Town uses Patriot Act against Homeless

Bad movie. Not worth the money. Good FX and a couple good tense moments. It got preachy with Tim Robbins as well (to show how evil humanity is and how pointless war is). Too much like all of his other movies - shot like it was Minority Report with that nasty fuzzy grey-blue filter that hides the special effects, some terrible blue-screen moments, a very obvious back lot moment with the red weeds, lots of moments stolen from ET, Close Encounters, Jaws, and the original (better) WoTW movie. And how many more times do we need a close up on Tom Cruise's face and that bulging vein? How many more moments could they put into the script to allow him to overact? Also - what the hell was the point of the red weeds and farming for blood? They go about killing everyone then suddenly need humans for farming? huh? They spend a million years planning this and waiting for humanity to grow in size and this is the best they can do? Why bother to wait until superpowers exist? Why plant machines that could easily be outdated a million years later? Why show aliens looking at a family album? They were here a million years ago and were not introduced to Earth's micro-organisms then?? All of the world is burning yet nothing in Boston is touched?? It was nice of his in-laws to be dressed in their Sunday's best for the end of the world as well. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. You know what this movie was? It was about how divorce/dysfunctional families can effect children set against the end of the world. The ending? blah. It was as if they were filming and went "ok we can end here now" and just throw in a monologue that makes no real sense to try to add closure. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... What pranks have you fallen prey to in skydiving?

They did it to Sky. One of his "no show" 10-way exits. He left, they waved, he flipped them off, they closed the door and went around. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
It's in my back yard so it isn't that big of a deal for me. A quick drive down one expressway brings me right to the exit. After a few years at Quincy I was tired of it and said I wasn't going to return (esp after the issues that last year). Last year was fun, but outside having my friends there it wasn't anything special (I can get most of that at Summerfest anyhow). Not sure if I am going this year or not.....read the thread from last year: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1204888#1204888 I had more fun at Couch Freaks for a lot less money despite the longer drive. Free beer, good parties, free food a couple nights as well, good jumps, easier to find people and vendors, easy to move away from the noise, etc. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... DZ= Prizate property (and there are plenty of bums there) Train Station = often open 24 hours/day, open to the public. While in college I used to go to O'Hare Airport to think and do homework. I would sit at the gates for hours on end watching planes take off. It was a favorite spot of mine. Why was I never kicked out? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -
The rules of the church can be changed - it just needs a meeting like that in Nicen or Vatican II. Or better yet get the Pope to declare infalibility which is defined as the word of God being spoken thru the Pope. The Church has built in plenty of loopholes to change things as they feel fit. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Please like I said find me one verse where it says homosexuality is OK....Use the apocryphal gospels also. I think you missed my point. What the bible says is irrelevant. Any private organization can make up it's own rules, by-laws, etc. What is in those writings should hold no sway on our government. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Do you see anyone putting that much focus on current civil unions? (other than possible green-card marriages) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Who's laws? Did he tell them to you? Is their proof of this entity writing them down? If not, why argue over the validity of what's in the bible? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

That is the issue I have here. I don't care if a non-profit, private organization wants to be selective on who it allows to eat it's bread and drink it's wine. But our gov't is flat out denying civil unions - based on what reasons? From where I stand it seems to be due to their faith and what their church is telling them. That is not right. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Exactly what did he say? How do you know which version of the bible to believe? What about the disputed apocryphal gospels? To believe that the written word is infallible and really the words of Christ is where the leap of faith comes in. Without that faith it might as well be a really bad work of fiction. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Per the Bible. How is it then several variations of Christianity come up with their own version of the book and what it is trying to say? If I wanted to, I could put together my own belief structure based off one of the bible variants, file as a church with the gov't and be an official religion. It is that subjective and changes that easily. The Catholic Church is KNOWN for changing it's rules when it needs to - what is wrong with those in the seats doing the same thing. There is NOTHING that seperates the Pope from any other Catholic. Nothing. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... It is if you believe in the Bible. I however am a heathen, so I really don't care. But it must suck to claim to be a Christian and then ignore the Bible when you feel like it. That is good for religion, like I said. However, this country is not ruled by what the Bible says. It also sucks when people use Christianity as an excuse to be ignorant, prejudice and racist. These are only some of the many reasons I separated myself from the Catholic Church. Also, you can live a good, moral, Christian life without ever having to rely upon the written word or a brick building. To limit yourself to those things works against you. These are mortal establishments that only serve as blinders for those that decide to live by the preachings of Jesus. I have my own beliefs, my own ideas of what is moral (I am NOT religious at all - that was a former life of mine) - I do not force them upon anyone. However, I am an American and believe in the written words of this gov't - esp the ones about freedom of speech/expression and seperation of church/state. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Town uses Patriot Act against Homeless
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.suntimes.com/output/news/cst-nws-home30.html U.S. blasts town for using Patriot Act to evict homeless NEWARK, N.J. -- The U.S. Justice Department criticized a New Jersey city Wednesday for invoking the USA Patriot Act to justify kicking homeless people out of its train station. In an answer to a lawsuit brought by a homeless man ejected from the Summit train station, the city cited a section of the Patriot Act regarding ''attacks and other violence against mass transportation systems.'' But Kevin Madden, a Justice Department spokesman, said Summit has no business invoking the anti-terrorism law in that way. ''The Patriot Act is a law enforcement tool to identify and track terrorists and stop them from further attacks on America,'' he said Wednesday. ''To apply it to this case is, shall we say, an overreaching application of the law.'' The city is among several defendants being sued in federal court by Richard Kreimer, 55. He is seeking at least $5 million in damages, claiming he and other homeless people have been unlawfully thrown out of train stations since August. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... It's simple - close minded ignorant people will force others via law to do what they want. Why? Because it makes them uncomfortable and nothing else. Conservatives love to drown other peoples freedoms and rights in their beliefs. There is NOTHING wrong with same-sex couples wanting to pair up and get the same benefits as current married couples. If the church doesn't want to accept it - fine. That's religion. But when the gov't bans a civil union on religious beliefs??? That is un-American as you can get. Besides - why stop anyone from happiness? What give you the right to do so? Over 51% of this country gets marriage wrong. Why knock down anyone that wants to try to get it right and make it work? Bravo to Canada and Spain. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Thought about doing that - I know it works on dogs, but didn't know if it was a good idea with a stubborn willed cat. I will try a combination of that and what Tigra said. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

A new(ish) programming framework from MS based off of C#/XML/ADO.NET/ASP.NET/SQL Server that allows for new functionality in Windows. It contains three parts ASP, a common runtime language and something else....drawing a blank. edit: Go ahead and install, all MS based stuff from now on will rely on it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Bites, has claws and breaks skin....and he is fixed. Nothing has changed with food patterns or anything else. He has always been a well behaved cat - the other cat usually keeps him in line. However she is getting lazier so he is finding other ways to expend his energy....like attacking me or my leather chair. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... If he is already...........do it again..........with a rusty fork. fork or gun first? I'm confused _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

That was the noise maker I mentioned in my original post. He runs away for a moment and comes right back. If I close the door to the office he finds a way to get it open as well....it's a sliding door and even when I put a baby gate in front of it he jumps on top and falls into the door to pop it open. Actually, I'm impressed at how smart and dense he can be all at the same time. Biting back huh??? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Trying the stern NO now. Usually it just turns into a staring contest - and this damn cat will stare forever (also thinks it's an invitation to rub his face on your chin). I tried the nose bit as well. It's starting to annoy him - he tried bitting me last night when I did it. Or he things I am playing and he will attack my hand (he has claws). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... ....biting you? I never really was a cat person until the last year or two. Then my roommate picked up two of them. One of them is the typical anti-social sleep-all-day fat cat - no issues there. The issue is with the one that is a few months over a year old. I do like this cat so suggestions to have him for dinner (wingnut) won't work here . Homer has kinda become my buddy - much like a dog. He plays fetch, he rolls on his back to have his stomach rubbed, when I am watching TV he is sitting next to me or in my lap. I had to place a chair next to my office desk because he wouldn't stop begging to be picked up, pet, or on my desk. Now when I sit down to work or play games he joins me and sits next to me - begs for attention for a while and finally gets bored, runs off or falls asleep. After some time he will silently come back into the room, jump into his chair and BITE me to get my attention. It was funny the first dozen times or so - but now he does it non-stop and the water bottle, compressed air or noise maker doesn't stop him anymore. Any ideas? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

It wouldn't even be a question for me. I'm finally back on track with my career after the downturn in the economy (unemployed four times in three years due to downsizing)...things are going great. I'm happy with my job and the path I have in front of me. However, it's a ton of work....I have years of work to catch up on and I want to be at the top of my game again. I bring my laptop home nearly every night and work on the weekends as well (my choice). Skydiving? It's in the back seat with everything else. It wasn't until certain distractions were gone that I was able to gain focus and put things into perspective. I'll jump again when I can afford to put focus on other things (plus I will be able to afford the jumps!). In the mean time I've found plenty of things that make me just as happy as jumping (besides the challenges this job brings which I love - and that also makes me happy). To only have one thing in life to bring you that happiness is pretty depressing. It's the responsible thing to do. Skydiving, jump planes, etc will always be there. You can't afford the toys if you don't do the work. I'm sure there will be some that say don't do it, just cutaway, or some drivel like that. Meh. Will they pay your bills? Who will take care of you when you retire? Getting caught up in that you have to have jumping in your life is group/mob mentality that allows people to justify their goofy life decisions. (and most likely are young to the sport) What happens when/if you quit the sport and you look back in regret at the decisions you made? I gave up everything out of college to pursue my dream job. There were plenty of constraints on it, and there were a lot of sacrifices made. I'm no longer in that field but the memories are incredible - and I've never regretted my decision. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
