  5. Caught a man (in drag, no less) fucking around on the edge of a 5 story parking garage when he fell off on video last week. Video called "bldg_fall_01.mov" can be found at: http://www.triaxproductions.com/trailers.htm. Warning: THIS GUY IS NOT WEARING A RIG, AND HE LANDS ABOUT 20 FEET FROM THE CAMERA!! enjoy, pope
  6. I am in receipt of your e-mail to Shilo’s Corporate office regarding your concerns about staying with us in Twin Falls. We are more than willing to work with you to try and meet your needs while in the area. Let me share our experience with base jumpers over this last year. In an effort to accommodate jumpers in the past we have offered very competitive rates…in addition we have opened up our conference rooms to be used as a resting place and a place to fold parachutes. Last year during your big event we made the meeting room available each day for the week…each day we cleaned up after the jumpers both in the conference room and hallways. Since then the jumpers we have had in have gone into our conference rooms without checking with us. These rooms were set up for meetings. They moved everything around, folded their chutes and left the room a mess. We then had to set the room up again. This happened three times over the last few months. When a conference room is not available they have used the hallways with music and conversation loud enough to disturb the other guests. Unfortunately it seems a few participants have spoiled it for all. As I said earlier we would love to work with you and make our facilities available to you. I think what would help is if you communicated to the other jumpers the issues that we have faced in the past. Our conference rooms are usually booked but if I have some advance notice of your visit I can set a room aside for your use. It would also be helpful if we had a contact person for any group of base jumpers that stay with us. Please contact me personally to coordinate your stay…I’m sure we can work out any problems and come to a mutually satisfactory agreement. I look forward to hearing from you. 10. nice first effort! some comments: your opening credits were about 15 seconds too long. I understand you were trying to time the action to where the music drops, but you'd be better off fading in the audio to suit your needs. Good choice of music, but with music like that you need to use a LOT more straight cuts. Your clips were pretty much just stacked on top of each other and then loosely cut to the music. For longer clips you generally want to use music that "flows" a bit better, but that's TOTALLY open to interpretation. That being said, in this project I'd have spent more time cutting it to the beats, letting the music dictate where the cuts happen, not the other way around. My feeling on dissolves is that you have to have a REASON to use one--I certainly don't see them as crutches--they are NOT. It's way harder to disguise a fuck-up with a dissolve than with a straight cut. Outside of straight cuts and dissolves, I think you have to have a REALLY, REALLY god reason to use one--there are very few that I could say didn't TAKE AWAY from the production value of a project. Cut down the overall length. Once you finish a project, go through it and try to cut it in HALF. (assuming it's soley for entertainment--otherwise do what the client wants...) It seemed like you were trying to extend it a bit to fill out more of the song. Fade the song out early--way better than forcing the viewer to sift through a bunch of rubbish to get to the good stuff--this is NON-LINEAR EDITING! There should'nt be any unintended dead spots--save that for linear edits. good job getting the sun to your back, but you could get there way sooner, and then hold your position (there was a lot of orbiting going on). I think you should be closer to the group as well, or change your w/a to fill the frame more. You might want to think about experimenting with a polarizer on bright, sunny days like those also... hope this helps...remember, it's only an opinion! keep it up. pope
  11. general rule of thumb is to walk away uninjured. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out that way. How you achieve that result is up to you. pope
  12. which is not to be confused with "pin-down at opening altitude." pope
  13. happens to me on my desktop machine. I've been with tech support for this, and even re-installed the OS to fix it. To no avail. good luck. pope
  14. found the following: "Canon EOS Digital Rebel xt (EOS-350D) 8.0 Megapixel, SLR Digital Camera (Silver) - Body Only" for under $400. is this an average price or too good to be true? for those that have purchased these cameras--What did you pay???? cheers, pope
  15. I don't mean this to sound smartass, but it depends on how close you'll be to your subject. I'd bet you'll get better video with NO WIDE ANGLE LENS at all. Besides, the more glass the lower the picture quality... pope
  16. Why don't you go buy a cheap(er) 19" DVI compatible CRT monitor and keep it at the DZ? Then you can run DUAL screen from the 12" G4PB and have all the realestate you need for editing! good luck pope
  17. You are correct that the goal of a video flyer when filming a tandem should be to "capture the feeling of the passenger," but a linked exit isn't a good way to do that. As others have said here, most TI's won't go for it, and it's really not safe, especially not knowing what the passenger wil do. That being said, and to answer your question, the PROs will exit with the tandem, keeping their passenger perfectly framed the entire time, staying relative to the tandem pair the entire time. They will not get much horizontal/vertical seperation on the hill. A PRO will anticipate the drouge throw and compensate for the fall rate change BEFORE it happens, so as not to change the framing of the student. A PRO knows how tandem rigs work and knows FAA/USPA/manufacturer regs on tandem safety/operations, and how NOT to violate them. A PRO video flyer will not only FLY his slot, and GET THE SHOTS, but he will also communicate with the TI, before, during, and after the jump(s). A PRO will take responsibility for his own BAD SPOTS, MISSED SHOTS, and other FUCK UPS. Bottom line is that the best thing you can do for improving your shots is learn how to fly on all axes, by doing as many jumps as possible. There is no substitue for experience. You'll get those shots you're looking for if you practice. If you are ever unfortunate enough to see a tandem go wrong from a Vidiots perspective, you'll change your opinion about video flyer/TI safety. Remember that any added factor to a skydive makes it that much more likely for something to go wrong--that includes adding a videographer. As for specific exits, depending on the aircraft, try getting LOW in the back of the door or from the front float position. with both hands on the back edge of the door (or the front edge of the door for front float). You should be as far back from the passenger as possible and preferably looking slightly UP at their face. Lead the TI a split second and instantly spring forward on exit, rolling into a back tracking position, flying up the prop blast/relative wind on the hill (if you wear wings, hide them for this part to avoid seperation) this will be a bit more difficult from a Porter, but you'll manage. As the tandem accelerates past you you should transition to a head down positon to stay a bit below them, getting ready for the drouge throw. At that point, you transition to whatever position you want to film the tandem in next, as you should be just off the hill at that point. A sit flying position is totally natural from here. here's a short example video (this one's from front float, but you get the idea). ---------------->click here for video
  18. why not both? Education is the key to prevention when it comes to flying canopies. You can't really stop people from buying canopies that aren't suited to their *current* abilities, or prevent them from downsizing too quickly if they are completely ignorant. I say teach them young AND tell them to abstain. I also think that a canopy course should be MANDATORY for new jumpers to get licensed. $0.02 pope

  20. I think it only works when you have the original (or a straight copy) CD... I don't think it will update songs you have already downloaded... J 1. connect to internet 2. Highlight songs 3. go to "advanced" on pull down menu>"get CD track names" done
