What the Warsaw Ghetto demonstrated, much to the contrary of your rather ignorant take on it, is that if a HANDFUL of guns could seriously mess with the occupiers' safety from being killed by their captives, imagine if HUNDREDS, or THOUSANDS of those Jews had had access to guns. You're pointing out that they failed, eventually, to overcome their oppressors. But that is precisely because they were not able to get enough people armed and fighting soon enough. They were known to have used some measly, found-somewhere guns to kill Nazi guards and capture better guns; but there were far more captive Jews than there were guns, or Jews willing to use them. That's why they failed. Imagine a prison in your country or mine, and of 10,000 inmates, 16 have guns and want to take over and escape. And there are hundreds of guards. Easy enough to put the inmate uprising down (especially if you're willing to gas the inmates as a whole population). Not so easy to kill them all if half, or three-quarters of those 10,000 inmates had guns. So would you say that guns are proved useless because 16 out of 10,000 prison inmates can't overcome hundreds of guards and free 10,000 inmates, neglecting to consider what would probably happen if 6,500 of those inmates had guns and the will to use them? ... "Red necks"? Are you aware that your usage of that term is bigoted? It's like saying, "For a while, the niggers were rampaging in Los Angeles after the Rodney King cop trial acquitted his abusers." But it's a slur against white people of European descent; I guess it's alright. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

One can be "confident" that his government will not become tyrannical. But one must never let his guard down, because it remains ever possible. It may be sooner or it may be later, but it is always possible as an eventuality. So you can't give up the means you would use to overthrow it, or else once it happens, it's permanent. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

We asked celebrities to finish this sentence: "I think handguns are...": Halle Berry said, "...a big problem in America." Natalie Portman said, "...too easily available." ... O.J. Simpson said, "...Not 'murdery' enough.' " - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Mention of Muttley and Dastardly reminded me of the cartoons I used to watch as a kid. Some of them were early morning ones, and some were around dinnertime. - Ricochet Rabbit and Droopalong ("Bing, bing, BIIING!... Ricocheeeeet Rabbit!") - Deputy Dawg - Hector Heathcoate (it was set in colonial times, and Hector was a screwup) - Wacky Racers (a lot like "Stop the Pigeon," but with cars.) - Droopy (was kind of linked with the Woody Woodpecker series somehow) Please post names and descriptions of ollllld cartoons that you remember from your childhood, and about when it was that you were watching them. -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Honestly, I was simply aware of it, and it felt a bit sensitive/sore, but really not significantly. I was cautious about it in the shower, but it really barely stung at all, and was not painful when I cleaned it. The place where I had it done recommended BACTINE for it, because alcohol and hydrogen peroxide supposedly actually kill the cells that are supposed to be healing around it. You know, Bactine contains an analgesic called Lidocaine HCl. That may explain why it didn't hurt me so much. The label says "antiseptic and pain reliever." But even the same night, when I was going to Walmart to get the recommended Bactine, it really wasn't bothering me. Can't say if I just have a high pain tolerance or something else. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I got my left one done on June 19, 2005. My girlfriend has both of hers done, and we wanted me to have it, too. She drove me to the place (storefront piercing/tattoo store) just in case I was all in pain afterward. I wasn't really worried. She kept asking me if I was nervous or scared and stuff, and I said I wasn't, but I was preoccupied with, "How AM I going to react?" I resolved to show NO reaction to whatever pain it caused, and that's exactly what happened. I simply kept a stoic face, did not wince, grimace, exclaim, yell, scream, cry, or anything. I just watched him do it and kept silent and motionless. It was a pretty weird sensation/experience. I like having it done. It's something to, well, fiddle with. I would NOT say that it creates some sort of additional sensation/sensitivity. Apart from psychological, I find no increase in erogenous feelings as a result of it. It's fun to have, though. I think it looks pretty cool. So, go for it! Report back how it felt, okay? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Holy crap, yes I do. I used to LOVE that show! I thought it was called, "Stop That Pigeon!" though. In each episode, they had these bizarre-contraption airplanes with different deviced mounted on them to try to capture a messenger pigeon. Hi-larious stuff! Okay, here comes a new thread, "Remember these cartoons?"... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Then what you are saying is that as much as British people like to attempt to escape criticism of their system by Americans, who lord over them that they still have a monarchy, by saying, "Well, the monarchy is just a figurehead," the monarchy actually DOES rule, and DOES exert political power over the laws that govern the people. Thanks for clearing that up. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

What is the purpose of a condemned's "Final Statement?"

Certainly that provided a lot of solice to both his family and the family of the victims I dunno, is it even an insult to call someone a "Hoosier"? I don't know what the fuck a Hoosier even is!... You could call me one all you want! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!" -
For someone who supposedly is an academic -- particularly an engineer -- you sure don't exhibit the ability to tailor your analogies in such a way as to make them accurate or relevant, or even congruent to the issue you are (ostensibly) using them to clarify. For example, your ballgame analogy is absurd on its face. A human life is quite different from a ballgame. If a son or daughter of the discriminated-against black man (who was "playing the game" during the institutionalized racism period) were forced to take also take up the game down 100 points, you'd have a valid point. But each new person NOW, in the era of the CRIMINALIZATION of institutionalized racism, has a fresh start. They don't start out "down 100 points" in the search for a job, because it is illegal to use their race to deny them one. It is illegal to use their race to deny them a loan, or housing, or health care. HOW is it, again, that once the NEW GAME begins and they are NOT down 100 points are they still affected by the fact that their ANCESTORS were down 100 points when THEIR game was given new officials? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Interesting, do you say that to everyone of that age or younger regardless of race? Well, I'd be interested to know how many of the angry young white folks writing here have ever been made to sit at the back of a bus, refused admission to a restaurant or movie theater, or have been lynched based solely on their race. Having to deal with an entertainment channel targetted at one race seems a minor inconvenience by comparison, but it sure generates a lot of anger. How about "made to feel targeted, intimidated and threatened because he was the only white guy in an area that is 'black'"? You think blacks can't treat whites badly when they are in their element and feel they have the upper hand? And when they do, do you believe that is not racist/bigoted? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
-
You really think race-based media has this effect? What makes you say/think that? It certainly does legitimize the notion of blacks "staying black." (As in, "Stay black, m'man!") Identifying ONESELF as "black" instead of just "human" serves no noble, useful purpose, as far as I see it. The only result is a continued division and refusal to relate with other races. If white people refused to associate with blacks the way blacks often refuse to associate with whites (socially), we'd be called bigoted. I am not the first, by any means, to point out that racist and bigoted behavior is quite often forgiven when blacks do it, but condemned when whites do it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

I need to see something that proves that this oxygen effect is significant, or even real to begin with. It seems pretty improbably that, if this phenomenon exists, that it would contribute greatly to one's weight. If only we could make the food have a "HELIUM effect"! Then, the more you ate, the LIGHTER you would become!! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Should companies be required to help the world?

How about Penelope Cruz, in "Vanilla Sky": "I'll tell you in another life -- when we are both cats..." -
A quick search just as John suggested ("gun control genocide") yielded this: In other words, if a genocide occurred in a country which, prior to the genocide, had strict prohibitions or controls on gun ownership, it is quite reasonable to correlate the ease with which government forces rounded up and massacred unarmed people with the fact that they were unarmed and unable to mount any significant resistance against their murderers. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Maybe "blue barrel" came from gun bluing. Before GLOCK came along with Tenifer coating (and all the other modern coatings that have arrived), gun rifles and slides were often "blued." Dunno. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Any time henceforth when someone offers, as a slam against me, that I spend too much time thinking about trivial crap, or too much time criticizing meaningless minutiae, I am gonna link that person to this fuckin' post! Seriously, how long did you waste doing the markup for this thing? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

My dictionary here says that "Ga" and "GA" are acceptable abbreviations for "Georgia," but I think it is conventional for abbreviations to give a capital letter to each word abbreviated. Thus "Ga" should not be mistaken for "Gamblers Anonymous," "General Aviation," etc. Now, what I want to know is, how did we ever get "Lb." for "pound"?! Or "Bbl" for "barrel"? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"

Hypocrisy at its best, GUNS and Liberals

"... where everyone owns a gun..." That's not correct. Every guy who ever was in the army has to keep his weapons. Just in case of, just to be prepared......Most of them really dislike it. The majority of private persons is not interested in owning any guns. Swiss folks are peace-loving. -
