Yeah, I definitely agree. That said, that shouldn't be a reason not to consider bringing a sattelite phone. I mean, if they exist, you might as well, right? Also, the power of the mind is quite a large component in survival. It helps that I'm completely nuts, so I don't stand a chance from the get go. Ha! If you're gonna have a sat phone, don't forget the GPS.

I'd make sure you REALLY have the experience both in BASE and in the wilderness to do it safely. Bringing an EMT would be a good idea... Satellite phone?? Most importantly, Don't fuck up. have fun, pope

USB is painfully slow anyhow. Future reference: If you're having trouble with your maching recognizing your camera-make sure you try restarting with your camera connected in VTR mode at some point--often has worked for me... pope

Go Fast Challenge and CPC Championships
pope replied to swoopster33's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
FYI: It's not uncommon to see a DA around 7-9000' mid-day during the season at Mile-Hi...September won't be much different! Are there any other DZOs waiting on the ends of all these other big ponds with a $1000 bill?? Didn't think so. DWD for 370' is pretty impressive at any altitude though. pope -
Hey Jimmy-- I don't think you CAN capture HDV footage to FCP HD. FCP Express HD can do it, or I beleive that FCP5 can do it. Have you helmet mounted it yet??? can't wait! pope

Which is pretty silly. I understand the rationale of DZ.com not being the initial source of a site name, but when it's already been divulged, editing a site name out of a secondary source doesn't make much sense. The less people that know it, the less of a chance there is for some idiot to go try their first BASE jump there and kill themselves there, fucking things up for EVERYBODY, especially themselves. Doesn't seem silly to me at all. example from The World BASE Fatality List: #51 Christopher Kennedy, December 2,1997 Age: 35 Antenna Jump Tucson, Arizona USA Impact Christopher is dead when his feet leave the tower is what other jumpers said after this fatality. Using a skydiving rig not modified for BASE, and without any prior BASE training or experience, he climbed 364-feet up a 450-foot tower and jumped only to find his bungee controlled collapsible pilot chute didn't work well at slow airspeeds. A passer-by found Kennedy's body near the tower the next morning. He had pulled his reserve handle at some point prior to impact. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor in this fatality.

WHOA! Don't worry guys...it will work out somehow--the folks in the BASE community won't let you down...some ideas: I'd get ahold of Douggs in Lysebotn and run your situation by him as well...His finger is pretty much on the pulse of the Kjerag area BASE scene. Also maybe try Vibeke or Stein at the Stavanger BASE Klubb. The boys at Triax would love to help out, but alas, all of our canopies are also quite a bit smaller than what you require--sorry. Also call around to the different manufacturers and see if they by chance have a demo or two you could rent/borrow. It would be a very good idea to make a list of folks who could vouch for your BASE experience to make the "loaners" feel more comfy about the deal...no-one wants blood on their canopy! Anyhow guys, good luck, I'll keep my eyes peeled for you and maybe make a couple calls if you like. PM me your contact info... BTW--looking at the dates and sizes...would they be able to SHARE a single 280-ish canopy?? There's not a ton of overlap pope

Anybody ever fly a freefly suit with a camera wing?
pope replied to BlindBrick's topic in Photography and Video
I still say the tunnel is your best option. this suit is more dangerous than you think. good luck, pope -
poetic justice=EX_LAX BROWNIES. (just remember to not eat any yourself) I've done it. trust me--you'll feel better. pope

Has anyone tried this 5 in 1 camera from Radio Shack?
pope replied to dbattman's topic in Photography and Video
what's the point? Where I come from $129 is still a pretty good chunk of change. FYI, you can get DECENT Sony cameras on Ebay for not much more... -

Personally, I think it's totally silly that you are jumping this suit with your jump numbers. Even sillier of your DZO to "require" you to get one... I jumped a Tony suit with a "D" wing and freefly legs for years...and it can make a huge difference when your trying to stay up with a small tandem master and a 90lb. passenger...but it's like ANY OTHER SUIT; you have to fly it properly to make it work for you. If you want to slow down try hitting the tunnel for awhile--you might learn a lot about flying slower then... pope -
Umm...maybe stating the obvious, but if you're worried about trespassing, why don't you land in the street or on the sidewalk? I'm pretty sure you have permission to be there... I prefer to take the "stealth" approach and do everything possible to not be seen anyhow...people asking questions leads to more bad stuff, and takes away from valuable packing/drinking/fucking time. just my $0.02 pope

how much excess line are you leaving between the last stow and the risers? what kind of canopy? what is your bridle/PC configuration?? What is your deployment technique? When I jump a wingsuit, I like to stack the odds in my favor--as a general statement--don't be a cheapskate and jump non-recommended configurations with a wingsuit in order to save money...if you can't have a WS dedicated rig, at least make your bridles, PC's, etc WS friendly! Spend the $ for dynamic corners if you believe in them...chopping from a WS mal can't be too fun! later, pope (looking forward to my V-1 arriving soon!!)

Don't you think "banana" is being a little generous??

I'd bet they get their gear back, too. could this set a legal precedent, if they do??
