  1. In defense of Skittles this is not an unreasonable place to raise this issue as a purely academic exercise. Nothing he has said indicates he is contemplating hitting anyone. As far as hitting anyone he is far from the only dude on this site that has espoused the concept of men hitting each other as a fairly normal part of society. For those of you threatening him, who is doing the escalating? As for the question itself the physical inequity is the easy answer, but more to the point it is part of society that we have established as never being violent, why would we want to backslide on that. The idea is to push the boundaries of civilization forward. Just as suing the guy who hit you in the intersection is now standard practice, why would we want to go back to gathering up our brothers and going to burn his house down. There are parts of the world where that would be your only recourse but we have progressed. Returning to a society where we push women around as well as expend considerable energy protecting the women in our own family would also be a step backwards. That said are their exceptions? Yup, you bet. I would not hesitate to hit a woman to protect a child. I think if a woman rips you off in a drug deal she gets no immunity. Since it has been over 20 years since I've witnessed a drug deal let alone participated, that one doesn't really apply to me. I am sure there are other situations, but as a civilized man I have worked to avoid the type of lifestyle that contains that sort of example. But for talking smack? Never!
  2. No. the red safety thread and seal are a non operational part of the pack job that have to do purely with compliance. Unless you work for the FAA forget it. If you are having a drink with the rigger you might bring it up, but that is it.
  3. My own experiences are closer to 300' with the recipient swearing they were higher than that. Regardless it should not be a problem as a student should be activating by 3000' anyway.
  4. I think the very simplistic mistake people make is to assume that the "handling" is done by a monolithic entity; it is not. The president's handlers are people that he personally picked to be his filters for the immense and unceasing voices of those who want one decision or another. Those filters are not uniform in their advice because, a) they have different people lobbying them and b) even though they all start out with the same goal they all develop their own personal agenda based upon what they think is best for the country and (less nobly) what is good for their career. Those who wish to lobby must first gain access (easier if you are the president of Exxon no doubt) but also decide which route will yield results (if you get the interior secretary to raise the subject the Chief of Staff will be against it because of some other war they are having that you know nothing about). Of course having the president on board is of no value if you don't have the correct senate committee. And on and on it goes. Anyone who claims to know where the decisions are made in Washington is either a liar or a fool.
  5. Ahh. His profile lists PST. If you are going to use a ripcord activated main I can see very little downside to using duel AADs.
  6. Bah! My story makes a better legend.
  7. Karma has no meaning unless you believe in reincarnation.
  8. Could have been that. Or it could be because he's a kook.
  9. Does anyone know how the depth of the epicentre effects the breadth of the affected area on the surface?
  10. I have no doubt the soap opera has had further installments but he asked how it started.
  11. Prognostication with a solid scientific backing (someone shoot Manning will you).
  12. I can't remember the exact details but it went something like this: A group of experienced jumpers were dirt diving 40(ish?) ways at Lodi. At some point Bill walked up and asked where his slot was. Bill was told he wasn't on the dive. Bill told them all to get off his drop zone. One of the jumpers (Ray Farrell) said something to the effect, "That fucking slow falling asshole! I'll open my own drop zone." He did and the shit has been flying ever since. It is worth noting that Ray lent Bill a plane so he could keep operating a while back.
  13. More like your vic suing the SUV manufacturer for using windows that are susceptible to golf club strikes.
  14. Doctors without borders gives the option of specifying a project. The have had a large presence in Haiti for many years. Sadly all three of their hospitals in Port o Prince have been destroyed. At the moment they are still trying to rescue/recover their own people.
  15. She is smart as well as media savvy, which is much different from our rural based premier. She, and the party are touting themselves as libertarians. I am undecided as to whether that is an accurate description as there is some pandering to the religious right. It is to be expected in this market but still, it is concerning. The party's position on oil and gas revenue seems to be one of utter capitulation. This concerns me a lot as the majors have run this province for too long. Compared to the deal Palin got for Alaska our current deal is not bad for Big Oil at all. The truth is Oil is pummeling the premier for the policy, pretending it is the reason for the downturn when $5.00 natural gas is the real reason.
  16. Complete and utter waste of time. The constitutional question has been answered. This amounts to very expensive posturing. If you read the constitution the provinces have exclusive jurisdiction over precious little.
  17. There's a football game there Sunday at 2. You probably can't get a ticket but a good seat at a sports bar will be fun.
  18. OK folks prediction time. Who will win the games this weekend? I've got: Arizona Baltimore Dallas San Diego
  19. Too bad AT&T and Verizon didn't stand up to the US government the same way.
  20. Fixed it for ya. When some non-druggie hits 61 in 154 games, we'll have a new record-holder. I was pulling for Matt Williams in '94, but the strike got him. I don't believe McGwire, Bonds, etal will ever get into the Hall, nor do they deserve to. And I don't think Maris' career numbers justify his entry into the HOF either.....just my opinion. Don Agreed
  21. What were the differences between the right to go to a coloured school and a white one? Did that case rest upon the ameliorable difference in the quality of the respective school systems or did the court rule on a more fundamental issue?
  22. pretty elegantly said right there Except the topic was about every human life, not a special one which a family member clearly is to each observer.
