This is a good example of why the instructors forum was set up.

Eliminate the Native American Tax Loophole
Andrewwhyte replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
Does this loophole exist due to congressional action alone (and therefore closeable by them alone) or is it due to treaty? People bitch about "freebies" natives get around here, but they are all due to treaty rights and not reversible by the legislature. I work for a native company on native land in the winter. I pay all my taxes just the same; the treaty natives do not. The non-treaty natives pay their taxes the same as the rest of us. -
The US press and the Norwegen massacre
Andrewwhyte replied to Andrewwhyte's topic in Speakers Corner
http://www.opendemocracy.net/magnus-nome/why-let-facts-ruin-story-norwegian-comments-on-us-coverage-of-norway-terror A very good critique of the infotainment industry. I don't think these foibles are limited to the US. -
Does that mean Sigmas are prohibited?

Yay for T-terminal reserve deployments.

Why on earth would you disconnect the RSL?

Had my first taste of baglock today...
Andrewwhyte replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The fact that you are self criticising your decisions and actions indicates that your awareness is at a level that allows in depth recall during high stress events. I have noticed that my actions during malfunctions later in my jumping career have met much less with my approval than those earlier. It has occurred to me that this is primarily due to my ability to recall more critically my actions than before. -
Two canopy out.. to release or not release?

Where does it say this? -
I think the above sums up the problem quite adequately.

"How social media are amplifying customer outrage" - CNN
Andrewwhyte replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Looks like Speaker's Corner stuff to me. -
What bothers me about this story is that this guy doesn't even believe in the FSM. I mean, if he thinks he will partake of the beer volcano just for pretending to believe, well,.. uhm well he might be right I guess.

So, what have we here? Yet another anonymous coward with some vague accusations about some impropriety committed by an unknown at an undisclosed location. Stand up like a man and say what you are saying or crawl back under your rock and shut the fuck up.

So, a fifteen year lead in with 12,000 literes/hectare/anum. Basing diesel at (say) $1.00/litre can anyone with agricultural knowledge compare this revenue to similar land production? Sounds better than grain or corn but I think tree fruit or grape vine land might be a better comparison.

Bad news for pot dealers, good news for Meth and crack merchants. Substitution to drugs that clear the system faster has been the effect of drug screening in the oil patch. By the way, what happens to the people who fail the drug tests? Do they go get jobs now that their welfare is cut off? More likely they resort to crime.

It's not that China doesn't matter; it's that Germany doesn't.

It will not be as big as Point Break. Not because it is not as totally awesome as a five minute freefall, but because we stand on the shoulders of giants. The Giants' names are Bodhi and Agent Utah.

Lowest altitude you've pulled at?
Andrewwhyte replied to blue24's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
On my first mal (jump 35) I couldn't find the reserve handle. Pulled around 600'. Opened my main around 800' at Lost Prairie 1990 during a 25 way clusterfuck that funneled at 3000'. No Fred did not see us. -
Since we're talking about cutting gov't waste.....Dollar coins
Andrewwhyte replied to Iago's topic in Speakers Corner
Minting a coin inflates the money supply by exactly the same amount as printing a note or reserve bank creating a dollar in the ledger of a large commercial bank. The difference is that you can reuse the coin longer than the note. There is no inflationary difference. You ended up with a lot of money in change because you were not used to using coins to buy things. You can and will change your ways. In Canada there was similar bellyaching when the loonie was introduced. Guess what? We adapted. It is probably not a co-incidence that we made the switch during our deficit crises in the 1980's. -
Not sure where in Quebec you are, but if you are in the Montreal or QC areas you have more choice than most Canadians. Check them all out. Many DZs really push the loyalty thing but if you don't work there you can just smile and nod. One thing to remember is that the weather this spring has not been good. If the pros are hurting and it is showing maybe that shouldn't be a big surprise. I know we are all hurting out west.

Maybe your fucked-up, superficial version of man law says to forgive him. Mine says if you marry a chick and have kids with her, you either stay completely or leave outright, there is no inbetween. Wow. Never knew you were such a morally uptight, judgemental busybody. My fucked-up, superficial version of man law says it is none of my business, unlike the perverts he exposes on his show.

Finding a DZ for my daughter
Andrewwhyte replied to shannick08's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
A DZ that will allow a 15 year old will be very hard to find. The equipment manufacturers insist on 18 as the minimum age for liability reasons, but several DZs will allow 16 year olds to go with parental consent. While I have nothing against a 15 year old jumping, I think that a DZ that will be that far outside normal prudence indicates a very close inspection. Find a United States Parachute Association affiliated DZ that will allow 16 year olds and take her there for her next birthday. You should jump as well. It will be a together thing you both will never forget. -
Since we're talking about cutting gov't waste.....Dollar coins
Andrewwhyte replied to Iago's topic in Speakers Corner
I've got a better idea; stop printing dollar bills and go solely to dollar coins like the rest of the world. Printing paper money is way more expensive than minting coins since they don't last very long. This is especially true for high velocity bills like the one. Before you give me some bullshit sentimental argument remember that this discussion is about saving the gov money. -
The blessed shrine of the telephone pole. Christians are morons.
