Where you there for the opening cerimonies of nationals? Roger totally made a joke at his own expense. Most got it. it wsa pretty funny.... (the kool-aide comment made me think of that, but it wasn't related). He actually made two jokes, one about the tee shirts too. pretty funny stuff.

because on regular 0-3cfm fabric you will get the same approximate performance as a z-po canopy when the 0-3cfm fabric is unused. that's why the 0-3cfm fabric flares pretty decently when new, but as you put jumps on it it starts to degrade, making the landings less than desirable. on the PD-190 make sure you put a good pack job on them, they, like the old sabres, will spank you if you're not careful.
-
so what you are saying is that a canopy is not "diving" unless you're pointed straight at the ground? so a carving turn is not actaully diving the canopy? interesting.

relax your arch. I know it sounds easy, but if you went through AFF, you were told ARCH ARCH AAAAARRRCCCHHHHH. that gets built into your skydiving and its hard to get rid of, instead of falling witha real hard arch, relax into the air, you will fall slower. if all else fails, you can buy sleeves to go over your arms that create drag, but I dont' recommend that, and as someone else already said, a tee over your jump suit also works (watch the handles). also, when trying to slow fall, you want to de-arch in your spin, not necissarily "stick you bum up", your chest should be caved in shoulders to hips, in fact, your pelvis will still be lower.

wait till that hurricane in the golf gets to ya....

or to fruit loop you at break off altitude for fun....

if you truely are skydiving at pepperell, there are other DZ's not to far form you -- Lebanon maine, Orange Mass, Lincoln RI, Addison VT, Albany NY, Ellington CT. Don't think you are limited.
-
its true -- when I"m doing back to back loads, 12 jumps per day Im having No fun at all....
-
sold them? you mean they're removable?
-
why that number?

Im sitting here at work, been here since 6am, nice full moon driving in this morning though. Hey, if you're in New England, better get that AFF done this month, but you already knew the weather up there in Ocotber usually is windy (I learned in Sept/Oct, upstate NY - near VT, so I had to sit many days while it was sunny with the wind blowing 30 mph)

there were like a dozen caribou parked at Cape May airport in NJ, one of them used to be a jump ship, I heard they could be retrofitted with turbine's. that would be a pretty decent jump ship. there's two parked right behind work here, too (along with a DC-3, adn a B-17 during the winter)

FWIW, they are both stainless steel -- and stainless on stainless doesn't work very well -- I've tried to take apart many a machine that was galled together using the same grade of stainless. It would be possible to do that. The only other thing I can think of is the bar in the mock up at SDC was about 3" lower than it should have been, since I exit from inside the plane 95% of the time, I was always fighting with that thing so it may have happened then, too.

FWIW, from PD's flight characteristics book on the Velocity..... Coming out of the dive: The radius of the Velocity’s natural pull out arc is much larger than that of the Stiletto, whether a riser or a toggle initiated the turn that started the dive. The difference will be even more noticeable if you’re downsizing. Like most canopies, the Velocity will not pull out into level flight completely unless some brakes are applied. (It will pull out to a flight path that is slightly flatter than the normal full glide angle, but will not as flatten out as much as the Stiletto.)

the closing pin is not nicked or damaged, just the grommet. I'll probably get it fixed before Im up at CK's again, otherwise I'd show you. I noticed it when the flaps were closed, so yes it is the top one.
-
You know skydiving couples don't break up... you just lose your turn.
-
any one use one of these "tools" (you know the metal rod with the spectra cord on it) to close your own rig, or do you pack for others and use one? I was looking at my rig the other day and noticed some nics in the grommet of the closing flap. Nothing to get excited about right now, but I'm gonna have to get it replaced because I don't want friction on the pin or a frayed closing loop. Anyway, I'm thinking that the stainless tool vs. the stainless grommet isn't doing my grommet any good. Has anyone else noticed this? (OK, everyone go look at the main closing grommet now). I know the d-bag grommets get beat up from smacking against each other on deployment, but I can't think of anything else that would cause the main flap grommet to get marked up like it is.

shoot I know a guy who had a cut-away three days in a row. He hired a packer after that (no, it wasn't me!

you realize that he is NOT the only one that does that...right? it's amazing the strides one will go to for self promotion. does Mr. Cummings manufacture anything that is his own design, or does he simply rebuild "used" equipment" and put the gigantic "CUMMINGS" logo on it? What's the issue with that, advertising is not a bad thing, you act like it's unethical or something. Not that I would buy a thing from him, I'm not fond of the way he does business, but to his credit, he did get to jump into NYC and is one of the few to have done that, if he wants to put his business name on his canopy, what's the big deal?
-
Yes they have, and I believe if you ask the test pilots, they will tell you a little bump may be needed to help plane the canopy out. But what do I know.
-
competitive maybe, but what is winning out there? canopies that are designed with a "negative" recovery arc -- right? Apparently there isn't enough inefficeiency caused by needing a bump on the brakes or rear riser input to plane those puppies out.

got this in my email today, thought I'd share. "DO NOT FORGET" I sat in a movie theater watching "Schindler's List," asked myself, "Why didn't the Jews fight back?" Now I know why. I sat in a movie theater, watching "Pearl Harbor" and asked myself, "Why weren't we prepared?" Now I know why. Civilized people cannot fathom, much less predict, the actions of evil people. On September 11, dozens of capable airplane passengers allowed themselves to be overpowered by a handful of poorly armed terrorists because they did not comprehend the depth of hatred that motivated their captors. On September 11, thousands of innocent people were murdered because too many Americans naively reject the reality that some nations are dedicated to the dominance of others. Many political pundits, pacifists and media personnel want us to forget the carnage. They say we must focus on the bravery of the rescuers and ignore the cowardice of the killers. They implore us to understand the motivation of the perpetrators. Major television stations have announced they will assist the healing process by not replaying devastating footage of the planes crashing into the Twin Towers. I will not be manipulated. I will not pretend to understand. I will not forget. I will not forget the liberal media who abused freedom of the press to kick our country when it was vulnerable and hurting. I will not forget that CBS anchor Dan Rather preceded President Bush's address to the nation with the snide remark, "No matter how you feel about him, he is still our president." I will not forget that ABC TV anchor Peter Jennings questioned President Bush's motives for not returning immediately to Washington, DC and commented, "We're all pretty skeptical and cynical about Washington." And I will not forget that ABC's Mark Halperin warned if reporters weren't informed of every little detail of this war, they aren't "likely -- nor should they be expected -- to show deference." I will not isolate myself from my fellow Americans by pretending an attack on the USS Cole in Yemen was not an attack on the United States of America. I will not forget the Clinton administration equipped Islamic terrorists and their supporters with the world's most sophisticated telecommunications equipment and encryption technology, thereby compromising America's ability to trace terrorist radio, cell phone, land lines, faxes and modem communications. I will not be appeased with pointless, quick retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration. I will not be comforted by "feel-good, do nothing" regulations like the silly "Have your bags been under your control?" question at the airport. I will not be influenced by so called,"antiwar demonstrators" who exploit the right of expression to chant anti-American obscenities. I will not forget the moral victory handed the North Vietnamese by American war protesters who reviled and spat upon the returning soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines. I will not be softened by the wishful thinking of pacifists who chose reassurance over reality. I will embrace the wise words of Prime Minister Tony Blair who told Labor Party conference, "They have no moral inhibition on the slaughter of the innocent. If they could have murdered not 7,000 but 70,000, does anyone doubt they would have done so and rejoiced in it? There is no compromise possible with such people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding with such terror. Just a choice: defeat it or be defeated by it. And defeat it we must!" I will force myself to: -hear the weeping -feel the helplessness -imagine the terror -sense the panic -smell the burning flesh - experience the loss - remember the hatred. I sat in a movie theater, watching "Private Ryan" and asked myself, "Where did they find the courage?" Now I know. We have no choice. Living without liberty is not living. -- Ed Evans, MGySgt., USMC (Ret.) Not as lean, Not as mean, But still a Marine.

I don't climb, but I know there are some really good schools in both NH, and in Keene, NY (near Lake Placid, NY).... if you really want to get the heart beating, try ice climbing, that's nuts.
