  1. Why would you want to prevent suicides? as soon as suicidals knew the bridge would not kill them, they would do it somewhere else. this idea of water "modulation" to decrease density is possible, but not any where close to being worth it. -SPACE-
  2. sure, it could be done, but one thing you are forgetting is water, even when dissipated through a "bubbler" carries a lot of inertia. freefall through rain can hurt, heavy rain is super painful. now hitting something at high speed that is half water half air? not something that could be repeated with any safety or desired repeats. A device could be made to shut off "bubbler" immediately after impact, the jumper could wear flotation, and float to surface. I would guess with the amount of air you would have to pump under water the best increase in safe freefall hight would be about 100%, (meaning you could jump from maybe 200') and the bubbler device would cost a few hundred thousand USD$. just learn to skydive. You would kill yourself BASE jumping. at least in skydiving you are not alone and there are enough assholes to, um, kill your dreams and keep you alive.
  3. YES. it is a sad truth but there is no way around this. Not all people are born equal. not all people follow the path that would eventually make them equal. DNA is meshed, choices are made. I have had extensive arguments with my girlfriend on this one. a burden on society and a productive member of it? are you kidding? All life has worth, of course, but to deny that some human life has more worth than some other human life is un-imaginably hypocritical. these things are probably the most controversial of all subjects, and no consensus can ever be reached. Things like potential value and current value come into play and effect each other to the point of confusion. to have a conversation like this there has to be an agreed upon situation. all factors change the values of others. Does the loss of a child, even one two years old, outweigh the life of a 20 year old? what if either is developmentally disabled? what if the 20 year old is an early college graduate? what if the two year old is the daughter of the queen? how does that change it? what if the child is female or male? what would that change if there was a post apocalyptic human race survival situation? these questions are epic. no one can answer them.
  4. yeah, as said earlier, mad props to the sailplane pilots. I have about 20 hours in a Blanik. bad ass gliders. anyone can do the skydiver part, but those sailplane pilots, damn. good on em' -SPACE-

    cloud?

I am not 100% on this being the case here, but I have seen similar things happen when large aircraft ascend or descend through thin cloud layers. the wake (burble in skydiver jargon) causes this layer to become non-uniform, makeing this part not have cloud until the layer stabilizes. similar to a large rock being thrown into a pond with a thin layer of ice on it. the ice breaks, leaves a obvious hole, but when it all calms down it re-freezes (conditions permitting) -SPACE-
  7. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNwTzhpNqws terrifying.
  8. ABSOLUTELY NOT A RACIAL REMARK. This was a statement regarding the extremist group "revolution muslim" and terrorist groups similar. I mean no offense to the Muslim religion and community.
  9. It is terrifying, right? that words typed by extremist muslims can have so much affect on the right to free speech?
  10. I have not, I would love to though. This I got from Wikipedia, from an earlier episode.
  11. Because fuck you, Abdullah. -SPACE-
  12. Out of fear of terrorist attack from a 'warning' (not even a threat) on an online site. . On american soil. You don't find that fucked up?
  13. Of course, I saw it. "aired in it's entirety' would mean without the boxes and bleeps.
  14. I am most curious about the harness and cutaway setups, if anything special was done for it other than a second harness under skydive harness? (or simply in standard harness/container with intention of landing)
  15. I do not think people understand how big of a deal this is. This is the biggest hit censorship had against free speech in a LONG time. This sets a precedent for future censorship of every other show on TV. This is terrorist negotiation at it's worst. If south park 201 is not shown, in it's entirety, by Comedy Central they might as well cancel the series. It will be better in the long run for not just censorship and freedom of speech laws, but the safety of anyone that exercises their right to free speech within non violent terms.
  16. Agreed. I am glad this was the first response. I am looking for info for a non-skydiving related project. It goes without saying deploying small canopies like this is incredibly dangerous.
  17. Who is still doing this? It would be nice to PM/talk with any of the regulars or authorities on the subject. PM me. -SPACE-
  18. I personally prefer pale skinned females. that are not addicted to the kind. or alcohol. or meth.
  19. Oh, the BBC article is a commentary on the failure of most people to appreciate distance and time. I know it is not about the industry, I just thought it had a good metephorical intro about "back in the day of airplanes". Just showing how much life would be different without metal monsters.
  20. I just get annoyed when every muppet out there complains about flying airlines. as if they are entitled to anything. As if it was easy to get a million people going close to the speed of sound to twenty thousand different places worldwide. The airlines are not perfect, but they do better than you can do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r1CZTLk-Gk -SPACE-
