  1. Nothing unusual about cattle ranchers shooting dogs for running their cattle. Happens all the time.
  2. I am pretty sure "our" Jim is not a rancher in Redwater, or anywhere else.
  3. Kind of like why Kerry's service record was suspect but Bush's wasn't. Or maybe why Clinton's was but Quale's wasn't. Or why Gore's personal carbon footprint gains no traction. It's all about spin.
  4. On a side note I gleaned this little gem from a yahoo article on Canadian politics. "Securicor can defend a bag of money with a gun in public, but you can't defend your daughter with one."
  5. According to Dante the virtuous pagans were installed in limbo. In the Divine Comedy, Dante depicts Limbo as the first circle of Hell, located beyond the river Acheron but before the judgment seat of Minos. The virtuous pagans of classical history and mythology inhabit a brightly lit and beautiful—but somber—castle which is seemingly a medieval version of Elysium. They include Hector, Julius Caesar, and Virgil. In the same work, a semi-infernal region, above Limbo on the other side of Acheron, but inside the Gate of Hell, also exists—it is the "vestibule" of Hell and houses so-called "neutralists" or "opportunists", who devoted their lives neither to good nor to evil, they are being pursued by hornets; its residents include those angels who did not fight at all in the war that resulted in the expulsion of Lucifer from Heaven, and also either Pope Celestine V or Pontius Pilate, the text is ambiguous. -from the Wiki Gawd it's time we put the fairy tales away as a society.
  6. And does Blagojevich have the same right? Gadaffi? No, or at least not to the same extent as you or me, because they chose to make themselves public figures. FYI, my opinion is influenced by my understanding of the concept of "public figure" in defamation law. Imperfect analogy; but you see what I mean: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Public_figure The nuances of this concept as a legal distinction between people I find both fascinating and disturbing. I have never been comfortable with the press's immunity(ish) wrt libel and defamation.
  7. And does Blagojevich have the same right? Gadaffi?
  8. While I do not disagree with your analysis, it remains that nowhere in the constitution are you or your representatives permitted to make said exception to the rights endowed by God (sic). If you believe that, you should push for an amendment, and another one for tanks.
  9. There you go rewriting the constitution again.
  10. My question is why do people who believe so fervently in the 2nd amendment accept the modification of it as beyond question. If you believe that this right is not to be infringed, how can congress infringe upon it for those American citizens who have completed their punishment for their felonies. Isn't this just the thin edge of the wedge, banning gun ownership for those convicted of securities fraud or selling moonshine or tax fraud (bringing up other constitutional issues)? Why not ban firearms for those convicted of misdemeanors? Where is the justification within the amendment as written?
  11. Yessongs- Yes Live at the Filmore East- The Allman Brothers' Band KISS Alive (who voted for volume II?) Blow Your Face Out- J. Giles Band.
  12. Not just yet, Hawks are going to put up a fight. No they aren't. That last game was a dead cat bounce, nothing more. Of course the Wings will have to get by San Jose first (the series to watch next round).
  13. Maybe if they do, youth will be more discreet about their indiscretions. Throughout most of Man's history the majority of people have lived their lives in villages where everyone remembers their youthful indiscretions. I truly believe that the covering up of such things and the insistence on protecting privacy that has never existed in the past helps create the 'gotcha' mentality society adopts towards all our public figures. We need to accept that if you are on the street, at the game (or the strippers), or on the internet, we are in public; we should behave that way.
  14. What part of "in the public domain" don't people understand.
  15. When was the last time the name "Canada" was synonymous with "military escalation"? Afghanistan, Korea, WWII, WWI. We usually stay the fuck out of Aglo-American adventurism. Sadly the PM felt he needed to send a few planes on this one. War for oil makes no sense to us at all; we sell the stuff. I hope Gadaffi blows up every well in the country.
  16. I am really glad we are in the middle of an election. Not a chance of escalation from us.
  17. If it was at the Paramount I was there too. Best: Muddy Waters at the old Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver. Pine Top Perkins on piano was just icing on the cake. Hon mention: Yes with the Vancouver Philharmonic at the QE theatre. Worst: Ozzy passed out during the third song at GM place in Vancouver, 1995.
  18. I think it's cool, but they should wear head-gear.
  19. Pointing out a conflict of interest is not the same thing as propagating a conspiracy theory.
  20. Clearly this is just the thin edge of the wedge. A ban on actual time travel will surely follow. I wouldn't be surprised if they cracked down on interstellar travel and even astral projection soon enough.
  21. Plagues tend to have less collateral damage to capacity.
  22. You ain't seen nothing yet. Count yourself lucky that you do not have a publicly funded media organization who has come up with a computerized tool where people enter their opinions on various social issues and then have the tool tell you who you should be voting for. Our publicly funded media organization has done just this. 9 out of 10 times, this media tool tells you to vote for preferred candidate the publicly funded media organization supports and it does not matter how many times people complain that this tool is faulty and inaccurate, this publicly funded media organization continues to peddle their tool because they believe there are enough stupid people in this world to buy into their propaganda. I have never been more pissed at the Tories in my life, but the Mothercorp's computer still tells me to vote Conservative.
  23. Seems like a reasonable policy for a government to take. Doesn't say anything about bringing your own. They probably already enacted a similar ban on cigarettes.Does that piss you off?
