  1. Hi John, And, a local nutjob was also endorsed by Trump: Democrat Gluesenkamp Perez flips Washington’s 3rd District - oregonlive.com Trump was able to get rid of a fairly moderate GOP CongressCritter only to have it backfire on him. Jerry Baumchen
  2. Hi Ken, This is why I think people are going for Ranked Choice Voting. I think it is an idea whose time has come. Jerry Baumchen
  3. Hi folks, Since the 2022 mid-terms are behind us [ well, a few to be decided but all votes have been cast ], we have been discussing Trump running again, Biden running again, I thought it would be better to simply start a new thread on the topic. So, here we go: Former Speaker Paul Ryan . . . said Trump is causing political problems for Republicans and dragging down the party’s candidates. Paul Ryan: Republicans are suffering from ‘Trump hangover’ | The Hill IMO this is just the beginning of Ryan's quest for the office. Jerry Baumchen
  4. Hi Ken, A few years ago, my son & I were talking about presidents. We both agreed that we would like to have Barak Obama as a neighbor on one side & Geo. W. Bush as a neighbor on the other side. It would make for some great BBQ discussions. Jerry Baumchen
  5. Hi folks, In the 1920's, a failed painter, military veteran stood up in a beer hall in Munich, Germany & started spouting off. This lead to the Third Reich and the most devastating event of the 20th century, World War II. Since I do not speak German, the little that I have heard of his speeches, I cannot grasp. However, I have read many, many times that he was a great orator & could really get a crowd worked up. In the evening of 23 Oct 1964, while driving from Portland, OR to Richland, WA to go to a parachute contest, I heard The Speech on the radio. Once it was concluded, you just wanted to stop the car, get out & salute the nearest moon, star, whatever. It was truly arousing. IMO The Speech is what lead to the Reagan Presidency. In his prior life, Reagan was a committed Democrat; he was also a former president of the Screen Actor's Guild, and a product of the Great Depression. In 1981, there was a fair amount of what Reagan stood for that I agreed with. However, IMO he was trying to change 40+ yrs of legislation within 4 yrs; simply cannot be accomplished. I've often thought of Ronald Reagan as an interesting person. He was a great speaker when he had a script; he could get an audience applauding like never before. However, the other side of him came out during his press conferences. Here, he was a subdued person with almost no authority in his voice. This link will take you to the 27 Oct 64 version of The Speech. IMO reading it fails to instill in one the power that it had, you really needed to hear it. A Time for Choosing Speech, October 27, 1964 | Ronald Reagan (reaganlibrary.gov) My reason for posting this is because of how Donald Trump has an amazing ability to get his base up & rallying for him. A lot of similarities to Reagan. Thoughts? Jerry Baumchen
  6. Hi Ken, Maybe Trump will become a modern day Harold Stassen: his name became most identified with his status as a perennial candidate. Harold Stassen - Wikipedia Some of them just cannot leave the limelight. I am not at a point where I agree with you; but, you do make a compelling argument. Jerry Baumchen
  7. Hi Bill, Re: do you feel the same about Nancy No, I do not. While she may be a hard-core Democrat, she is not two-faced & has IMO ethics that she works & lives by. I cannot say the same for McCarthy. Jerry Baumchen
  8. Hi Ken, Hey, thanks for the tip. Sounds like a good alternative. Jerry Baumchen
  9. Hi heels, As I continue to say: They eat their own. Jerry Baumchen
  10. Hi Joe, You may remember that back in 2020, just after the NH Primary, I posted that Joe Biden should pack up his tent and disappear into the sunset. I still would prefer that he not run again. However, when I consider who his opponent(s) might be in 2024 [ should he get the nomination ], I'll damn sure vote for him again. Re: his speech impediments I think one of his greatest personal accomplishments has been how he has overcome a stutter that he had as a youth. And, for anyone to use his speech impediments against him, IMO is right on par with: You sure have an ugly wife. Jerry Baumchen PS) Since airdvr alluded to my running for POTUS, what do people think of: Jerry for the Job Sounds kinda catchy to me.
  11. Hi airdvr, Is Joe Biden? Jerry Baumchen PS) Let's face it; you got nothing.
  12. Hi airdvr, I'm 82, so what? Jerry Baumchen
  13. Hi Keith, While reading this morning's newspaper, there was an article by Jennifer Rubin of WaPo with the headline: Trump's Decline Offers Reason for Biden to Bow Out. I do not subscribe to WaPo so I cannot add a link to the article; although, the headline seems to say it all. Re: Think the RNC will have a meeting to develop a distancing from Trump strategy? If they don't they may go the way of the dinosaurs. I am hopeful. With two-faced, no ethics Kevin McCarthy as Speaker, I am not so hopeful. When I joined the Republican Party in the late 60's, they did not care about abortions, they did care about non-balanced budgets, they did not care about what consenting adults did in their bedrooms, etc, etc. They were a party of small gov't. That is not the Republican Party, as we know it today. What tipped the scales for me to switch parties was LBJ's Great Society; everything for everyone. But, no way to pay for it. Jerry Baumchen
  14. Hi folks, From FOX News no less: “There is a broader issue, and think about this: We have the worst inflation in four decades, the worst collapse in real wages in 40 years, the worst crime wave since the 1990s, the worst border crisis in U.S. history, we have Joe Biden, who is the least popular president since Harry Truman, since presidential polling happened, and there wasn’t a red wave,” Also: voters have left, have indicted the Republican Party.” Fox News commentator describes midterms as ‘searing indictment’ for GOP | The Hill As the late Jackie Gleason would say: How sweet it is. Jerry Baumchen
  15. Hi John, As I have been saying for years: The American electorate is uninformed and prefers to stay that way. Jerry Baumchen PS) IMO it was the killing of Roe v Wade that prevented the so-called Red Wave. There is a point where even a Republican woman is fed up.
  16. Hi Wendy, Re: religion is a placeholder for all the stuff that seems to be out there, that we don't yet understand As my college Philosophy instructor said, 'If God did not exist, mankind would create him.' Mankind wants to have answers, so they made up some. Also, a very nice post on your thoughts. Jerry Baumchen
  17. Hi Ken, Since I qualify, can I join your club? Jerry Baumchen
  18. Hi airdvr, And, your buddy Trump lives in a fantasy world. Also, I completely disagree with your rather biased premise. Prove it! I would prefer that he not run again, just not because of your comments. Jerry Baumchewn
  19. Hi Wendy, I'm with you; only I think it is still a dream to yet come true. However, with a real push in many places in this country for Ranked Choice Voting, it might get here sooner than we think. Jerry Baumchen PS) Here is an article that Robert Yoder [ ryoder ] posted recently; it give me hope: Nevada Question 3: Ranked-choice voting is on the ballot in Nevada - Vox
  20. Hi Robert, I like it also. Anything [ short of a dictatorship ] that gets rid of the political parties in this country, I'm in support of. It is a little different than Ranked Choice Voting with the top 5 going into the Gen Election. Here in Oregon, there have been attempts similar to this; but, each time, both political parties come out strongly against any changes. Time for the dinosaurs to go into the sunset. Jerry Baumchen PS) IMO our current Primary System kills off the moderates. IMO that is not a good thing.
  21. Hi 904, I have been telling people to do this for years. Good for you. Jerry Baumchen
  22. Hi Rob, Actually, once the materials are on the cutting table, it makes little difference for production sewers whether the D-bag is a J-1 or J-10 size. Jerry Baumchen
  23. Hi folks, Ever since the infamous Joe Arpaio, Arizona, this is sort of getting out of hand: In Washington, right-wing sheriff candidates believe their power exceeds the federal government - OPB Therefore, should all Heads of LEO Organizations be elected [ such as a sheriff ] or appointed [ such as a chief of police ]? Thoughts? Jerry Baumchen
  24. Hi airdvr, How is being in the hospital since he was injured considered 'odd behavior?' Quit with the Trump-style BS & be specific; if you actually can. Jerry Baumchen
