Hi folks, Being stupid has consequences: A Canby restaurant that had its liquor license suspended . . . for “not following public health social distancing and face covering requirements” ‘We deserved it,’ says Canby restaurant owner whose liquor license was suspended by OLCC - oregonlive.com Jerry Baumchen

Hi Robert, Oregon ( a state that I consider on the leading edge of many issues ) got rid of it back in 1964. Only to have it brought back sometime ( I think ) in the late 70's/early 80's. Jerry Baumchen

Hi folks, Where this is a will, there is a way: Socially distanced dining in a bubble above Seattle - BBC News A little pricy; but, maybe just worth it in these most unusual times. Jerry Baumchen

Hi folks, I call this progress in the right direction: Virginia lawmakers vote to abolish state's death penalty - BBC News Jerry Baumchen

Hi Sky, And it usually begins somewhat like this: 'I'm not a racist, but . . . . ' Jerry Baumchen

Hi Bill, Re: 'Watch a child meet another child of a different race for the first time - they will stare at them, go silent, perhaps even try to touch their hair or face' 'Same thing if they have a birthmark, or are missing a limb or something' I would argue that this is not racism. This is a reaction to 'something' different. That child is not a racist. Again, to say that it is innate is a cop-out. If it is so ( innate ), then no racist can be guilty of racism. Jerry Baumchen

Hi Ken, Re: My position is that we are all racist and all tribal. It is innate in our social structure. I disagree, somewhat. I agree that our tribalism is what has brought us to be ( by some definitions ) the most advanced species on our planet. IMO racism is a learned thing; it has nothing to do with being innate. THAT would be a real cop-out for all racists. "The devil made me do it." Jerry Baumchen

Hi Wendy, with the exception that if she makes threats on other members of Congress' And: 'who have opined that a bullet to the head of the Speaker of the House of Representatives would be the most efficient way of removing' End of discussion. Jerry Baumchen

Hi Joe, Re: if Trumpism has exposed anything in America it's that our neighbors are not who we thought they were. Six years ago I was having lunch with one of my best friends, a true liberal. I told him this very thing. He did not believe me then, he does now. Jerry Baumchen

Hi folks, There is an old saying about every barrel has at least one rotten apple. Both my mom & my dad were one of eight children. One of my uncles, on my mother's side, spent two years in prison. One of my uncles, on my dad's side, was told by a District Attorney that he needed to leave town. This one is going to be fun to watch: GOP Discord Over . . . Marjorie Taylor Greene Liz Cheney, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Trump And Republican Discord : NPR Jerry Baumchen PS) And to be somewhat fair: Fannie Foxe is a former stripper, best known for being involved in a 1974 sex scandal surrounding Arkansas Congressman ( D ) Wilbur Mills Fanne Foxe - Wikipedia

Hi Ken, Talk about an ominous prediction. IMO there are too many people on here going on & on about what we should have done. It made me think of this: Chad & Jeremy - Yesterday's Gone (1964) - Bing video Jerry Baumchen

Hi Westerley, Re: I'd advocating for creating a plan So would I. However, we ( and the entire world ) are in unchartered waters simply because this is all new to us. I fully understand & accept that there will be mistakes as we go forward. Life is like that. As a young man, I served in the US military & worked in military hospitals. I remember when they first explained battlefield triage procedures to us. I thought that was a brutal plan. But, you do what you can with what you are faced with. Jerry Baumchen

Hi heels, Re: tried-to-sell-50-million-face-masks-he-didnt-have Was this 'johns creek' guy named Trump? Jerry Baumchen

Time to just drop the COVID relief payments...
JerryBaumchen replied to Westerly's topic in Speakers Corner
Hi Doug, I am one who really, really wants to keep the national debt as low as possible. I even support raising taxes to actually pay it down ( blasphemy to most politicians ). However, these are no where near 'normal times.' It is time to step up to the plate and do what we can to help our people & our economy. Jerry Baumchen -
Hi Robert, WOW!!!! Re: Thomsen said he had two goals throughout the run: not to break the speed limit Good on them. Prior to this, I did not know of/have read of anyone who did the Cannonball without breaking speed limits. Not that I know a lot of them. Jerry Baumchen PS) However, it should be noted that they were not able to take any of their sheets of plywood with them.

Hi folks, BREAKING NEWS on my local tv station evening news just now. It seems as though a federal judge ( I have no other info ) has ruled that the adults incarcerated in Oregon Correctional Facilities ( prisons ) must go to the head of the line for Covid-19 vaccinations. This decision is the result of a lawsuit previously filed. I would be OK with their just being integrated into the existing state protocols, and get in line like the rest of us. Jerry Baumchen

Hi Bill, I continue to be amazed at far & how fast the infrastructure for EVs have come. Back when the automobile(s) first became available in this country, if you wanted fuel, you had to take your own container(s) ( usually glass back then ) to a pharmacy, pay them, and then they would fill your container(s). Then you had to get back home & put the fuel into your automobile. IMO rather inconvenient for any long-distance travelling. Jerry Baumchen

Hi folks, Re: McConnell Slams Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Conspiracies As 'Loony Lies' I realize that this is only early February, but I want to nominate the above as the understatement of 2021. McConnell Slams Marjorie Taylor Greene's Conspiracy Theories : NPR Jerry Baumchen

Public service announcement for Trump supporters

Hi folks, I have posted that the past election would be referendum on Trump. It would seem as though I might have been right. Trump pollster's campaign autopsy paints damning picture of defeat Trump pollster's campaign autopsy paints damning picture of defeat - POLITICO This article says that the country was simply fed up with Trump. Hi folks, Looks like one less 'Trump supporter.' 'Thousands Of Republicans Drop Out Of GOP' A life-long R calls it quits. I'm sure ( well, hopeful ) that there will be more to do this. Registered Republicans Ditch Party After Capitol Riot : NPR Actions have consequences; or something like that. Jerry Baumchen
