attached is a template that you can change to fit what you want. use it or not, just don't get caught in the "better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it" situation. Your friends and family will thank you for it later. pope

sony hdhc3/pc1000/dvhc96 which would you pros take
pope replied to sinjin's topic in Photography and Video
Get the camera that can provide you with the best resolution. As far as I know that would be the HC3, and if the difference in size between those 3 cameras will make a difference to your camera flying, you're not ready to jump a camera yet. A Digi Still Camera like the Rebel XT or equivalent should be what you need to shoot pictures. If you insist on taking your stills from the video camera, get the HC3. $0.02 pope -
that's some sick video Paul. looks like fun. pope

a man as educated and obviusly esteemed as a Doctor knows pretty much everything about everything when it comes to anything involving a human being. Clearly you need to see a Psychiatrist.

THIS MESSAGE BOARD, AMONG OTHERS![/B] Lets all try to remember it's not just NPS nazis and Press that are surreptitiously monitoring this forum-- hundreds of Darwin candidates and newbies with Sabres (or worse) are out there right now, misinterpreting everything said on here, and not fully understanding the risks of what's involved with BASE. If we have better, safer equipment and methods out there for us to use, why WOULDN'T we want to use them? Personally I think this guy should be given one chance to listen to reason and when and if selfishness prevails and he decides to jump anyways, cut risers, toss his kit in the trash and chain him to a fence somewhere in central Austrailia. .

Hi Tracy; Please remember that all of us who have been lucky enough to know and jump with Adam are holding you in our thoughts! I know what you're going through is indescribably painful and I admire your courage and will! It was a pleasure meeting you, and being able to spend time with you and Adam in Mexico. I hope that you can find Adam's love and strength inside yourself to help get you through the rough patches to come. When times are tough, our friends and loved ones are there to help us through--that's why they're our friends! On that note, if you need anything from me, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm pretty sure you have my contact information, but if not you can find it through our website. blue skies, chris pope .

yes-- man up and show some real interest. No-one will want to mentor you if you don't care enough to do what it takes. Take this opportunity to REALLY think about if BASE jumping is right for you...no bullshit.

depends on the type/make of crane. Are you talking about a hammerhead (fixed "T" shape) or a luffing boom (hinged arm)? Do you have access to the operators booth? there is usually at least a "less-than_optimal" way out to the tip of the boom if you can access the booth. pope

It's always been a fantasy to find a podunk DZ somewhere and pretend to be a FJ student, just so I could get out there on AFF 1 and have a tracking contest with the instructors, blow through 5000' and suck it down low, disconnect the RSL, chop the main, take it down to the basement, and finally do a fat 360 deg. front riser turn to the landing. I'd then need to have a cooler of coldies in the LZ to give to the instructors right after so they didn't kill me!

I KNOW you're not telling me you can't tie a neat knot...right? pope
-
Use a disposable chest strap and a hook knife. eg: sewn loops on both sides of lift web at chest level. Use 5/8" or 1" tubular tape to tie yourself in using your secure knot of choice. Jump, whip out your hook knife, cut. done. On low pressure/legal jumps, you could just take the time to untie in the landing area if you want. A bit more expensive, but I imagine you're OK with losing a couple feet of sling a few times a week, no? cp

which? the chick or the horse?? Seriously--to the original poster: I know it's semantics here... but think about the term "dayBLAZE." That's never OK. Jumping during daylight hours is what you're talking about. If you bring heat to an object BECAUSE you jumped it during the day when you could have kept it stealthy by getting off it at night, you have just "dayblazed." If you have a good sense of smell, you'll also know when you've dayblazed if you smell tar cooking when you land. cp

I took what ta said to mean more like assembling the rig, as in connecting PC to bridle, bridle to canopy, canopy to risers, etc. these days I think the small variations in the building of canopies shows only neglegible differences in performance, although I would certainly expect a hand-cut canopy to be more inconsistent than a laser cut canopy... pope

No offense LDB, but shouldn't that be EVERY time, at EVERY object, legal or not?? pope

$1000 bills between the pages. Strippers to carry it around for me. A midget scribe to take full accounting of my jumps and write it all down in flawless calligraphy. Combinations to every padlock in the world. Phone numbers to the locals (of every area), directions to (every) object, a set of master keys to all other locks. relevant law enforcement frequencies My lawyer's number key to my Testarossa. How big is the book going to be? that will help me figure out what else I can get in there. Those are the basics though. pope
