Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
Andrewwhyte replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Although no one in the city will say it out loud, they really don't give a rat's ass whether the people in the county are happy or not. -
I see no problem with this as long as people are not required to profess such beliefs in order to drive a car. I hope "Allah Akbar," "We believe in the Thetans," "touched by his noodly apppendage," or other such sayings are also allowed.

They hate us because we're free.

Outside video is almost gone at our dz without the use of robots. What we really need is a plane landing robot.

I'm, curious, but haven't looked this up: How does Canada's contribution compare to, say, Scandinavian countries which have roughly similar climates, economies and standards of living? As John said above population density is a large contributing factor. Furthermore I think it is a misnomer to suggest that the weather in Scandinavia is much like Canada's. Large parts of Denmark and Norway are like Vancouver with much less like Alberta. Sweden and Finland are a bit colder but still nowhere near the same. Greenland is perhaps a bit better comparison. While it is true that both regions' populations tend to crowd around the moderate bits (Toronto and Vancouver in Canada) the proportion of population and particularly economic activity that occurs within the area under the continental air mass and, more particularly, the Arctic air mass is much higher in Canada. Most of Canada has a climate like Siberia. Comparing their energy consumption per capita (and correcting for income) would be more appropriate.

Nothing is going to get any better for you until you stop wondering who is going to make it better. You want technology to drive society foreward, well, YOU"RE THE FREAKING ENGINEER! The system is rigged against you, but don't let that stop you, you still gotta play if you want to win. It doesn't sound like you are getting any fulfillment from your job. Sounds like you need to have a good hard think about what will. If going to work every day for the man, not taking any risks and still having a constantly improving economic situation is what you are looking for you are probably shit out of luck. From my experience the engineers who earn "what they are worth" either go out on their own or go get an MBA and actually become indispensable to the man by being able to take ideas and turn them into finished projects. Most North American workers are not only getting what they are worth, but considerably more. The rest of the world is imposing corrective action on us right now. We can become worth more or accept less. One thing we cannot have is 1985-2008 false prosperity that was achieved on the back of our credit cards- not gonna happen.

Sounds like they need to have a "Beech-18" boogie. -
Didn't you already ask this question elsewhere? God (sic) Save the Queen.

We made our decision based on an underutilized aircraft. We were in our first year with an otter. Minimums are one thing, full aircraft are another. The incremental cost of an Otter passenger once the mins are met is very low. Similarly incremental costs on the tandem gear is low in Canada where our short intense season leads to relatively low annual numbers on the gear (you need a lot of gear to use on July/August weekends, the rest of the time you have more than you need). Unfortunately most of the coupon holders waited until the next year. The Otter crash in Georgia deprived us of our plane so we ended up doing most of them in a regime where we were a little short of airpower. That is the problem with cutting your margins too tight; the unexpected can, and often does, tip the balance. I think it is incorrect to put Groupon in the same class as Skyride. Skyride does not provide new business. It attaches itself to those who were already looking for skydiving. Groupon attaches itself to those who are looking for 'deals on all kinds of stuff.' As I said above we did tap into a demographic we are not particularly successful at otherwise. As far as the customers not getting a good product, that certainly did not happen at our place. They were given the same priority as any other tandem. Usually I had no idea whether I had a Groupon customer or not. The reason it did not work out in the end was because the margins were simply too tight. The other pitfall is the reiterative effect as customers who are coming skydiving regardless began looking for the deal. This last reason I believe is why the model will not work in most markets.

As Rob said earlier it depends on the operations manual. This is another of the myriad of reasons most turbine operators opt to use US registered aircraft in Canada under NAFTA certificates.

Well taking into account every factor would be very difficult as is the case with most statistical analysis. However I think the big problem in getting any info would be the lack of credible numbers on jumps made. In UK these numbers are quite good, but in US nearly impossible as operators tend not to give up info about their business. The US- UK comparison would be the most interesting as The USPA has some of the most relaxed rules of developed skydiving organizations while the BPA is among if not the most restrictive.

Would you ever through a student out without a altimiter
Andrewwhyte replied to aarco's topic in Instructors
That is correct, they are no longer required for tandem students. According to who, The manufacturers or USPA? -
The real problem is in the determination of who is a covered person. If it is done through the courts with all rights of Miranda and Habeas Corpus being respected prior to the said determination that is one thing. Given the behavior of the US government after 9-11 I don't think that is how it is going to shake out.

We did a Groupon offering last year. It was good for us TMs (more volume) but not so much for the DZ. On the plus side it did bring in new demographics (particularly young South Asian and Middle Eastern immigrants) but had a very low video uptake and lower than normal retention rate. More problematic was the calls all this year asking when we were going to do the next one; we had become our own main competitor. We will not be doing it again.

Unfortunately Obama has been as useless in protecting the US constitution as his predecessor. I remember shortly after 9-11 Bush made a speech in which he told the country that the way the evildoers would win would be if America stopped being free as a response. I think this bill may be Al Qaeda's best blow yet. The creation of the Dept of Homeland Security, and warrantless wiretaps give it a good run though. Reagan used to talk of America being the "shining city on the hill." He didn't mean it in terms of military superiority or wealth, he meant it in terms of freedom. America has for 200 years been a beacon, showing the world that individual freedoms are worth the price. Yes the bad guys enjoy them as well, but when you protect freedom for all you grow and prosper as a people. It breaks my heart to see America abandon their soul. It also fills me with trepidation for the future.

It still looks like law enforcement by the US military to me.

Would Chelsea Clinton's first foray into broadcast journalism be on the the national stage were she not born to it?

Children. Muslims eat children. Or is that Jews? It's so hard to keep up.

Wow, thanks for the education. It really is that simple. I can't understand for the life of me why Germany is so queezy about printing wheelbarrows full of money if has always worked out so well in the past. -

I bet she wishes she had walked away. What do you think that home is worth today as a proportion of what she borrowed? -
Static electricity can cause a spark. However a spark will not cause kerosine to explode at fueling temps. I agree the ground wire should be used just because it is there, but it is not like it's gas.
