  1. Thanks, It is really frustrating to get what you think is some really great stuff and the find out all you have is some digitally garbled junk. Any hope of recovering the video?
  2. I use a JVC miniDV (DVM 50) camera that has started to do some funny stuff - somebody help me out please. The camera seems to work properly and then when the video is played back it is all F*d up. It looks like the image is divided into several (5 or 6) horizontal "bands" that are all playing at slightly different frame rates. It really looks bizzare. If I pop out the tape, and insert a different tape it will record properly. If I put the F*d up tape back in, sometimes it does OK, sometimes not. Has anyone else seen this? Is it the tapes or my camera?
  3. Looks great to me. Thanks for all your hard work... E
  4. Not quite, but definately feet 1st freefall. I didn't slow down much but a fully deployed PC does provide quiet a bit of drag. I also had line stretch up to the 1st locking stow so there was "bag drag" too. E
  5. OK, I know there must be SOME skydiving geek out there that has written a good logbook program for PALM OS, so why can't I find one? E
  6. I agree - It depends. I had a bag lock about 60 jumps ago and the pilot chute was completely deployed and it did stand me up. FYI, I am 210 out the door and use a 21" ZP PC
  7. OK Here goes… Last night I dreamed of skydiving (not unusual since the weather here is crappy this time of year and my brain tries to get it’s fix while I’m asleep since I can’t jump while I’m awake) Anyway, after a great jump I turn, track and reach back to pull. Except I can’t move my arm, like it’s totally useless. I try again, but no luck, I think oh well I was almost due for a repack anyway and pop the reserve. No big deal. Now the dirt is getting close and I start thinking, “How in the Hell do I land this thing with one arm?” In my dream I grab both toggles in my left hand and try to flare using my one good arm. In my dream it worked great but I don’t think I want to try it for real. So the question is - you lose the use of one arm but are otherwise OK. What’s the best way to try to land? No flare at all and PLF or try for a two-toggle, one hand flare and try to PLF? Just curious. BTW, I woke up to discover I had rolled over on my right arm and it had gone to sleep.
  8. There didn't appear to be but it's hard to tell. My d-bag was maybe a little tighter than normal when I packed it. When I looked up at the mal it was just a spinning black bag. On the ground it there were no knots in the lines, just twisted up, and the stows came out when pulled. My pilot chute was open enough to pull me vertical so I was just curious. I will probably keep using them but I hate to contribute to my rigger's liquer cabinet too heavily (at least he shares!)
  9. I have been using Aerodyne research Superbandz® (http://www.aerodyneusa.com/superbandz.html ) for my packing stows on my main for about 60 jumps. Last weekend I had a difficult to explain bag lock malfunction. The pilot chute was cocked and fully opened and once the chopped main (and me) were on the ground, we looked it over (the DZO/rigger and I) and could not determine what caused the bag lock. I am not trying to say that I didn’t pack this surprise for myself but there were a couple of questions. These bands are made of stiffer rubber that the “usual” rubber packing stows. While they worked great all summer, this was the first jump I have made where the weather was cold. Does anyone else have any experience using these in the cold? Is it even an issue?
  10. I would recommend you get a good hard sided case and pack your baby carefully. Buy the extra baggage insurance when you check the bag. It's not too much $$ and I think the handlers are more careful of the bags that are tagged as insured. BTW I don't think the airlines will insure anything packed in a cardboard box. The last time I flew with something in a box they made me sign a waiver that allowed them to destroy the contents with impunity.
  11. I voted yes cuz I thought it would be cool to have a supply of BASE equip in most buildings over 40 stories. Yep, selfish thrill seeking motivation, not self preservation. I just think it would be way cool to see the number of bandit BASEr's (Scuse me but could you open the window, it's a little stuffy in here. WHAAHOO!!)
  12. I can see it now... Yep, I saw this mean infestation of bugs and so I had Bubba apply a bunch o' belly fliers on my feild to squash 'em.
  13. Let the FAA know what you think. Please be rational and polite but make our case. 9-awa-security@faa.gov
  14. Everything is really slow today. Makes me think maybe "someone" is intercepting web traffic and looking.
  15. How cool would it have to be? ... Get realistic. There is no such thing as absolute safety or security. The ATC system was already headed for a meltdown before this only keeping track of the big boys. If we have to wait for them to establish the capacity to track every plane in the air we will never fly. And what does this accomplish anyway? Nothing. You could still fly a plane into most any target (killing yourself of course) with very little real risk of being shot down first. By the time ATC notices a blip off course, checks to see if they are really off course, scrambles a F-16, and intercepts, you could easily hit any number of civilian targets. We need to continue to fight for our rights as Free Americans, including the ability to travel freely. What's next, havign to file a travel plan with the state police before getting in your car to go to the mall? You can not eliminate the risk posed by suicidal terrorists without eliminating the terrorists. BTW: If skydiving is banned in the states I'm moving to Canada, the beers cold there too.
  16. Just wanted to resurect this thread following the recent notice from Icarus
  17. I work hard at not being racist. ( I say that because it is human nature to distrust those who are not like us) However in this case it seems that we do have some very messy work to be done. If Bin L. is responsible (very likely) he need to be killed. Period. To hell with pissing anybody off. They already don't like us and this will make no difference. Anyone that stands between US and Bin L should also be taken out. The Taliban has proven that it is a extremist regime capable of causing trouble on the world stage. Take them out too. Yes this will piss off some extremists. So be it. Refer to the statement above, they are already pissed. We send a message to all that we will not stand by and let ourselves be threatened and just do nothing. When you are dealing with extremists you must use extreme actions. My $0.02
  18. I would recommend a Pelican case. Expensive and heavy but damn near indestructible. I use one for my SCUBA and camera gear. I just wish they wern't so damn expensive ($200)
  19. Also, rounds are much less likely to tangle and collapse in the event of a canopy collision (very likely if you put 50 SL squares out in 20 seconds)
  20. ... a Safety Coordinator for a chemical manufacturing plant. We turn Natural gas and air into H2O2. Pretty damn boring but only 30 minutes from the DZ and I can always sneak out early on Fridays cuz the boss does too. Love living in the NW. Best place in the US (just don't tell anyone - we prefer they all just stay home!!) Come visit at www.skydivetoledo.com
  21. Go deep, go often. Love to dive. If it's raining (which is often up here) at least I can have fun getting wet. Favorite place - BELIZE.
  22. OK you guys. Here it is. Be there or we're gonna make fun of you. That's right, Friday May 25th. at noon time we will be launching The Summer of 2001 at Skydive Toledo. It's also the beginning of the Memorial Day Weekend. The entire 4 day weekend we are offering $15.00 to 12,000 ft. out of Steve Sell's Super Beech 18. That's right, 12 jumpers, 14 minutes to altitude, and $15.00. I can't think of a better way to start off the summer. On Saturday and Sunday we are going to be doing 4 way scrambles and a Speed Star competition. Also there will be Saturday night Night Jumps for anyone who is qualified. Don't forget the bonfire on Saturday night, with all the regular foolishness. Bring your tent, kids, gear, packing mat, wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend, food , and Beer (to be consumed after the jumping is over) and camp all weekend. See ya there, www.skydivetoledo.com
