But but but, Bush answered this question the other night. They increased PELL grants that none of these displaced workers can qualify for and he put through No Child Left Behind. Doesn't that help out of work skilled labor??? Most Title IV funding does not cover the entire cost of IT training. Also, many vocational schools that teach the cutting edge technology do not qualify for Title IV funding either. Also, it is very easy for a school to lose Title IV status. My school had it and it was pulled because of how many people we had attending classes. Yup, they pulled our license for review because we grew too fast and they wanted to audit us. If you think about that - IT people took advantage of the gov't grants and loans program and then they took it away because people were using the system as intended. Well, the audit is done and we will have funding again in March. But once we grow too fast again, we will lose the funding yet again. Bush's education plan is a joke. He has this slick title "No Child Left Behind" but most teachers realize it is a joke and just a ton of more paper work to do. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Not only can they get them cheaper, but they tend to have current, cutting edge skills. So, the idea here is to give tax cuts to companies that ship the jobs offshore, and then allow them to bring in H1Bs to take up the rest of the jobs? That should really boost the economy. What I don't get is that EVERY year they ask for the cap to be raised, but they never do anything about the workers sitting on the bench waiting to pick up another job that are already here in this country. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Time will tell. However, if we start seeing more dead bodies over Cyrpes fires again, well....I guess we will have our answer. The great thing about the Cyrpes? We can kick people off the dz for being stupid instead of going to a funeral. I'd rather piss off a customer then have blood on the ground. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I just re read the rule. It seems like it is open ended. This part seems like the staff would get to pick an choose who gets grounded. Thus allowing anyone that had a fire to argue their point. Am I reading that right? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

At a large DZ with multiple planes in the air? Often, esp if there isn't a spotter out there. There are always ways around being caught in this sport (esp if you are your own rigger). And if there wasn't, you will just have people with the rather illogical thought "Hell, I'm not going to get grounded" and turn off their AAD. These are often the types that are bullet proof and get sucked into a dive and distracted. I know you know the type, we've all seen them. That would be interesting to watch that rule get enforced. I would have no problem with it, but I'm sure many would. The scary thing is - I know two people that do, just in case they have another fire. I've seen that, and I also know of DZs that the DZO/S&TA will take anyone. There are some jumpers that post on this board that were banned at a couple DZs and finally found one to jump at, despite the calls. I don't know any of the staff at elisnore, but I don't see why they wouldn't listen to BC. For the smart ones, and the newbies. But most of those are the ones that you probably wouldn't have to worry about anyway. No disagreement on that. Like I said in my first post - I approve of the forward thinking at Perris. However, I still think it may cause some damage in the end. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Yup, exactly what I was thinking. Or just take the rig to another DZ/Rigger to hide what happened and thus not having the reality of the situation discussed with them (re:no lesson learned). Plus, I doubt that Elsinore is enforcing this rule so it wouldn't take much to drive down the street and jump there. And what about those idiots that don't have an AAD and DO pull low all the time? Just because they don't have a cutter in their rig makes it ok for them to repeat it? Also, do you really think that lack of a Cypres will cause the idiots in this sport to maintain Alti awarness? I'm sure by now we have all seen the Cypres ad with the guy landing in a backyard. The lack of an AAD didn't stop that guy from going low. This rule has some great intentions, and I support the forward thinking they have on this subject. I agree a lot with what people have said in favor of this rule. This sport is not for everyone, funerals, suck, alti awarness isn't an option, etc. However, I think this rule can end up causing damage in the long run....or worse, a dead body. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... What do you do? - Jim I work in education - both IT and Medical (and formerly I did Culinary as well). I see a dozen former troops on a weekly basis as they look for education after they leave the military. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Right, so something this important should be tossed to the side? This is how the CiC reacts while the country is under attack. But then again, we still hear about a white house BJ to this very day....as we can see that is the more important issue. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Yes, for the soldiers. Not for the innocents that just wanted to live out their life. They were still alive under the rule of SH, now they are dead because of GW. Somehow I don't think they feel as cold and detached about it as you do. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... "Iraq is lost" - Wall Street Journal Reporter Farnaz Fassihi

The vast majority of the military are for the President and his policies. They are loyal to him and believe in the cause. That book you referenced doesn't reflect the opinion of most. I've been trying to weed out the noise and see how many troops vocally support the war and the CiC. However, as the war goes on I am hearing more on a daily basis that are against it (some of them I see in my office). It is usually true that the angry have the loudest voices and those that support are too busy working to say anything....but maybe that should change. If the troops over there that were supportive of this war would release stories of the love that the citizens of Iraq show them, and how much they love GW, then they should come out and say it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... So do you feel that there are no lessons to be learned from the mistakes made in the Philippines that cannot be transfered to this scenario? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

There is a new book in the stores now. It is full of letters from troops that disagree with your brother. You think this country would have learned how imperialism doesn't work. Rome failed, the UK failed, and we failed as well in the Philippines. If our previous experience is any sign of our success - then we are looking forward to well over 40 years of issues. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... While we are slowly on the path to have it legal in this country (even Mayor Daley now has CPD writing tickets for people found with small amounts instead of arresting them), I'm not sure it is a good thing. Personally - I've grown up around too many addictions and watched all sorts of drugs and booze ruin lives. Therefore I am bias simply because of what I have witnessed. However, I feel that greed about a new enterprise in this country will increase crime. I know that there is an argument from every pro-drug person that could match mine, even some that make perfect sense. However...think of how common place booze is now. Think of all the issues we have as a modern society with booze - driving, mob involvment, addiction (I'm sure people will claim its not addictive)kids, taxes, etc. All of those modern day problems will carry over to marijuana as well. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I have come to believe the above statement is or is not true depending on which party is in power at the time This is the first time a White House administration, via Powell on Sept 9th, has come out and declared that genocide is happening in a nation (Sudan). From my understanding that has never happened before - Bush Sr didn't say it about Iraq and the Clinton administration used the term "acts of genocide." Even with the strongest language ever used on this issue, we are still doing nothing to help the people of the Sudan. IIRC half a million are dead, and a million non-Arabs are now homeless. This is happening NOW! Not decades ago. Newsweek even went so far to claim that after all those black ops were arrested on that flight in Africa in March (see: http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/africa/03/10/zimbabwe.plane/) that the US isn't even sending secret black ops over there to help the Sudan. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I have no idea how anyone would feel that asking for ID at the polls would be intimidation. People need to show ID to get booze or smokes - what is the big deal about proving WHO you are in an election? Honestly, what the hell is the big deal? We will probably need it here in Chicago (as seen on the news last night): http://www.nbc5.com/politics/3820905/detail.html Board Of Elections Investigates Fraudulent Registrations Thousands Of Allegedly Fraudulent Forms Examined CHICAGO -- NBC5 contributor Carol Marin reported Wednesday on an alleged scheme that may have produced several thousand fraudulent voter registrations. "Any temptation to vote twice?" NBC5 contributor Carol Marin asked Roger Huff, a Chicago voter. "Absolutely not," Huff replied with a smile. Huff can smile now, Marin said, but he wasn't smiling when he found out he was the victim of a crime. A few weeks ago he received a new voter registration card in the mail. "I've been a registered voter here in Hyde Park for over 20 years at the same address," Huff said. Huff lives in the 5th ward, but suddenly he found out he was also registered at the Hyde Park Bank building, in the 4th ward, where he keeps his law office. "I didn't submit this application," he said, referring to the registration form. But someone, or some group apparently using comuter voter registration forms, signed up Roger Huff and maybe as many as 3,000 others, according to Marin. Langdon Neal is Chairman of the Chicago Board of Elections. In August, we began a investigation of these registrations ... to determine if any fraud is involved which could be the subject of law enforcement prosecution," Neal said. Back in March, the Board of Elections anounced a similar investigation -- that one in the 26th ward, involving as many as 2,000 suspect voter registrations. Marin said the new scheme was discovered by Board of Election workers who began noticing discrepancies. "The last four digits of their social security don't match, the age doesn't match, the date of birth doesn't match," Neal said. In the last 6 months, 240,000 new voters have been added to the rolls in Chicago. But Langdon Neal said that for some of those new registrations, it all may come down to a few individuals and greed. "They were paying people to register voters. They put a bounty on a registration, we like to say, and, unfortunately, they elected to take the easy way out and the fraudulent way out and simply went through a phone book and registered people," Neal said. "In Chicago, has there ever been a year when there wasn't somebody trying to do something to scam the election process?" Marin asked. "Well, we are living by a reputation, unfortunately that is a few decades old," Neal replied. "If the question is, 'Are we fraud-free here?', no, not yet, we're working on it." The Board of Elections said once its investigation is complete, it will decide whether or not to turn its findings over to the state's attorney's office. It is a potential Class 3 felony, Marin said. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Blasts Kill Seven in Baghdad's Green Zone
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
I guess this is progress in Iraq? The most secure area we have over there and they WALK into it? This is the area where the contractors are now hiding out because they are scared to walk/drive the streets because they could be kidnapped and beheaded. And in other news, another American was killed by another IED today outside the green zone. _______________________________________ Blasts Kill Seven in Baghdad's Green Zone By NADIA ABOU EL-MAGD, Associated Press Writer BAGHDAD, Iraq - Insurgents penetrated Baghdad's heavily fortified Green Zone and set off bombs at a market and a popular cafe Thursday, killing seven people, including two Americans, the U.S. military said, in a bold attack on the compound housing the U.S. and Iraqi government headquarters. The U.S. military said the bombs appeared to have been "hand-carried" into the zone. If so, it would be the first time insurgents have successfully infiltrated and set off bombs in the heart of the U.S.-Iraqi leadership of the country. The attack raised fears over security in the compound — where the U.S. Embassy and Iraqi government offices are located — and underscored militants' ability to strike in the capital even as U.S.-Iraqi forces are carrying out a new offensive to suppress them in other parts of the country. A thick column of black smoke rose over the central Baghdad neighborhood after the blasts. A U.S. military statement said seven people were killed in the two blasts, including two Americans. The statement revised an earlier count of eight dead. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

Will the FEC shut down Speakers Corner?
ChasingBlueSky replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in Speakers Corner
See, this is where bias comes in. Personally I saw it showing what rights an organization has currently and how they are excercising them. This artilcle points out that sort of OpEd piece would be gone if the the FEC was involved. I did not see it as anti-NRA. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again..... -

What's causing pilot chutes in tow?
ChasingBlueSky replied to JohnMitchell's topic in Safety and Training
I had a series of hesitations, and one that only partially pulled lines off the bands (baglock) due to the changing of length of the kill line. The window still showed that it was cocked when it wasn't. I solved it by replacing the PC and haven't had the issue since. With the baglock, I knew I had pulled high and when I looked up and saw the bag dancing above me, I yanked on the risers a few times and the last stows came undone. That was the last jump I made on that PC. Now when I pack, I use the method Bill Booth showed us on how to check if it is cocked just by looking at it, and I will do a test throw to see if it inflates instead of looking at the window. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... We cheated - instead of Cat grips, we used to take hold of the leg straps. It's easier to launch it this way out of a otter and hold it together. The best we did was six or seven people (nine out of a tail gate)....if you try more they tend to hit the door . With as many people as we had on, as leader I was almost able to do a full circle coming back to grab the person at the end. Booties really help with the steering and you have to over control your inputs to get the train moving. I never thought of trying to do a barrell roll. As mentioned, full face is a good idea. And build it heaviest up front, lightest in back. We did one with two heavy guys on the ends and the guy at the back didn't last through one or two cracks of the whip. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
