Welcome to life in tiny, title one, country school district! I was tired and in a rush to get out the door to pick up my son and I worded it a little wrong. My apologies. It is more that I do not know who I will get to talk with about this because the specialist we work with is on maternity leave and she comes from another district. My new friends just started on Thursday. There will be a staffing and an ARD, of course, then I will have more info. I do not know who will be there for her, however. I doubt I will get to corner them and get all the answers I would like when I am in a new situation. If I was in dire straits she would come over baby in tow. I just thought I'd get a few good ideas here faster than I would at school. And I have! Again, poor word choice, my apologies... ____________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny.

This has nothing to do with skydiving but I am looking for a little help. One of my new students is hearing impaired. He has hearing aides and I was recently given an FM to use with him. I think that is what it was called, our district doesn't have a teacher specifically for deaf children. I will not get a consultation with the specialist unless there is a problem because he came to me so late in the year. I don't think the FM is working and I have charged it over night. I am still raising my voice to get his attention if he is across the room. I had a friend take it outside the room and I couldn't hear her talking. My question is this...Should I have been able to hear her? Or is it related to my students hearing aide? He is only six so he can't really answer my questions. Any help would be appreciated. Kristin edited to add~ in case I am calling it the wrong thing, he wears one around his neck and it has a little box with it. I wear one as well and it has a microphone. ____________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny.

I don't think my ankle was near as messed up as yours was, but I got this advice from a jumping doctor. I stood on a picnic table a few feet off the ground then jumped. If I could do that a few times plus a PLF she said jump! Hope this offers some help...Be careful! Edited to add~ my ankle was not THAT messed up, it was a running thing. ________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny.

Military Coffins: The Photos You're Not Supposed to See

No one knows that it is their relative. I don't suppose I can explain it, but it is the idea that I think is wrong. The pain is so real when it is your family member and to have to share it with the world... It is too personal. That picture made me cry and it wasn't my dad this time. I feel like I invaded the privacy of those who are involved...Like I took something that wasn't mine. If that makes any sense... Maybe you just can't get it until you have thrown an entire set of dishes at a wall trying to makes sense of your loss, trying to figure out why your Daddy was taken from you. _____________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -
I heard about it on the radio. Professional sports could use a few more guys like him. A friend of mine just got home a couple of weeks ago and there is talk of sending him back. Prayers to all our brave soldiers... _________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny.

I teach special education, resource (for kids who need an extra boost) in a title one (high poverty) school. Some of those crack babies are in my class and they are holding there own. I understand that it is years beyond when you are seeing them but they are holding their own in my class. Our day is scheduled to accommodate them, occupational and physical therapists are frequent visitors. Our classroom is designed to meet their needs. A psychologists helps me with their adaptive behavior plans. And I keep lots of aspirin in my desk! But, they can and do hold their own. I have one little girl, who despite fetal alcohol syndrome and crack addiction at birth, is an amazing artist. She competes in our district with the high school students. Did I mention she is ten? I'd bet money I'll see her work in a gallery someday. I know my life has been enriched because I have known her. edited because I can't spell aspirin! ________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -

Military Coffins: The Photos You're Not Supposed to See

I suppose not showing the pictures is a political thing to keep people from thinking about the dead soldiers. As a child who lost her father due to Vietnam, I think not making the pictures public is the only respectful choice. That is a pain families should not obligated to share with the world. Maybe the decision was made for the wrong reason, but I think it was a good decision. _________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -
Suppose Abortion becomes illegal..what then?
kpjumps replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in Speakers Corner
What about fathers? It seems to me that abortion laws say that the child "belongs" to the mother solely until birth. Not fathers, grandparents, aunts and uncles etc. Yet the minute that child is born the father has rights and responsibilities. The courts have even ensured grandparents rights. Yet abortion seems to only concern itself with the mothers rights. Do you disagree? _____________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -

There are 8 pages of this thread or I 'd go back find where it said in here that in cases of rape abortion was okay. Which is why I shared my story. It is harder to say it is ok when the the product of rape or sex in general has a face. I was merely putting a face to a hypothetical. _________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -

I understand that sex is fun. Skydiving is fun. Both can have consequences we don't hope for. Accept it and if you get pregnant own up to your actions. If you can't own up, don't play. Simple. _______ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -

Suppose Abortion becomes illegal..what then?
kpjumps replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in Speakers Corner
I am saying if you play with fire you might get burned. If you can't accept the consequences don't engage in the activity that will lead to the consquences. Like skydiving... How many times have I heard people in here say it can lead to death and if that happens I accept it... Don't feel sorry for me. It doesn't mean they want it, they just accept it as possible. Your birth control may not work, if you can't accept that, don't engage in the activity that leads you there. Simple, there is the woman's CHOICE. After that she can choose to keep her baby or offer it to a couple who is anxious to be parents. And while no one said Kyle, specifically, shouldn't have been born... they say time and again giving birth to babies conceived in rape is horrible and no one should have to face that. Well, That is my son Kyle. I was just putting a face to it. _________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -
Suppose Abortion becomes illegal..what then?
kpjumps replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in Speakers Corner
First and foremost I made the decision that was in Kyle's best interest, that is my HONOR as his mother. I also made the choice that was best for me, his grandparents, Andrew, Justin and Ross (his three best friends for nearly ten years), his aunt and uncle, his two cousins who couldn't imaginge life without a big cousin to pester them, his sister who came along seven years later, a few teachers who have been touched by Kyle. I'd bet his future wife appreciates it. (Well, most days she will) And who knows how many others Kyle will touch. He's a very sweet kid. My point is this... Kyle belongs no more to me than any number of people whose lives have been touched by him. Why should my rights have been greater than anyone else Kyle belongs to? That never made any sense to me. I am only one person Kyle belongs to... Why should I be given special right to play judge and jury as to whether or not he had a right to be born? Bet he's be hoppin' mad (and devestated) to learn that many people thought because of the circumstances of his conception he had no right to be born! She MADE her CHOICE when she had sex. THAT was her CHOICE. When we make a choice we must accept what results from that choice. Americans have gotten away from that! __________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -
Suppose Abortion becomes illegal..what then?
kpjumps replied to Bodyflight.Net's topic in Speakers Corner
Then perhaps people will think twice about hopin' in and out of bed with each other just cause... Perhaps STD's and AIDS numbers will decline... Perhaps more value will be place on human life... Perhaps people will stop using abortion as birth control... Perhaps teenage sex will decline... Perhaps we, as a society, will accept some personal responsibility for our choices (and get away from all this it's not my fault mantality {sp?}) Many people tend to forget that except in the case of rape and incest, the woman DID have a choice. She choose to engage in unprotected sex. That CAN and often does lead to BABIES! As far as leaving moms high and dry, perhaps laws that force dad's obligation can be enforced... If Daddy is involved... Perhaps he can teach his son that fathers have obligations to the women they choose to sleep with... Perhaps Daddy can teach his little girl that she is a princess and any man who doesn't treat her like one doesn't deserve her time or her affection... If you get an illegal abortion and it is not safe...perhaps we, as a society, will learn that if you play with fire you just might get burned... As an interesting side note... I was raped when I was 18. It was my FIRST sexual encounter. The "glob of cells" so many of you think has NO right to life under any circumstances is my son Kyle. He and I enjoyed breakfast at chick-fil-a this morning as a special treat before school. Most of the time he had me laughing doing his Star Wars impressions. He can't wait to join the military and fight for your right to have these arguments on the computer. To quote him "I may completely disagree with what you say, but I will fight to the death for your right to say it!" And no, when I go into his room in the morning to wake him up I am not reminded of my worst nightmare nor do I see my attackers face. I see one of the most wonderful people I have ever had the good fortune to know. _________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny. -
Sounds like it is time for her to move out of their house and become an adult. No kidding. I am 33 and I am VERY respectful of my parents. I live ten minutes from them and see them often. I can honestly say my mom is now one of my best friends. She NEVER would, but if she forbid me to do something, I would nicely tell her that while I respect her opinion THAT is what is was, AN OPINION. Then I would tell her that while we may not always see eye to eye on the choices I make you need to respect my right to make them. Then I would say I love you Mom and Dad, but I am going to skydive and if you don't want me to discuss this aspect of my life with you, then I will respect that and not talk to you about it. Beyond that, there is no room for discussion. Just my .02! __________________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny.

In college a friend of ours had this stupid license plate thing.. You know, the kind that goes around your plate. He got it when KU won the basketball championship, 88, I think. He LOVED this STUPID thing. He talked about it all the time. We were sick of hearing about it. So we stole it off his car in the middle of the night. We sent him a note from the thing telling him it had had it riding around on the front of his car catching bugs and junk. Whenever we knew of someone going somewhere we sent the stupid thing along and had them take picture of it someplace famous. Then the picture and a note from the thing came in the mail. He had NO idea who did it! We kept it vacationing for a year before we put it back on his car in the middle of the night. It drove him nuts trying to figure out who did it. We did not tell him for a long time after it was back on his car! _____________ Edit: added the STUPID line! _____________ Your character will ultimately determine your destiny.
