. (I have good credit, he does not). So if he didn't make his payments, I'd be responsible for that $14 K. That's a LOT of trust. So I married him 3 months later, so now he has to pay it back

I'd love to do a nekkid jump at some point, once I have many more jumps behind me, of course. Never heard of one taking place at my DZ though. And I just need to make sure that none of my patients show up Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

You are kidding, right? Hell, when my husband was on his way to the Navy, he met a girl on her way to the Army in the airport, and they had a nice little fling in the bathroom before meeting their respective planes. I'm all for public sex. Bathrooms aren't my thing, but we had some fun in an empty movie theater over the weekend So I don't see that gay individuals are any more/less likely than those of us who are non gay. I don't want to stumble upon two people screwing in public regardless of genders involved. Doesn't stop me from doing it. Is that a double standard? Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I have only one stereotype and it has proven to be very true. It is basically, people are stupid. They are stupid in different ways, and I am no exception to the people are stupid rule, but they are all stupid at one time or another. In reality, I don't give a damn about stereotypes, I don't decide how I feel about a person due to their looks, etc. I treat everyone the same, with the same respect. Each person is their own little planet, so although they may be in the same solar system as a lot of other people, they shouldn't be judged that way. Oh, when my 6'9" tall cousin was asked if he played basketball (he doesn't), he'd just say 'nope. Ping pong' and at the puzzled looks would simply say 'long reach' and walk away. Always cracked me up. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

I have squat by way of experience, but of course to someone who just finished AFF, 13 jumps seems like a million (it did to me after my first one!). I don't ever give advice, nor listen to advice from anyone who isn't a coach/instructor. I do crack really lame ass jokes. If I can get someone laughing, they automatically relax and relaxing a little bit is the first step in moving forward. Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Actually it was the combination of homosexuality and abortion that did it, plus the lack of guns for self defence from the evil T-Rex who obviously committed genocide because God told him to. Or was it the meteor that God decided to play billiards with Earth with? No, none of those are it. It is because the board of directors of the no child left behind law resigned over the arguement regarding health care for the eggs. And if Kerry gets elected, the dinosaurs will all be back as clones from stem cell research and the whole mess will happen again. Right? Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda

Same-Sex Marriage Amendment Fails in House
peregrinerose replied to narcimund's topic in Speakers Corner
This is the arguement that makes the least sense to me. Whatever some guys or some women do, and whatever marriages are out there doesn't matter to me or my family. My marriage will never disintegrate regardless of how many guys decide they aren't all that interested in boobies. 50%ish of marriages end in divorce, so it seems as though marriage isn't taken all that seriously to begin with. How will gay marriage do anything to change that number? Or the number of kids in broken/divorced families? Or the amount of kids that are abused, mentally ill, uneducated or any other factor in raising a family? I'd rather see a kid grow up with two dads that love him than with a hetero abusive family. There's more to life than gender relations. My disclaimer is that I am fine with gay civil unions, legal rights, health insurance, etc. I am not fine with the term 'marriage' since that by definition is between a man and woman. I am reluctant to have that definition expanded. I'm just a bit old fashioned, I guess. Jen Do or do not, there is no try -Yoda
