I'm very sorry to hear the bad news. I dred the day when my grandpa passes, hopefully not for a long time though. Try to remember the things you did together and what he said. It's been years since my Great Grandma and other Grandpa died but I still remember alot of the things they did and the time we spent together. As for the funeral. I know what you meen. Our family always has big funerals with open caskets, the works. I guess it's just how we are. It has however made me feel strange going to a funeral when the guest of honnor is not there.

17 diesel vechicles running on vegetable oil...
jumpinfarmer replied to smiles's topic in The Bonfire
Most bio-diesel sold in the US is a 2% blend of soybean oil and diesel fuel. A 50/50 mix would burn cleaner and have lower emisions. -
My Grandpa always said horses eat money and shit work.

The subsities are no longer tied to production. No one is paid to not grow a crop anymore unless it's on land that should have never been worked. -

The subsities are now tied mostly to the prices of certian commodities. So if you increase the price of the commodity then there is no subsity payment. This year there will be very small farm payments because of the highest corn soybean and wheat prices in almost 10 years. This is partialy caused by the fact that ethanol production used over 10% of last years record 10.4 billion bushel corn crop. -

Bio diesel actualy gives off more btu's per gallon than regular diesel. it also solves the low sulfer emisions rule without any modifications to curant engines. As for production. If there is a market then production of crops will increase. The only reason we don't grow more now is because there is little incentive at the prices we have had for the last few years. Also the byprobucts of bio-diesel and ethanol production are used as livestock feed. They realy don't use much of the supply, they just increase the value of it. -
I've never been on a horse. Which is sort of strange since my aunts, uncles, and cousins have always been very involved with horses. I have driven some teams before percherons and belgins my great uncle had the belgins as a pulling team for horse pulls. The percherons belong to a friend who still does some farm work with them.

Go bio-diesel and ethanol! The more you use the more my corn and soybeans are worth, result, more money for me to jump. Bio-diesel is actualy a better fuel than regular diesel. It has more power and better lubricating properties and burns much cleaner. I could go on and on about all the benifits of renewable energy but I don't want to bore anyone. -
If money was no object what would you do with 1 million dollars?
jumpinfarmer replied to Kiki's topic in The Bonfire
I'd go for that too. -
Is there a dz.commer you would most like to meet in person?

I'd buy the farms on either side of mine, one has an airstrip. Build a house of my own, know more living in the back of my folks. Paying off my debts goes without saying. Buy a powered parachute. Update my machinery so I could spend more time jumping and less time farming in the summer. -

Well not much excitment here. The highlite was Friday afternoon when my new to me rig came in the mail. It made friday better as I had been stuck in the mud with a load of hay earlier in the day. The weather has been shit all weekend cold snow and rain. Saturday morning I went to a farm auction to buy a grain drill. I stood there in the cold and drissel in mud up to my knees for an hour and a half. No luck it went for just twice what I wanted to pay. Later I helped a friend fix his girlfriends car. After dinner was the high point of the weekend when I drove the pumper to a car fire. It was going good when we got there. Today I worked on a combine I've had in my shop for a month, hopefully that'll be done this week. Later I went to the fire hall and washed my truck inside and out. Now I'm on this computer babeling on about my weekend. I can't wait till it warms up so I can jump and start field work.

Would you shoot someone robbing your house?
jumpinfarmer replied to Duckwater's topic in The Bonfire
He was no criminal, just a kid who had been dared to steal something. -

I caught a kid stealing gas from the farm tank one night and held him at gun point. When I told him I was going to shoot him so he wouldn't go anywhere he started to cry and wet his pants. He was no threat so I just let him go I felt he had learned his lesson. The next day he came back and again said how sorry he was and wanted to make it up to us. He spent the next few days stacking hay and picking up rocks in the 90 degree sun, and yes I paid him I didn't use him like a slave. -
Thats what I am. A farmer who jumps out of planes for fun.

Skydiver afraid of heights. Friends tease without mercy.

I've never liked heights, but since I started jumping my fear has almost gone away. -

I'm glad I'm not you. When your done you can write a book, or be on Jerry Springer. -
Nope. Not married. First was when I bought my farm. I've delt with big figures being in this business for so long that I'm kind of imune to large bills. I guess that's why the price of skydiving didn't scare me away.

Good thing it's cold and my DZ doesn't open for another few weeks because I've spent alot this week. Monday started out with a used rig, my first, so I'll owe beer too. Later in the week I was informed that the parts I have out of my combine will cost about 7K to repair, ouch. Then I started a project that I've wanted for years a new barn. So after sighning my life away to Farm Credit I got $50,000 and started work. This has probably been the second most expensive week of my life.
