Hi Keith ( again ), Re: Technology, Energy, Space, etc. I'm admittedly biased, but IMO one of the best things one can do is to get their kid(s) a decent STEM education.* Then sit back and see what happens. Jerry Baumchen * Mine got degrees in Graphic Arts ( now a director of a Japanese hi-tech company ) and law ( now works for the Oregon Dep't of Justice ) - in today's money, both make far, far more than I ever did. Watch them soar!

Hi Keith, Re: It's a great time to be alive It always is; well, unless one lives in the slums of Brazil or somewhere similar. My maternal grandmother*, born in 1879 - died 1967, saw a lot of technology develop during her time here. From no electricity, using an outhouse to seeing men in space. My kid's will probably think the same about me. Of course, we now wonder how anything got done without a smartphone. Jerry Baumchen * She is still the most influential person in my life.

How to encourage tax cheating by the very wealthy
JerryBaumchen replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Hi murps, Re: what exactly is a small business Back in the 60's, American Motors, convinced the federal gov't ( SBA ) that since they were the smallest US automaker, they should be categorized as a small business. Because of this, many US gov't agencies drove American Motor's cars for quote a few years; they could get a 6% edge on their bids due to being the only US automaker that was a small business. How to encourage tax cheating by the very wealthy
JerryBaumchen replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Hi Wendy, In the 1986 tax legislation overhaul bill, Sen Bob Packwood (R-OR), head of the Senate committee writing the legislation, put in just a couple of lines to benefit a campaign donator. She was a wealthy Texan, who benefitted to the tune of about $500,000 because of this. She was the only person in the US who benefitted from it. Jerry Baumchen -

Hi Whuffo, Exactly what regulations are you referring to? Please be specific. Jerry Baumchen PS) The lanyard is not part of the TSO-authorization of the Vector. TSO C23(b) makes no mention of any such item. -

JerryBaumchen replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
Hi Keith, Re: I sit on several veterans committees and, 1) many of us just learned of this ourselves not long ago and it angered us, and 2) we're working with the VA, DoD and DHS to get the message out in a formal process. Good for you; and, bless your pea-picking little heart. Jerry Baumchen -

JerryBaumchen replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
Hi Sky, Re: Using people for the military, breaking them and then deporting them cause they are broken comes across as very American. We are not all like that. And, it does seem as though the Biden Admin is not either. Jerry Baumchen -

Hi Tony, And another example: During the four years of his Academy term, Davis was racially isolated by his White classmates, few of whom spoke to him outside the line of duty. He never had a roommate. He ate by himself. His classmates hoped that this would drive him out of the Academy. The "silent treatment" had the opposite effect. It made Davis more determined to graduate. Benjamin O. Davis Jr. - Wikipedia Jerry Baumchen
