    If it is about police abuse of power, stop talking about my guns and telling me I have to justify them. Diallo wasn't executed, he was shot by officers because he resembled a wanted violent felon, and when confronted, reached for something dark without communicating to the officers. (When I reach for my wallet, I say "wallet...wallet...wallet...wallet...") Let's define our terms, maybe that will help. Execute (in terms of death) means to carry out a death sentence, to put to death in accordance with a judicial order, etc. It implies to danger, no questions left, and being calm (includes criminal executions, simply remove judicial). Thanks, Kev, I would have said the exact same thing. (thouh I might've used "bathtubs, just because of the thread so far...) To Kallend: there is a very large difference between executing a person and shooting them in self defense. There's a reason why battered wives can use all force necessary to escape a beating, but why smothering him in his sleep, or poisoning his next meal are not acceptable. Also, I don't own a gun to "have fun with it." I don't have the money or the time right now.     Do you think that everytime deadly force is used, the person who does so does it as the first option? If not, I truly resent you implying that. One of the men I admire most in this world had to use dealy force in the line of duty. You impunge him, every other shooter who didn't have a choice, and every armed man, and it is not appreciated. It is a sign of the circumstances, not the man, when deadly force is required. The poorer men use it when it might not have been required, but don't let that translate into thinking that only the lower quality of men will or have used it.     Where are you getting that? There are a lot of justified/necessary/medal winning police shootings every year. You only hear about the bad ones though. point 2and 3: like you said, sometimes running just isn't an available option. Remember, the vast majority of permit holders have the idea "It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it."     I would suggest a flat sales tax, with food only exemptions for the most destitute, and a higher tax rate for certain "luxury items." You think big ticket items would drop? Are you kidding? These people already pay 100,000 for their cars, and own several. I doubt they'd care much about sales tax. One does have to wonder what would happen to all the things businesses to do avoid paying the govt (sponsoring teams, donating to charities, etc).     Depends on what he swings and where I am. If I'm in line, with people behind me, and he swings something heavy at me like a club, I have to act to defend myself. If I can run, that's a good choice sometimes. Avoiding it all together is even better. Sometimes those aren't options. Shooting someone not in control of their actions is sometimes the only option you have. It's not one anybody likes, but there's a reason even good cops carry guns, right? Well, I appreciate that you are sensible enough to accept that people deserve the best tools available. If removing myself from the threat without exposing anyone else to it is an option, most people would take it in a heartbeat. I would. But a guy charging me in a crowded area from not far away doesn't leave me a whole lot of options.     I could argue that gun manufacturing leads to confiscation. Afterall, the manufacturing came first right? Then the confiscation? Tying the registration with the confiscation it a stretch in the USA. Were you not paying attention? He said "NEW YORK CITY, WASHINGTON D.C., CALIFORNIA" and so on. It has been tried here in the US, and it has gone according to (gun banners') plan.
