Generally the import duties depend on where a thing was manufactured rather than where it is imported from. I would figure that out and then go to the US customs website.

I'm thinking the "Lamar High School Savages" doesn't have the support of the local band. Just guessing.

It's hard to see where the Colts lose, but I gotta cheer for the ol' 'aints anyhow.

Tough to go -4 on turnovers and win. Very entertaining game though.

Life in prison is not 25 years; it is life. It doesn't matter how many times people repeat that myth it doesn't make it true. Someone who receives a life sentence will be under that sentence for life. Parole is a possibility (in theory) for all after 10 (second degree murder), 20 (first degree murder), or 25 (not sure here but it may be high treason) years. The 25 year limit is in accordance with the Rome Statute of the International criminal court (article 110). Nothing mandates a guaranteed release. You are correct that the faint hope clause can cut these application times in half, but I have never heard of one being successfully used. Your assertion that the "average" is 12 years in a "life-25" sentence is horseshit. I agree that the two for one rule about pre-sentencing time served is bullshit. Fortunately the government is currently moving to remove it.

The leader of the group received a life sentence. Some of the followers have received less. Last week one guy was deemed to be involved but not necessarily a "member" (rather a pawn); he received a seven year sentence. Time served amounted to 4+ years meaning he was immediately eligible for early release as it was his first offense. Several others have had the charges dropped (guilty of no more than being gullible little assholes). The khadr case has become a cause celebre amongst the left up here for several reasons. First because he was a child at the time and many people around the world feel that child warriors bear little if any responsibility for their actions. Second because the idea that a fire fight is over while one side is still firing hand grenades is ludicrous. Third because of a widely held belief (shared by the POTUS) that Gitmo is illegal. Fourth because it is clear that the Canadian government was not only compliant with, but participated in, the torturing of a child. The real problem is that the chance of rehabilitating this guy approaches zero and no one knows what the fuck to do with him. As usual your position on the far fringe of the Canadian body politic leads you to grossly exaggerate. While the Canadian left considers anti-Americanism to be chic, as does the left in virtually all western countries (including the US), those who truly experience schadenfreude towards the US are like you, on the fringe. The justice system abjectly failed on this file. The truth is that the bombmaker was in prison at time and Canada's concurrent sentencing laws probably precluded him from getting any more time. The prosecution wanted the other two enough to make the deal; they were desperate. The fact that they failed to convict indicated that they never had the goods in the first place. No one likes it, but the price of living in a country with a balanced criminal justice system is that sometimes the bad guy gets way.

The term local maximum comes to mind.

The Taliban is part of Afghanistan's "political fabric,"
Andrewwhyte replied to jclalor's topic in Speakers Corner
On the other hand the purge of Nazis was complete and unending to this day. The question is are the Taliban like the German army or are they closer to the Nazi party? -
I don't generally eat fast food, but why not? In fact the last time I can remember being in a Burger King was in Madrid about 20 years ago and I did buy a beer with my meal. The only downside is the kids who work there won't be able to become shift managers until they are 21.

Is it Ethical to Vacation in Haiti So Soon After the Quake?
Andrewwhyte replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
After the tsunami the Thai government was begging people not to cancel their trips. The cruise line is doing the right thing. The guards guarding that beach need their paycheques as do the waiters, cooks etc. -
Exodus:22:2 "If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him." So the birth of Jesus changed nothing? I thought that was the point of the new testament.

Ya they went and got a point last night. They keep this up and they won't get to draft Taylor Hall.

For those who think that Congress respects the Constitution
Andrewwhyte replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
Technically, because Congress has an oversight capacity with respect to the other branches of government. And in order to oversee, it has the authority to investigate; and in order to investigate, it has the power to subpoena witnesses and evidence. Pretty thin gruel. It looks like congress's version of discussing your football picks around the water cooler. They need to get the fuck to work and, oh I don't know, draft a better health care bill. -
The union worker can go to the polls and vote. He should be allowed to donate to whomever he pleases. The stockholder can go to the polls and vote. He should be allowed to donate to whomever he pleases. The union president and the corporation president can go to the polls and vote. They should be allowed to donate to whomever they please. The collectives of the unions or corporations should NOT be allowed to do what the VOTERS are allowed to do. Those collectives cannot cast a ballot. I'm not a lawyer but it seems to me that individuals are afforded their rights under the constitution, not collectives. An individual may invoke the 5th ammendment, Has a corporatin or union ever been allowed to do this or has it been the officials of the collective who do it? The ability to vote should determine where the money comes from. I agree. I am not an American so I may not contribute. However I can waltz across the line, set up a corporation and funnel as much cash as I want into a race 3000 miles from where the shell is incorporated.

Social Worker vs. Dropzone Bum
Andrewwhyte replied to Bodhisattva420's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you go to the DZ and want to change your mind it will be much more difficult to use your stale degree than the other way around. Just make sure you get a Monday to Friday gig and work the DZ on weekends. When you burn out on the social worker gig (and you will) you can go to the DZ and call it sabbatical. People in your industry understand that. -
It's a pity some folks can't see America rather than North, South, Red, Blue. As if you have room to talk. Back that up. Do a search and find my disparaging remarks about a region and its people to prove your point. I'm comfortable with whatever you actually find. Go for it. What the fuck to those people in Boston know about tea parties anyway?
