Well, I just updates my years in sport, because it's not "less than" anymore, and it is kinda pointless to worry about a month here and there. However, while "plus" is numeric, it's not a number. Don't update your profile if you want is to stay there. Just an FYI. I'm off to bed. Maybe I can count the sheeple I dealt with today to fall asleep ps - yeah, I'm just missing that extra "one," yeah, that's it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

This is why I love Texans: Even if I had midgets to share, I wouldn't have Spock ears.... "Leia hair" maybe, but no ears. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

So do + < and > count as numbers? otherwise, sunnyone, well... witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Well, from one of most "low time locals" here on dz.com, I have to say it's not even a question. My first home dz had some real BS issues with a rival just down the road (maybe fifteen minutes). I stayed out of it. If one told me I had to choose them or never come back, I would've had some very colorful and unique word combinations for them. If I were you, I'd miss the caravan, but to hell with all that garbage. Any DZO that thinks you paying your way onto his loads is him "helping you get batter" has some serious issues to think about. He is providing you a service just like any other fun jumper. If he wants to put conditions on it, he shouldn't be surprised when he is "helping out" one less jumper. I'm glad you stuck by your friends, and sorry this crap came to your doorstep. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

People are forgetting something. Some states don't allow out of state officers to carry, even while on official business without a specific exemption. (California, New Jersey, and Hawaii come to mind) If someone is going to say that we have to respect states' rights to deny non residents the ability to carry legally, how can they argue that we don't have to respect states' rights to deny out of state officers? MarkM, this is more specifically to your question: I don't know whether or not all states allow officers to carry while off duty. I do know, however, that even if all states allow off duty carry, individual departments have the final decision. Any department may deny its officers the right to carry concealed while off duty (though some state level case law points in the other direction, this is generally the case). Also, in states without preemption laws, some counties or municipalities outlaw all carry of handguns (some even outlaw ownership of handguns). That means no one may carry there except officers of that jurisdiction and officers of that state on state business. Some people state that a LEO is a LEO 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is not always the case. When a LEO is working off duty out of uniform (such as body guards or security), he is subject to a very different set of rules. So, in total, no, not every state grants that right to LEOs, LEO off duty carry is not universal, and where is does exist it is likely to be different in the next jurisdiction. (you know what, that summation reminds me a great deal of how I would describe Right To Carry laws across the US...) edit to add source of quote witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

There is no requirement for state/county/local LEOs to intervene beyond that of Joe Citizen when LEOs are travelling out of state, unless for official business. If I am not correct in this, then there are text books to be corrected, as well. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

and here we come to the crux of your argument. (A) Police are not "super citizens" who deserve more rights. Courts have decided that police cannot be granted rights that citizens do not have (concealed carry while banned for all others). (B) Bullshit. You've earned the right to wear the badge. And I thank you for it. I hope to do the same. However, you have not earned more rights that anyone born here. (C) Would you deny that places like Frontsite and Guncite and Thunder Ranch and Black Water provide better training than the average officer receives? If so, why do the people who train LEOs go there to learn? (D) There are good people and there are bad people, and some people make mistakes. Would you argue that every use of 'people' in the previous sentence can be replaces with 'LEOs?' (E) Are you now arguing the usefulness of CCW? If not, what relevance does providing examples of foolishness or mistakes by CCW holders? Do you not think there are many readily available sources for foolishness or mistakes by LEOs? You're wrong. He shouldn't. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

OK, no one argues that cops shouldn't carry while on the job, right? When an LEO are in another state on official business (extradition, prisoner transfer, etc), he should be allowed to carry. However, when you are off duty, what make you more deserving than the next guy to carry a firearm. Now, normally I am 100% against requiring justification to exercise a right, but I really want to know why you think LEOs should be able to carry and Joe Citizen shouldn't. What's the difference? Cops shouldn't have more rights that citizens. Legally, they have far fewer. Why should firearms be different? edit: don't forget, I know many citizens with far better training than most LEOs receive, and I know (have met) many citizens who are far better practical pressure shooters than most LEOs. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

If I had my choice, it'd be something Jimmy Buffett, or maybe a beachy country tune, like "Hotter When the Sun Goes Down" Unfortunately, if I look at it realistically, right now it's got to be: "My Own Worst Enemy" by Lit. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I know exactly what I said. I respect the collective group of citizens who choose to serve in the armed forces. However, that doesn't change the fact that of the jumpers that came out of Annapolis, several deserve the words I used and more. Putting on a uniform doesn't make you immune to criticism, particularly when you are still in an academic setting and have yet to serve. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

You are referring to use of the Subjunctive Mood when relating to unreal events. Yes, I learned about that, and many other facets of grammar in the English language. However, it is not taught. If I were a product of the public school system, rather than a product of my own desire, I still wouldn't know what you are talking about. I didn't learn in in K through 12, and I didn't learn it in four years at a state flagship university. I learned it because I chose to study another language in depth, even before my vocabulary was sufficient to express myself. Back to the Subjunctive Mood in unreal events. It has fallen out of use, near completely. I know if it, and I recognize it, but as far as use in practical language, it is dying a slow but sure death. It is however, still accepted, based on preference. In that sense, it is not something to be corrected so much as debated. I agreed with pajarito based on experience working with/for english professors at university. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

All I know is that my original home DZ was the closest one to the US Naval Academy. We had some real pieces of shit coming out of Annapolis and jumping on the taxpayer's dime. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Ignorance is a singular noun (as opposed to plural), so "was" is the correct verb. Maybe people use "were" because of the "s" sound at the end, but it is incorrect. Replace it with drunkenness, or any other condition. (Ignorance is the state or condition of being ignorant) You wouldn't say "I wish drunkenness were painful," would you? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

The article doesn't address whether or not the felon was resisting after the officers took him to the ground. I've seen instances where everything seems to be kosher, then you get within arms reach to cuff him, and it all goes to shit because he decided suddenly that he really doesn't want to go to jail. When officers are arresting a suspect, they have to do everything they can to ensure their own safety, and thereby the suspect's own safety. If you're close enough to cuff him, he's close enough to grab your gun, or your pepper spray, or whatever else is on your belt. That's why you have to do everything 100%. Sometimes that makes the suspect fight back, sometimes he just planned on fighting anyway. Bottom line is when you're laying on a suspect who isn't cuffed, anything other than him lying there limp is serious resistance. Again, like I said to Tink, your definition of surrendered is probably different from that of a cop. Just because you stopped running doesn't mean you are no longer a potential threat. And every potential threat must be addressed as a real threat by police officers. A suspect kneeling on the ground with his arms spread out would probably qualify as surrendered in your book. To a cop, however, that's just not good enough. If you refuse to lie down, face down, on the ground, you are resisting, and some amount of force is necessary to make you lie down. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

This is not true. The truth is the truth, and is not skwed just because someone else claims their version is what really happened. That is the gray fallacy. Two people are shown a piece of paper, one says it's white, the other says it's black. Having not seen the paper, by the logic above, you must believe it is gray. However, this is not true. The paper is white, and the other person was lying. Don't just assume that the truth is somewhere in the middle. (yeah, I'm bitching but I have cause; I got screwed by a manager because the B%^&* used that logic, instead of checking to see what actually happened) Hell, just look at what happened to phillykev. She said he did horrible things. He said he didn't do any of it. With no thought whatsoever, they assume he did bad things. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Too many people don't know the difference between what it looks like and what it is. It's enjoyable to show them just how little they know, and it usually gets them to shut up for a while. Anyone who really cares can take a look at police training manuals. Most of them are public record. If you don't like what they teach, change it. Don't just bitch abuot it when cops use what they were taught. Especially when no one has a better idea. (besides, watching a delay whiner crash wouldn't be fun, putting htem in a practice ATC tower, now that would be fun) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Right, because pinching someone is so easy while you're trying to control his arms, make sure you don't get shot or stabbed, and there's no chance you're finger/hand/wrist will be broken sticking it in there. When arm holds and joint locks are not working, you really think pinching someone is the answer? Be realistic. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Well, I was a college intern with precisely zero experience. It was an effective teaching tool though (teaching just how hard it is for a cop to look 'right'). Hell, right now I still don't know what a "horse bite" is. Nothing is more fun than putting police brutality whiners through a Shoot-Don't Shoot simulator. They end up killing everyone. Same thing with physical force simulations. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
