For those who think that Congress respects the Constitution
Andrewwhyte replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
I am confused as to why the legislative branch is tending to what is clearly administrative business. -
The socialists are out of power these days so they have to freelance.

Sounds to me like your problem is the lack of a packer.

My only criticism is with the last question. I think 100% of people would prefer to have a new anything over a used one. Not a useful predictor of what will happen.

PIA Rigging Committee - What should it do?
Andrewwhyte replied to councilman24's topic in Gear and Rigging
What does it mean to be a rigger in Latvia? in Kenya? Although the FAA makes this question moot in the US it is important in other countries. In the late '90s a Kenyan by the name of Harro Trempeneau compiled data on most IPC member countries' criteria for various licenses (CoPs). From that the IPC came out with international minimum standards for FAI-CoPs. http://www.fai.org/parachuting/certificates_proficiency/ Although most countries have not begun to issue the international CoPs, the exercise was useful in realigning the various countries' criteria. Perhaps the committee could perform a similar function for riggers' certifications around the world. -
Wow! that is a real eye opener. Very well done presentation, kudos to the city.

I guess we have invaded this country according to France Haitians speak Creole and FRENCH !!!! We also need the French nilitary to get in Haiti, because as far as I know, the US soldiers doesn't speak French and that can create big problems. If the US military are not willing to coordinate efforts with the French, then one can doubt about the "moral legitimity" of the US. When someone is in desperate need to talk to someone because of so much suffering and despair, that person will express himself/ herself in his/her native language which is French!!!! I just hope Obama has already worked this out with France. By the way ask Europeans and other nations if they trust the US? Maybe they have legitimate reasons not to trust Americans. There are ~2000 Canadian troops there now and they do speak french. Also a lot of Haitians speak English. All aid givers need to co-ordinate, but there is no over arching reason for French troops. By the way the French President was backing and filling for his minister today. I think the guy was being a mouthpiece for Medçines sans Frontiers who are frustrated with a lack of medical supplies. The BBC claims that the priorities are coming from the Haitian government; food and water before medicine.

Yup, they are fighting what to some degree will be a losing battle to provide food, water, medicine, fuel, road clearing equipment, and security. There are still many many people who have received nothing yet. Of course everyone who has received help need more tomorrow. The more success they have the more the demands upon the system will be. Shelter hasn't even begun to be addressed and won't be for some time. Look at what is going on in New Orleans. This is a much larger project and will take longer.

US waves white flag in disastrous 'war on drugs'
Andrewwhyte replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
Sad, but probably true. However funding can actually be tied to things like beds and qualified employees hired. -
US waves white flag in disastrous 'war on drugs'

What do you think would happen if ten percent of the money currently spent on enforcement was spent on rehab? -
While I can see the precedent is clear it does seem strange that Senators who are defeated in a regular election continue to sit until their successor is seated. I suspect that the SCOTUS will have to rule. Perhaps some ot the legal wizards here will opine on whether the bench will give any value to prior practice when interpreting the constitution.

Safety as a practice; survival is an art
Andrewwhyte replied to patworks's topic in Safety and Training
There were 3 of them attempting crw summer before last over Moose Jaw Saskatchewan. Only one landed due to the wrap of the other two, but I would question your comment about the slow descent. The landing looked harder than the two reserves (a LoPo and a Phantom if memory serves). -
there are 9 million hungry people and they need more than one meal each. Dropping 1/2 a million units might still cause riots. 30 million or so units would be an enormous undertaking.

Practically wanting to see it silenced? Really? Ooh, scary! Actually it is scary. Anytime the government seeks to use coercion to control the message. Now people can always come back with, "Well it's not on the scale of China so it's not really a problem." but it is a problem and the dems need to be slapped down for it. The idea that freedom is protected only by vigilance cuts in civil society much deeper than militarily.

NO it's not alright, if someone talked shit about me and my boss believed them, then i probably dont want to be working for them anyways. Not liking what someone says is a piss poor excuse for physical violence OK maybe talking shit was a bad example. When I originally had this discussion it was why can't I hit a woman back. What if she winds up and pops one off as hard as possible? Most people still think it's inappropriate to hit her back. Why? What if it's Laila Ali? If it's Laila Ali and she winds up and hits you as hard as possible I think your best bet is to lie still until you wake up.
