  3. Miami--you changed your mind yet? You (and yours) seemed to have such a good time last year! 7pm tonight! YOU'RE ALL INVITED!! pope .
  4. Let me restate: Would you come to a CO dz to work as a video flyer at said dz in order to TRAIN (on your non-work/slow days or not)? Swooping the pond with a camera on has nothing to do with it. but, as a seperate, direct answer to your question, "To get the shot." cheers pope
  5. five words for ya: S C U B A. When in Rome Greece...
  6. Skip the oxycontin--that's baby food compared to what he's getting. I'm not sure how he'd feel about the other two, although I know he'd love the support! Thanks all. pope
  7. based on the ad at: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/detail_page.cgi?ID=30801&d=1 For you video flyers/Swoopers out there: would you relocate to a nice DZ with a killer pond to work/train at if it was at 5100' MSL? Or would you rather train somewhere closer to sea level? What would your deciding factors be? let's hear it! pope
  8. As many of you have heard, Matt Hecker, fellow jumper and all-around adventurer was critically injured last week (read more about it here). He needs our help. Let's prove that we can see past our differences as BASE jumpers/skydivers and unite as human beings to show him some support. We have set up a donation spot on the web, where you can donate money, send well-wishes via email, or get info to send him a card or other encouragement. Please give what you can afford, even if it's only a well-wishing hello. Please go to the place to donate to hecker on the Triax Page. Any questions about this site/effort can be directed to myself or Alex G. Thanks! pope PS: All donations go straight to Matt. The Triax page is just a place for the site.
  9. what do you mean "can't make it?" You better have a good excuse!
  10. Do you mean the triple-lap dance at last year's BBB Party? Man--that WAS scary! I almost suffocated in those things! Too bad you can't make it this year! cya soon, pope
  11. 2nd ANNUAL BOOBS BEER & BASE PARTY IN COLORADO! Hey everyone! The Triax "B.B.B." (Boobs, Beer, and BASE) party is coming up next week and you're all invited! Last year's was such a huge hit we HAD to do it again this year! A ton of us are gathering at the (in)famous "Shotgun Willies" club in Denver for a mid-winter bash! Playing BASE/Skydiving videos whether they're professionally produced or not on 6-8 TV's around the house, we'll be drinking and WATCHING all night on sunday, 2/19 (that's the day before president's day, so don't worry about work!) Did you make your own skydiving video over the winter? Do you like any of the aforementioned "B's?" Show up and represent! Many of the newest BASE videos will be playing as well! Please visit http://www.triaxproductions.com/events for complete details! feel free to RSVP via email to chris AT triaxproductions DOT com, or just show up! Cheers, pope
  12. GREEN TEAM! RED TEAM! ABORT MISSION! I REPEAT--ABORT MISSION!
  13. Although I totally think we should use all of our best instincts while we're jumping, my personal belief on each and every jump is that my canopy is only going to open one way... the WRONG way. Early on I had this nugget passed on to me as I'm on top gearing up to make one of my first few tower jumps, going over the jump with a more experienced friend: Him: So which way is your canopy going to open?" Me: "That way (motioning an on-headng opening)." Him: "Wrong." Me: (looking puzzled) Him: "You're going to open up with a 180 and line twists, you'll have a couple broken lines and your canopy will be on fire... You ready to deal with that?" Me: (thinking for a minute) "Yeah, except for maybe the fire part." I understand the context in which you made the statement, but I think it's important to point out a couple of things: 1. that there are no absolutes on heading performance. All of us have seen (or been) jumpers with good body position, square shoulders, good packjob, and light/varible winds have fucking horrendus openings. I think that by beleiving that you know anything about how those uncontrollable aspects of a BASE jump might play out, you're being complacent. 2. You should certainly always read your opening, but in most cases, by the time the opening is complete you should already be well-into problem-solving mode and beginning to make corrections, but again, YMMV depending on your situation. each jump/jumper has their own circumstances. Not meant as an argument C.S., just adding my own languaging. cheers, pope
  14. Matt is still in the surgical intensive care unit and is listed as "serious, in a critical state." Please keep him in your thoughts--We can't lose such a creative young mind in the world, let alone the sport. I'm going to try to go down tonight. stay strong brother! pope edit: it kills me that this happened mere blocks from my house and I just found out now.
  15. I'm not actually sure that it is either of these, but I'm getting killed trying to figure something out. If anyone could answer a few basic questions for me via email, PM or telephone, I'd sure appreciate it! Contact information can be found at: http://www.triaxproductions.com/contact or via my profile. Thanks, pope
  16. T-dog--if I already jump in this outfit, what happens to ME if I get caught? Of course I wouldn't get caught, because I won't use the differential stow anymore. Not because it's completely horrible, mainly because I've switched over to masking tape ONLY both slider up and slider down. Personally, I feel that six wraps is a bit excessive--I go with 2-3 wraps on thinner tape, sticky side out. This is WAY less 'scary' than using a tailgate to me, but like Jaap said...Don't listen to me, I'm pretty new at this. pope
  17. How many of you regularly back fly when filming tandems? If so, how much and what kind of experience do you have with it? Good results or bad? I know that this dropzone is looking for back flying video flyers. If you film tandems professionally, what's your opinion of back flying vs. belly? pope

    bump-- C'mon, folks...anyone else?
  19. This is obviously a dropzone that's put a lot of time, energy, and money into building itself up. Their brand-new Otter climbs super fast, as does their King Air. The new swoop pond is unbelieveable, too. The trailer ride after you land is a bit of a drag, but They have the architectural plans hanging up in Manifest to move everything over to the other side of the runway to nix the trailer! I'm going back asap!
  20. not when you average about 100/week before that...it's all relative. pope
  21. Many seizure disorders can be controlled VERY WELL with meds. If drinking, lack of sleep and/or designer drugs are his thing, I wouldn't even have him leave a padded room.
  22. Since when? Shhhh. Don't tell my Mac--it might catch on and stop playing them. http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/Macintosh/osx/default.aspx I do have issues with the DIVX codec though. pope
  23. I love TRV's for general tandem/AFF workhorses. Cheap, up to par in quality, and easy to work with in/around the plane. That being said, I don't have a ton of time on HC's. pope
  24. yes, yes, and yes. . . to begin with. Add to that very inportant things like skill, stabilizers, planning shots. Format has a lot to do with it, for sure. Film is still king, IMHO, but certainly not the easiest/cheapest to work with in these sports! Crosswind is one of my all time favortie jumping flicks. It's a shame I have to watch it on DVD and not on a big screen! Fucking inspirational film! cheers Patrick! pope
