  1. As others have said. It's not. In many states, the media running the advertisement can be fined for advertising an illegal product. Don't know 'bout TX tho. they do things differn't down there.
  2. Letter from Bob Don't think he'd mind that I shared.
  3. since you are unemployed (therefore pay no taxes) It's pretty damn easy to be magnanamus. Yes this is a wealthy country. HOWEVER - we can not heal everyone, no matter how mush money we spend. Untill we mandate that everyone donate, whether they want to or not, there will be a shortage of donor organs. Some people will die waiting for a transplant. Just seems plain stupid to me to give a murderer an organ that could save someone else. BTW Even in this country of FREEDOM convicted felons are deprived of certain "rights" legally. Also, free medical care is not a right in this country. In my state, we recently had a teenage girl denied a transplant since the operation was not covered under the list of benifits provided by the state. She died. ( there was a private fund set up to pay but not soon enough and no organ was available once the fund was big enough to pay ) Pity she was too sick and weak to kill someone so she could have had a better chance.
  4. It's ugly here and always rains. Never sunny. No coffee and the beer sucks. (There, that should keep them away.)
  5. Check this out. http://www.msnbc.com/news/878794.asp?0dm=C14OH E
  6. Been there - done that - got the T-shirt. In my case it went like this. Jump out of 182 at *cough* 1900 ft (I swear the alti was reading low) onto a target in a field about 5 miles from the DZ. Target not a tuffet but a bedsheet bulls eye. Land. Pack in the grass. (try not to pack hay into the rig) Blast BIG holes in paper target w/ Desert Eagle. Return to DZ. Jump more. Drink lots. Hula hoop contest w/ stripper. Video of everything.
  7. I'll bite. I would still save my son. That's my set of values. As I said, my values are different than yours are, I'm sure, but I will not deny that I have to make decisions everyday based on MY framework. I just hate the self rightous (sp) that pretend they don't have to think or decide about anything.
  8. Agreed. This was the point I was trying to make.
  9. My personal decisions are my own and every situation is different but here are a couple. Car crash involving drunk driver (person #1) and 12 year old. driver hits kid then smashes into XXX. Both are severely injured and will bleed to death if left alone. You are first on the scene and can save one of them. Do you flip a coin? I don't think so Bill and neither would I. How about two individuals (same blood type, ect.) that need a liver transplant to live. One is a surgeon that got Hepatitis working in a trauma unit, the other got the same disease from abusing IV drugs and has been in and out of rehab many times. I wouldn't flip a coin here either. I don't think most people would. Human nature being what it is, we also etnd to help those we are most comfortable with (family, friends, same cultural ID) first. Take situation 1 above with your son, your neighbors son and the drunk. All will die but one. Who do you save? I will save MY son. I will cry about the others later. \ Edit to add... Specific to this situation. I think the transplant should go to the person most likely to live as a result of the operation. I won't pass judgement on the first transplant (the wrong organs) but giving a girl that was already very likely to die even with a transplant a set of organs that very likely could have saved that life of another is wrong in my eyes. sometimes you have to triage.
  10. That is total bullshit. I am not god, nor do I want to play one but to deny that some people are more worthy of care is just plain dumb. It is also not relevant in this case. Nationality doesn't really enter into this equation but some people don't want to make those choices and shouldn't, some do want to make those decisions and shouldn't and some want to make those decisions and SHOULD. The difficulty is knowing the difference. This dificulty DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE DECISION SHOULD NOT BE MADE. Flipping a coin, leaving the decision to god or otherwise avoiding the painfull decision to make a chioce is a COP OUT. However I know I wont change your mind so I will offer this. At least apply the same level of decision making to the rest of your life - flip a coin when you Vote, that way you will be right at least 50% of the time.
  11. Ok so we are a bit nuts up here, that's a given. This weekend 3 of our gang jumped out for a CReW jump. The temp at alt. was about 0 degF. At least all those layers are good for preventing line burn. E

  13. Hmmm...ever use a VISA card? Buy now - pay later. Let the next guy worry about it.
  14. Hey, another skydiving safety consultant. I'm currently working high-tech (semi-conductor fab) and have fun with it. I try to show pictures of skydivign during safety training classes and explain that even things that seem "risky" can be done safely IF people have the proper training, equipment and use good judgement. Usually gets recieved pretty good, but I do get same pretty blank stares. E
  15. It's really not a matter of inspection quality, it's a rigger's quality of life issue. Fewer repacks=less $$ at the same price. Raise the price and they can still afford to eat. (barely) I would be willing to pay more just for the reduction in hassle. E
  16. There is a DZ in the Seattle area that is having problems with their neighbors. There is a lot of bad blood here and from what I know there is a group actively trying to shut down the DZ. I wonder if this is their idea.... I will have to watch. Too bad the whole story will not be told.
  17. Embarrising and really cool... 8-way speed star, me diving. Came in hot and high on the 6 way round that had built. Went over the top of the base and hit the burble and dropped like a rock right throught he center of the formation. (I knew when I hit the burble I wasn't going anywhere but down so I went basically head down and got small to miss everyone) Kinda like a hula hoop jump with everyone else as the hoop. Felt a bit embarrased about the F-up and guilty cuz I enjoyed it so much.
  18. Havign a cypress fire a parachute that was attached to my head would be a BAD thing. OUCH!
  19. Thanks Bill, I currently do not use a RSL but this looks interesting. How about a close-up of the system? How does the cam thing release the RSL if there is no (main) conopy out when the reserve is fired? E
  20. What it says... Note paragraph 2. Seems to be quiet a bit of wiggle room here. E
  21. Have a pocket sewn onto your jumpsuit for your inhaler. Even if you don't have issues in freefall or under canopy, what if you land out (in a field of something that triggers an attack?) Better to be prepared.
  22. Pay $200 cash, get $225 credit. www.skydivetoledo.com
  23. FATASS. That's the best thing I've heard all day
