One year both Jackson and Robertson were running in the primaries. I remember seeing a T-shirt with a circle slash through a picture of each with the caption "No Preachers for President." Sums up my feelings pretty well.

But is the White House relevant? The failure of J. Carter as a president was epitomized (at least in my mind) by his signing international agreements (SALT II) that congress had no intention of implementing. I see Obama in a very similar light right now. He can agree to this tax all he wants, the House will not even entertain it.

How to fly as DZ pilot?
Andrewwhyte replied to shattenjager's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As was mentioned above, if the ink on his commercial license is still wet he will need to start on a Cessna. This generally means working at a small DZ. Not a lot of those in SC. If your friend is serious he should be looking to relocate for next summer. Since many DZs lay pilots off in the fall the spring tends to be when junior guys get hired. I would guess February is a good time to send out resumes. -
Well all taxes can be considered to be robing (sic) someone. But what about this tax? The levels proposed do not appear to be debilitating to the financial industry. As a citizen of a trading nation I find it hard to lose my nut over a .01% tax on currency exchanges. The real issue is that everyone has to be on board or the financial sector will rapidly shift towards the low or no tax region. Since the assets are virtual the cost of moving is miniscule compared to other regions. Are you against this tax is it simply because you are idiologically unable to support any increase in taxation, or because you think this particular tax has flaws?

I would agree with that. However planning on doing your one jump of the day during peak hours you have to realize that it will be busy. The big difference between a turbine DZ and a Cessna one is that the turbine (in most cases) can turn a buck selling jump tickets whereas the Cessna DZ sells jump tickets to create atmosphere and produce instructors.

One of our packers noted the other day, "You know I never really grasped the concept of 'weekenders' until this year. Yup.

No, actually it isn't his right to refuse trade to muslims any more than a restaurant can refuse trade to blacks. He can refuse trade to liberals all he wants, but not to folks on the basis of their religion.

Maybe the guys on the trip were interesting talkative people who just thought you were a dick. Did you ever think of that? -
Brits can now fight back against burglars

Reacting instinctively does not include weapons other than household items that happen to be around. A loaded firearm constitutes premeditation. The question is does a cricket bat or tire iron strategically placed? -

JUMP RUN 1979 - Canada / Florida film
Andrewwhyte replied to TREEZ's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Thanks for that. A bit before my time but nice to remember that people could fly back in the day even with 30 pound rigs and way too much fabric. -
When did you start swooping?
Andrewwhyte replied to FallsLikeABrick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The storm is a perfectly good canopy if you want a 7 cell, if you want the type of advantages that come with a 7 cell. I do not think a 7 cell is a good canopy to learn on if you are going to be using a 9 cell later. If the manufacturers thought that they would use 7 cell canopies for students. They do not, they use mildly elliptical 9 cell canopies. If you are interested in pursuing high performance canopy skills there are better canopies to use than a Storm. I suggested a couple that are appropriate for B license jumpers. If you think my advice about moving to a Katana at around 500 jumps is a bit too aggressive that is your opinion, but it is not shared by many in the industry that I know. Many people think of 500 jumps as the minimum for a cross-braced canopy. I believe that is too aggressive so I suggested another path; moving from a slightly elliptical to a highly elliptical non cross-braced around that time and learn on it before moving to the higher performance cross-braced. If the OP does want to go that way I think the Sabre2 is the best canopy for him to learn on at this stage of his development. Your comment up the page about him learning to skydive before he worried about it indicates to me that you don't consider canopy piloting to be 'real' skydiving. Just like 20 years ago we wanted everyone to spend several hundred jumps doing 4-way before they tried freeflying perhaps you think this fellow needs several hundred jumps doing 4-way before he can start focusing on his canopy work. I respectfully disagree. Instead of Airspeed camps he can spend his money on canopy courses. -
When did you start swooping?
Andrewwhyte replied to FallsLikeABrick's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you want to swoop you should get the storm out of there and get a Sabre 2 or Saphire 2. I don't mean you are going to be swooping it next month, but rather you should give up on the 7 cell thing. Most competitive swoopers will tell you that the real art of swooping is less about "the move" (which in a perfect world will be exactly the same each time) and more about the downwind, crosswind and final turns. Concentrate on flying a perfect pattern in varying conditions for 2-300 jumps and then start a swooping progression still on your mildly eliptical canopy. Around 500 jumps switch to a Katana, Crossfire 2 or Samarai. Swoop the hell out of that for another 500 jumps and then switch to a cross-braced. A lot of people will tell you you can do it faster, and you can, but this is what you should do. Seriously, can the 7 cell. -
Most Tandem jumps in one day by a single instructor
Andrewwhyte replied to pinkskyvan's topic in Tandem Skydiving
I have done 17 in a day out of a Cessna. The trick is not to stop during the back half. I find if I get a break after 8 or 9 the adrenaline wears off and I notice how tired I am actually getting. A good breakfast and a slow steady supply of slow uptake carbs helps as well. -
Whaaat? There must be a way for me to alert Zukerburg. I wonder if I will get FB credits for finding him.

Are Any Skydivers Making $958 USD A Month?
Andrewwhyte replied to PhoenixPhive's topic in Speakers Corner
Is that a federal rate? Kind of senseless to have a federal rate. You will not be inside in many parts of the country for that much money, let alone eat. Minimal clothing in Montana chews up a bit more than in Florida etc. -

Agnostics, why don't you choose to (dis)believe?

Perfect! Here we have a thread about people being uncertain or not giving a shit and even this the good peeps of Speakers Corner can reduce to a spitting match. -
Agnostics, why don't you choose to (dis)believe?
Andrewwhyte replied to captain_stan's topic in Speakers Corner
Agnostics are to Atheists what Unitarians are to the rest of the theists; they (dis)believe, but they don't (dis)believe in much. -
I was raised a Christian and continued with my faith into my early twenties. I was firmly of the belief that my morals came directly from my faith and was puzzled about the source of atheists' morals. My apostasy arose slowly as I formed my worldview through my belief in the value of logic and reason. I was firmly in the agnostic (no evidence, no decision) camp when I was challenged during one of my frequent pilgrimages to that cathedral of wisdom, the university pub. My friend introduced me to the Easter bunny argument. Forcing me to agree that I had no hard evidence either way on the existence of the Easter bunny, he challenged me to state my lack of a conclusion as to the Easter bunny's existence. I was an atheist within days. Richard Dawkins uses the magic teapot theory to similar effect.
