This seems to work well for NEWISH gear. What about a formula for older stuff (by that formula you have a 0 value after about 7-8 years and there's still good value on (some) older stuff that is in good shape. Where does this formula give out? Seems to work untill the gear reaches about 50% of original then the formula changes to ?????

How about this??? http://www.oregonlive.com/metro/oregonian/index.ssf?/base/news/1049374817290280.xml And the last time that my car was broken into in Portland, they couldn't even spare the time to fill out a police report for my insurance company. I wonder how many tickets they gave out for honking at all the people waving signs during the last elections?? (answer - none)

Wrong and wrong. I lived in Corpus Christi and Houston (yea I know Houston isn't really Texas) I agree that Shiner is the best beer in Tx. Here's a few local products http://www.rogue.com/brews.html Oregon might be wet most of the year but we do know Beer! On the second point (the Yankee thing) I grew up in North Carolina, definately NOT a yankee, and the folks out here couldn't even find New York/Jersey/England on a map. Iff'n your ever up here I'd love to buy you a beer and we can argue about Tx, Yankees and Skydiving as long as you like

Tequila: Try Milagro Anejo, 2 jump tix per bottle and damn well worth it. Hard to find it up here but you are closer to the source. (and BTW, Texas has no REAL beer) Flame on...

Hmm... I think we are already there. How do you think a child from Congo compares to Bill Gates. What's the difference?

OK so this should be good party talk. "Hey - wanna live longer..." http://www.betterhumans.com/Features/Columns/Guests/column.aspx?articleID=2003-02-09-5

Generally agree, unless we got over our fear of genetic engineering. Some without the taboo's of our current society will try to make "better" humans. Some may succeed. Too early to tell but I'm guessing the trend of not messing with human DNA is a relatively short lived trend. An example here :www.betterhumans.com Note - this is not an endorsement, just a prediction. ETR

Is this supposed to make us safe (or just make us feel safe? http://www.cnn.com/2003/TRAVEL/03/31/airports.missile.security/index.html By published reports a Stinger SAM has a range of about 3 miles out and 1 mile up. SO... Do you think they will bulldoze all the business parks within a couple of miles of every airport? Seems another case of - better to do something worthless and annoying than to do nothing at all.

Been there - done that. Got the T-shirt and video. (Thanks Whitney) The first night of the boogie ended with a Matini making contest/obstacle course. http://www.eugeneskydivers.com/photogallery/pages/hoopjump.html This isn't me but I'm pretty sure it was taken at the boogie during the hoop dive competition. Good for her. Well, maybe...but the .357 didn't do so bad either. Me, I think I would trust the .357, let god look out for the bastard I shoot with it if he chooses. E

Not skydiving related but I've been living on bonus days for 20 years. I have known the concept ever since I was struck by and run over by a tractor-trailer on a bicycle. After watching the rig roll over my legs I knew I was dead, and I was OK with it. Never really worried about death since then. Thanks to some great Docs and the luck of having this happen within 1/4 mile of a hospital, I've been able to enjoy my own Bonus Days. We should all live like every day is a bonus, because they really are, even if you don't realize it yet. Skydivers seem to be more aware if this than most. ETR

Me too!! Not often enough tho. (weather sucks) The way I figure it the higher you are when you hurl yourself at the ground, the more time you have to miss it, right? -
http://keysnews.com/320077086672222.bsp.htm Bet it would make a nice jump ship.

Another thing to consider. You will have a lower total blood volume. If you drink, your Blood Alcohol Content will be higher after you have donated. Be carefull, don't overdo it.

Not a rigger but the rated strength of links used is greatly less than the actual breaking strength. A safety factor is built into the strength rating for rigging components. For example, Component Design factor Nylon fibre rope sling 9 Polyester rope sling 9 Polypropylene rope sling 9 Alloy steel chain sling 4 Wire rope sling 5 Metal mesh sling 5 Synthetic web sling 5 Chain fittings 5 Wire rope sling fittings 5 Other fittings as specified by manufacturer Nonrotating wire rope as specified by manufacturer but not less than 5 Conventional wire rope 5 Exceeding the rated loading eats into the safety factor and is not recommended. French links fall under "chain fittings and have a design factor of 5 (a 400 lb rated link is designed for 2000 lbs) Somebody catch me if this does not apply to TSO equipment

Having had the chance to jump and talk with Bob I feel very lucky. You won't even have to buy beer, just hold still and listen. He's certainly one of a kind and just keeps giving to the sport. I jumped with him for the first time when I had about 40 jumps or so, didn't have a clue who he was till we were sitting around afterwards talking about the jump. Still didn't really hit home till someone else told me who he was. Good thing for me he likes my home DZ (Toledo, WA) and will usually drop by for a few jumps a year during the summer on his "tour".
