  1. Very. That is one of the things I don't like about Denmark. LMFAO! If we made it as hard to emigrate to the U.S., two things would happen: - the U.S. would probably be as safe to walk down the streets through at night as you say Denmark is. (Homogenous populations usually are very safe and crime-free.) - the rest of the world would bitch and curse us and say we were arrogant, selfish assholes for not letting anyone who wants to come here to live and work. As things stand, we have relaxed immigration policies, relaxed enforcement of those policies we do have, and when the worst of the worst come to live here and drag our society down, we get criticized for having a crime problem. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 2. +1 Right on. The only way to be sure they don't abuse it is to see to it that they never get the chance. Given the chance, it will be abused... Probably right from the outset; but if not, then before too long. No flippin' way is the government ever going to be implanting anything in me with my consent; and if they try it without my consent, it'll probably cost them some personnel. My objection has nothing at all to do with "number of the beast" nonsense. It has everything to do with protecting myself from suffering further abuse by government, which is made up of people -- and the people who gravitate toward positions in government are the ones who thrill to exert power over how others live. (Exactly the wrong people who should run the world's machinery.) - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  3. Given that they are riddled with corruption and are virtually guaranteed to abuse your information, uh, yeah. Is that a reason to let them keep on doing it? Probably not. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  4. I think you need to realize that there are only a few things in this world you control, and the actions of another person are NOT one of those things. You can, however, control how you feel and act about something - and disgracing a dead man and his family after the news of his untimely demise speaks volumes about your character. Jen I did not disgrace a dead man. I simply made comments about his brother, who I think is a jackass. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  5. Ugh, wow, I hope this isn't about a situation you are stuck in. I would really like to think that my morals can't be bought. I guess that for me to be honest, I'd have to say that it would depend on how grave the situation was and how much money was offered. If someone offered me a million dollars to not tell the cops that they'd driven drunk, hit a couple of parking meters and drove off, I'd be like, "Ho-kay!"
  6. How large is Copenhagen, again? How many millions of people live in its most urban area? How does its population compare to that of the U.S.? This comparison is absurd. In most of the places I have ever lived, I did not need a gun, either. I also did not end up needing a smoke alarm, or a fire extinguisher. That doesn't mean I don't see utility in having them available if they should be necessary. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  7. The guy who played "Potsie" on "Happy Days"?! ...Oh, wait, that was Anson Williams. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  8. Uh, okay, way to totally misrepresent anything remotely resembling facts. SOME school boards have refused to allow certain books to be assigned, true. I have read about that. But you palm this bullshit off as though all of those books simply cannot be found at any U.S. school. I happen to know, for a fact, that this is untrue. You might dredge up horribly ignorant -- and isolated -- examples of ultra-conservative school boards that make asinine decisions to bar certain books from the curriculum, but at least several of the books you assert are "banned from U.S. schools" were assigned reading in the schools I went to while growing up. All assigned reading in various classes I took. I read and did book reports on these in elementary school. Oh, I also did The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton in fifth grade. I'm sure that's on a list of yours somewhere. John Bellairs is AWESOME! I did a report on his The House with a Clock in its Walls in fifth grade, too. Far better wizardry book than the drivel they fill pages with in the Harry Pooper series... LMFAO! Ahh, gay lifestyle indoctrination! The idea that these would be in schools makes me laugh. If people want to learn about such alternative lifestyles as "two mommies" or "why is daddy sticking that into another daddy?" I really think those subjects should be handled at home. My god, do you really believe your own ridiculous hyperbole? Just because the school won't allow passages from the BIBLE to be read, that means there is prohibition on freedom of thought, and on religious expression?! Hoookay... - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  9. Subaru already rules the rally championships. (Only occasionally does anyone else put up a fight -- and companies like Mitsubishi struggle just to come up with lame knock-offs of the Impreza WRX.) I would not be surprised if you are soon proved right. BTW, I like "Fix Or Repair Daily" more than "Found Off Road, Dead." - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... 10. race? Just a crazy thought I had, that maybe race also should not be a deciding factor in who to hire, who to fire, etc. Qualifications alone should do it, when cuts are needed. But race is used to fill quotas and to determine who gets, or keeps, positions. At the insistence of the government. The government that claims this is to be "fair." - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  11. It was a spelling mistake. You want the correction? Here it is. Exorbitant. Are you happy? Do I get my smiling grade, now? Shit, here's a GOLD STAR for you! "*" (Get up real close to the screen and squint --- I swear it's solid gold!) Just fuckin' with you, Ted. Chill! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  12. To some people, financial prosperity is not as important when considering how "well"- or "worse"-off their living conditions are. I'd rather be a little poor, and FREE, than financial prosperous and under the thumb of an oppressive government -- forbidden from owning, doing, thinking, or reading a great many things... I could be living in some arab state, sitting on millions (or billions?) of oil wealth, but unable to get a copy of many classic books without being an outlaw. Would my wealth be worth it? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  13. I figured that you were saying you were not surprised that it was NOT written by an Australian, but by a fellow American. What do I win? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  14. Hahahahaha! Nice. You seem to feel that it's better to live in a state of being under the total control and scrutiny of the government at all times -- you know, for your safety. Which is the attitude of the loser? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  15. That's funny. I thought they were willing to do "nasty" things because they want to enforce their way of living on any who are "unbelievers" in islam. They'd be "surviving" just fine if they had not attacked, and incurred our wrath and our desire to destroy them in order to shield ourselves from being attacked unprovoked again. They stirred up the hornets nest, and now they're upset that the hornets are stinging them?! "Survival" for them would have been guaranteed if they'd just left...us...the fuck...alone. Or were we waging war on the Taliban before they were engaging in terrorist acts against our interests and our people? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  16. Still don't get why it matters. Are you mad that some people who see and/or listen to Sean Penn's actions in Iraq and in New Orleans won't be able to distinguish between his attempts for publicity, etc. and the reality of the situations? That is EXACTLY what the problem is, yes. Oh, you might add Rosie O'Donnell to the list of celebrity shit-brains to whom far too many millionsof voters turn for their daily dose of what-to-think. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  17. Because unfortunately, we have idiots in the population who will make voting decisions based on what these moron elitists say, and those voting decisions can easily have an impact on how I get to live MY life, and the laws under which I'm forced to live. (For example, they lie about guns and gun crime, they call for idiotic, do-nothing bans, they oppose licensed concealed carry, and then they get legions of knownothings to vote for reps who support such laws.) - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  18. I know. It's a recipe for disaster, and unlikableness. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  19. Are you talking about L.E.D. technology? I greatly prefer it. Less orange color to the light, more natural white, and yes, far less energy consumption, in addition to shock-proofness and long life. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  20. How dare you?! I'm outta here! - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  21. I thought it more likely that he was trying to dig at us Americans whose Supreme Court is under lockdown and constant guard, and our government is not accessible to us. Otherwise, why not post about a fine night out in Bonfire? Original Poster: how about some clarification, please? - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  22. Um, "heir to the throne"? I wouldn't want to live in a place where there IS a "royalty"-- regardless of whether there are no guards in front of the Supreme Court. I imagine that any country that has "thrones" and "heirs" and "royalty" really can't make much claim to being "egalitarian" where it comes to all the citizens being equal, having claim to equal rights, etc. Where are you talking about, anyway? Is that a point of pride? If it is, I don't get it. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  23. Okay, good points in your post. I would say that this all points to the relative powerlessness of the "little guy consumer" to do much if anything about it. We don't control where corporations have their goods made. They present the consumer goods to us, and hey, if China is where they're made, China is where they're made. If you don't like it, it's really hard to find the same products made in the U.S. or some non-atrocity-engaging country. It really strikes me as a "what can ya do?" situation. But there is a difference I see between buying goods made in the nasty country, and actually agreeing to DO one of the things that we think is nasty about that country (censor reading material). - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
  24. I've said enough about arab culture on this board that I think it's probably pretty clear how I feel. If you were trying to remind me that arab culture / islamic religion are anathema to human expression and liberty, well, nice job. I am well-reminded. - -Jeffrey "With tha thoughts of a militant mind... Hard line, hard line after hard line!"
