    The VAT does not capture foreign shareholders of domestic companies. While I agree VAT is a very good tax no tax should be used exclusively. Corporate income taxes can capture corporate income that is exempt from VAT. Excise taxes, can be used to capture externalities from either the production (pollution) or consumption (vice) of items.

    With recent advances in converting regular cells into stem cells I can see where this will cause the religiously opposed to lament that their strategy almost forced science to come up with an alternative. One that may not be developed now. I hope it is. Not that I care one way or another,but clearly a lot of people do.

    I was riding north along the sidewalk on the left side of a state highway, for which the light was green. as I entered an intersection (via crosswalk), a car that was on the cross street turned right (south) on red onto the state highway, across my path. Where I live it is illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalk.

    No he wasn't. He was convicted. They just granted him parole a year or so ago. Have fun, I'm out of here. I have better things to do. He was convicted of another crime. He was a crown witness at the Air India trial, which is why he got paroled.

    We both know that pilots don't use reserves... they wear bailout rigs. I think you're losing the nuance. Pilot bailout canopies are generally reserve-style and reserve-quality canopies, packed more or less the way reserves are packed. Thus, they're generally considered to have about the same reliability in openings as ... reserves. Since bailout (emergency packs) rigs predate reserves aren't reserves generally bailout-style and bailout-quality?

    What a pile of shit. First of all a social worker will never have the ability to release this man. That decision will be based upon evidence from Psychiatrists. If he were sentenced to prison, then decisions could be made by untrained parole board members. You may wish to punish the insane for their diseases, but fortunately for the rest of us your view on justice (vengeance) do not hold sway. All you ever do on here is complain about what a shitty country this is. If you really hate it why did you come home? Oh that's right, the Americans wouldn't have you.

    The Ottawa public bus company has rejected Atheist signs recently but out here in Jesusland North they have been approved for Calgary buses. They haven't been put in yet, but I expect the outcry will be entertaining when they do.

    There is no death penalty, and no life sentence without parole, in Canada. But someone found not guilty by reason of insanity can theoretically be incarcerated for the rest of their life if they are not deemed to have been 'cured'. Sometimes the reason for accepting such a plea, at least in Canada, is that it can be a way around the law that otherwise would require even the most grisly killers to be released after 25 years. In cases like this it is not even a matter of a plea. The judge orders psychological assessment before plea is entered. It is common misconception that life without parole for 25 years means parole is automatic after 25 years. It is life with no possibility for parole for 25 years. Generally a life 25 sentence (as opposed to life 20, the minimum for murder 1) is a cue from the judge to the parole board to never let this guy out.
