  1. why don't you post thm in flash? AFAIK images in flash cannot be poached. pope
  2. pretty sure it's only been *possible* to buy one of these for about two weeks, but it looks interesting...I don't know if its "higher" quality will be noticeable unless you are watching your footy on an HDTV connected by firewire DIRCTLY to the camera though... I've read that pretty much any advantages are lost when you downconvert to SD. pope
  3. the video is a must... I wish I had had one on my first jump...
  4. stupid question maybe, but could you have flicked the 'lock' for the photo capture on the power button and be using it in memory card mode?

    Colorado to Bridge Day?

Anyone driving out to Bridge Day 2005 from anywhere in Colorado that might have room in their vehicle for a couple large sized boxes? thanks, pope chrisATtriaxproductionsDOTcom

    Injury . . .

Absolutly!! They need to be held accountable for this. Not likely. I hope they are though.
  7. I don't really see ANY advantages for your average skydive. Especially if you're flying a much smaller canopy (than your BASE canopy)that you can't land on rear risers. The difference is in the reserve. pope
  8. I liked the concept FOR A SHOT OR TWO. It's way too long without some sort of storyline to sustain interest, no matter how cool the shots are or how good the music is. Most of the shots *individually* were good--could be made more interesting though. AM: I think you're wrong about many of the shots ending with him 'clearly walking towards the camera and shutting it off, right before the transition' My impression was that that was a 2 person effort, one in front and one behind the camera--but I see your point. As far as the motion graphics thing goes, after looking through the website, I really don't think that that video was supposed to be showing off their motion graphics skills...I think it was just putting something cool to watch on their *new* website. 500GB--I guess it worked. $0.02 pope PS: I may be partially biased because the whole thing seemed to be filmed in the Colorado Rockies, and these guys are obviously from Boulder where I live. (never met them though).
  9. I think it's legal to jump, but it's not legal to land without the property owner's permission, and a NOTAM. It's would also generally be illegal for a pilot to let you out-- ultimately depends on the circumstances. Find a pilot who doesn't mind the risk and get up early.
  10. To quote TA: "It would, I think, be quite foolish to ignore the last 20 years of BASE gear development. " That pretty much sums it up--why would you? pope
  11. Cross wind or not, the wind did not 'blow' you into the hangar, you failed to fly yourself to a safe landing. word of advice from someone who has learned the hard way: Take TOTAL resposibility for it and the lessons you learn will be much more valuable. heal soon! pope
  12. I think people were mislead by you saying "HP canopy" I know I was. If you are flying or downsizing to any HP wing, you should not need any assistance in the *actual* landing of the canopy--if you do, IMHO, you're not ready to downsize. good luck! pope
  13. Thanks! Continuum III is in process-- We're going to *try* to release it at/by BD'06 I know Douggs was ripping high 20's from Smell like 5 years ago--and that was just in a pink tutu/leotard and trailing a handbag! Think what he could do in a dress! pope
  14. The Lone Ranger and Tonto have been in hot pursuit of a notoriously dangerous bank robber for two days, and then, suddenly, seem to have lost his trail. The Lone Ranger calls upon his trusty companion Tonto to use his superior tracking skills to get them back on trail. Tonto dismounts, walks a few steps, and kneels, putting his ear to the ground. When he lifts his head, he looks at The Lone Ranger and says authoritatively: "Buffalo come." "How do you know?" Asks The Lone Ranger curiously. "Sticky."
  15. Man! That would be SICK! There are plenty of these exit points around the world, the requirements would vary depending on the type of jump you were doing. The vertical distance needed to begin forward movement also varies--In experienced jumpers, I've seen it vary between sub-2 seconds (~30 ft.) and 6+ seconds (~100+ ft.). Since it's generally a good idea to not touch the cliff in freefall, The more dead vertical or overhung the face underneath the exit point is, the larger margin for jumper error. Again--largely dependent on type of jump, skill level, etc. Altitude will also effect your ability to get your track on. I suspect that your imagined jump in pakistan would require quite a bit more time/distance to begin forward movement than the same jump at one of the more popular Norweigen crags due to the altitude of the exit point relative to sea level. all this talk about teminal jumps is giving me a woody. I need to go plan a trip! pope
  16. IMO, brands to stay away from are: JVC and Samsung--Across the board. Canon has a couple of OK models and I would use the newish 3CCD Panasonic. I have experience with many of the above brands and Panasonic is *by far* the only one I'd give money to. Right now I use 3 Sony cams and one Panasonic cam (mostly Pana). pope
  17. sorry to hear about your injuries. Yes, it certainly is disabling. Out of curiosity, what did you mean by: I'm of the belief that short of getting hit by a bolt of lightning in freefall, injuries one sustains while parachuting are their own fault. Everyone who consciously makes the choice to jump from an airplane or exit an object needs to take responsibility for their action, IMHO. I think most people that have been in a similar situation as yours will tell you that generally speaking, DOCTORS DO NOT [TRY TO] UNDERSTAND SKYDIVING. In many cases, it's about your attitude. Keep positive, go hard at physical therapy, and commit yourself to the fact that you'll be skydiving again. Also accept that when you come back you need to be open to changing your gear configurations (ie: bigger main, reserve, protective gear etc.) Oh--and seriously--anyone who tells you where you can and can't go, DZ or not, needs to be cut away! Not a strong foundation for a healthy relationship IMO. good luck, pope
  18. If you can donate a half day or so to the cause, please get ahold of jasont@canopypiloting.com asap! cheers. pope
  19. Yes, there is a lot of fun to be had--- But I prefer to just put myself on the national do not call registry and not let them waste my time. On another note, you may not have known that all junk mail with a 'postage paid' return envelope is good for up to around 70lbs. So if you want to save up all your junk mail, fill a large box with it, and send it back to the original junk mail sender, then THEY have to deal with it.
  20. Yes-- so far I've been doing all of that, been seizure free for more than three weeks now, which is good considering I was having 14-17 per day before meds. I've only lost consciousness during 2 seizures, both the same day (in the hospital), the rest I remain lucid throughout. They usually only last 10 seconds or so, and before they stopped, I'd practice emergency procedure during the seizure... I'd love to hear more about how you've dealt with jumping--did you have epilepsy before you began or is it a recent piece of baggage? It's a brand new diagnosis for me, and, well--it sucks. Very hard to go to the dz and hear my gear call me to put it on. Fortunately, the folks at my dz are some of the best people on the planet and it makes it so much better! I'll be back in the air before too long, but in the meantime, I'll be alphabetizing my sock drawer! cheers, pope

    epileptics:

anyone know any epileptic [experienced] jumpers? I've been recently diagnosed and it would be nice to talk to someone who has already "jumped" this hurdle... cheers! pope
  22. recently diagnosed and wanting to talk to other jumpers who have had to overcome this hurdle. Sound off here or PM me cheers, pope
  23. Money IS an object and I did/will still buy one. pope
  24. this is possibly the best thread EVER on DZ.com. cheers Mike, Nick, and Skypuppy. pope
  25. I think it was, actually. Just hadn't left Thailand yet. pope
