  1. You get a PAL version AND an NTSC version with each of these DVDs. They will work on any properly functioning DVD player in the world. Cheers! pope
  2. ding ding ding ding ding! We have a winner folks! Paul's absolutely correct. Name ten of your favorite movies and at LEAST 70% (if not 100%) have a storyline/plot. Just 'cause it's a skydiving video doesn't mean it has to be a skydiving video...know what I mean?? pope
  3. Thanks for all the work you put into this Donker. Hopefully we'll have time to produce something for this year's festival. one question though... would you be able to list the judging criteria for the festival? That might help people decide what to present... just a thought. rock on fucker. pope
  4. How will the meteo readings be accessed? Via web? Via telephone? Or am I not understanding this correctly...? cheers! pope
  5. how did you acquire the frame grabs? Was it done the same way? From the same camera? Was there a UV filter on either lens? I say the best guess is WB settings and/or program mode (e.g. sports v. beach and ski, etc.) Also check to make sure you're shooting in a manual focus mode (infinity). pope
  6. I agree with you there, Olav--but I don't feel that I was bad mouthing you or your staff--I was sharing my experience there this year as compared to my last visit to Kjerag. Please check your email inbox for the reply to the scathing one from you sitting in mine. cheers, pope
  7. I Put my Wallet, Passport, and Checkbook in the "safe" during my stay there this year. When I went to retrieve them, My passport and wallet ONLY were given back to me. When I mentioned that my checkbook was also checked into the "safe," N. began to look around THE CAFE for my checkbook. Shuffling through papers, looking behind all the piles of order tablets, etc. Why would it ever be there in the first place??? Take a tip and if you need a safe, (and you will, from what I saw) the SBK offers a safe that actually IS. Guys, you have a beautiful spot there...you're going to lose it if you run off the group who makes up the bulk of your business! Charge what's fair. DON'T go rummaging through people's things. Honor your word. Trust your guests...just a few suggestions. There was a dark shadow over Lysebotn for the entirety of my visit (and it wasn't just rainclouds!) that made this trip SO much less fun then my last with Iwar & crew in charge. I wish Olav luck in sorting out the difficulties of the business. It's not too late to turn it around! Two more quick matters of opinion: I second the Kiwi character in saying that the 500NOK meal card is not worth it...at all! Avoid it like the plague. Also, when a theft occurs at a place such as the White House, it needs to be taken VERY seriously, ESPECIALLY by the proprietors. A businessperson who has respect for their clients and their business will take quick action to rectify the situation. Granted, it is not their RESPONSIBILITY to prevent theft in a place like the White House/Campground, but IMHO shrugging it off and blaming the 1st scapegoat that comes along is not how a business should operate. When a theft of ANY kind occurs within our community, it's also up to the collective (US) to work to fix the problem...whether that involves stirring a pot of tar or not... pope

    Best RIG??

errr...ahh...errr..umm...err. ..well what I was REALLY trying to say is errr...umm...ahhh you need to...err umm...errr...eerrrr..." "oh that's right, it was err...GET STUFFED YA SOFT FUCKING CUNT!! edited to add that the handbag container, which we have called the "Strickland" is still under development and has not been fully tested at this time. When they are ready for the market, they will come stock with your choice of pink, black, or mauve fishnets which are in fact a critical part of the design integral to your safety. We at Triax apologize for the length of time it is taking to release this product, The handbag deployment system--we get calls literally every day from (ahem) "different" BASE jumpers from around the globe begging for its release (and embedded rhinestone studding). [Interesting sidenote though...suspiciously, all of these callers seem to all have a NorCal area code and a Kiwi accent feigning bad Californian...curious, huh?] In any case, the Strickland handbag deployment system will not likely make its debut in the Lysebotn Tourist Camp apparently. Look for it in a BASE boutique near you. PS: to the "mysterious" Kiwi barraging us with phone calls with questions about the item; Yes, it is possible to sew an exterior pouch to the handbag sized for your XXL Maxi Pads! Now give it a rest, quit calling us, and get some work done on your GDP issues! pope

    Best RIG??

Hopefully your fjc instructor will help you understand that excellent openings aren't produced by what kind of container you are jumping, and not necessarily the canopy, either. Learn how to pack, and learn ho w to decide what the right equipment for the right jump(s) is. pope
  10. The latest is the same as the first...If you're that lazy, you should just let someone else do the editing. pope
  11. if you don't know what to get, just wait until you land in that country and go to the airport magazine shop--they'll hook you up. pope

Hey all--is there anyone who will be there during this time with a laptop with a CD/DVD burner to clear photos off of full CF cards? I'm pretty sure there isn't a internet connection there decent enough to transfer 1GB+ via ftp, right? SO I'm hoping to be able to dump to CD or DVD (but I am laptop-less). If anyone knows they'll have a laptop there with a CD burner on it, and they'd be willing to let me burn a few CD's, please let me know! Cheers! pope edit to add: chris AT triaxproductions DOT com
  15. Well, I can't say much about the prizes, because I didn't win one, but who cares? The party was a prize in itself! I just returned with almost 12 minutes flown between me and my 7 year old companion--pretty good for $20.00 if you ask me--and a great crowd too! Of course seeing the Go Fast! Jet Pak fly over the tunnel and do 360's was pretty cool, too. Thanks SVC and Go Fast! Sports! All you Naysayers please continue to stay at home and eat your frozen pizza by yourself--I'm going back to SVC sunday to give them another $20--even if it's just for a cool pizza party! pope
  16. That looks more like you're getting attacked by a giant Portugese Man o' War.
  17. This lesson I translated from surfing to BASE awhile ago, but is as fitting at the Perrine as it is on ANY other BASE jump: "You're always alone in big surf." Take it how you want, but remember that in these sports that we do, there's only one person that's responible for your safety, and if you can't figure out who it is, then don't jump until you REALLY understand that. 486' over water is still a BASE jump. Don't be a Dick. pope
  18. skip the vhs. You might need it once in the life of the recorder. pope
  19. please send/post pictures. pope
  20. anodizing makes the most sense for the purpose, IMHO. pope
  21. I've also heard Norton AV can get in the way of stuff like this and cause capture problems as well. pope but people haven't really written too many viruses for the mac yet...
  22. so have I... but not from the Empire State Building. Have a look. Where do you think you'd land if you took a tumble with no "jump" from the Obs. deck? My limited understanding of physics and architecture says he'd probably hit the building, no matter how good his subterminal track is. Not all BASE jumps are the same. Especially this one. Any BASE jumper that can tell me they wouldn't try for the ESB given the same resources that jeb has should be limited to the Potato. Jeb has more BASE motivation in his pinky finger than most of us reading and writing in these threads put together. edited to add: Jumbo Shrimp.
  23. IMHO, If you want something that feels good on the neck, hire a masseuse. Just make sure they weren't trained by SAMSUNG, or you'll be getting ripped off. cheers, pope
  24. using a light (or lights) for video is the solution I've used in the past. I use a couple of smaller Sunpak lights I got awhile back. makes a big difference. You also might want to see if you can find a Reflective ND Filter. ? pope
