Meanwhile, here in Islandia, small island nations without resources or options took the whole Covid-19 thing pretty damn seriously. And they've been beating the bug. I've personally spent more weeks in lockdown this year than at any time since I got caught looking in my sisters underwear drawer. Today, after a 4 day sail to Aruba I'm in quarantine again. Only 10 more days because of the 4 days at sea credit. Everywhere it's been two weeks. Sometimes in a selected hotel at your own expense. But the result is that when you are out you are free to move about in as Covid-19 free environment as you can hope for these days. Strong Leadership based on science is the difference. What is now slightly annoying is the USA. Islands are forming "bubbles" where you can travel between islands in the bubble without quarantine. But, and no great surprise, the US is seen as an "at risk" nation. When we complete quarantine here, if we choose, we can go to other bubble nations. But..... as soon as flights from the US start arriving that stops. Then, because once again you are pinned in place, choosing carefully is very important. These places do not care if we have 13 Nuclear powered Aircraft Carrier Battle Groups. They would simply like it if we took seriously the novel notion of not sending sick people to their country. We really are becoming a Banana Republic.

I can sort of see your point. But in fairness, I seek to entertain you and a few others not Ron.
-
Good deal. Thank you. Hopefully anyone now, who isn't terminally lonely, bored or is a moderator who lives in fear of a single poster on SC being cast away, can see how utterly stultifying it is to entertain Ron. 1

Good on you for taking him in and good on you for giving him the gate if he won't toe the line. The counseling route is not your commitment or problem, not at this late stage in the game. As my dear dad once inquired: "Son, do you know what all old assholes have in common?". "No, say's I". Say's he: "They were all young assholes. Keep that in mind".
-
Dammit Yoink, don't be harshing poor Nigel or sending him off to some quack counselor like you know who. I'm already helping him with his alcohol problem.

Enough is enough. He drank your fine wine stash. Put his sorry ass out with the recycling. Two things, maybe he's not your Dad. That needs some investigation. And two, maybe your inability to deal with an easy to resolve situation is caused by your foolish one glass a night wine limitation. You pound down a couple of good bottles in quick succession and I guarantee you'll resolve this in no time flat.

WTF? Did Turtle hijack you account?
-
And one year later Ron was born. Coincidence? I don't see how.
-
I would take the offer in a heartbeat, thank you, but I'm readying to haul anchor and ass for Aruba. I'm seeing a few too many not caused by AGW and warming oceans named storms spinning up. Time to head south.

Seriously? This is an internet forum and we're ruled by some dude in southern California who gets to decide what words mean. Because the ignore feature is essentially useless, if you want to be here you need to suffer all comers and all gomers. The only glass we can break is our computer screens; the only stuff we can loot we already own. The only thing you can do to avoid moving at Turtle speed or peering into the Ron dimension is get off line which is exactly what he did. Now I suppose he could have returned riding a horse and waving a flag but then how would you know it?

Did you coin that? If so you are my hero and will get my next 5 likes.

National protests against Minneapolis police murderers?
JoeWeber replied to normiss's topic in Speakers Corner
It's a sad time when it's reasonable to believe that the only difference between the cops and the crooks is the badge. -
You seriously have zero clue what is in play here. Take off the blinders, man, being choked to death, beat senseless or shot down for shits and giggles does not equate to being "tired of being policed".
-
You stand with them. You live it because you believe it. You believe it because it is the obvious truth is in front of your eyes. You say it out loud, that's how you change it. And if the opportunity presents itself you get off your ass and walk with them. No one getting gassed, hit with rubber bullets or even looting thinks that's the solution. They're just tired of screaming "look at me, look at me" when no one ever looks.
-
"I agree...there's been far too much of it." Dude, we aren't talking about bechamel sauce on your Eggs Benedict. Oh, excuse me, but there is far too much of it! We're talking about systemic police violence against black men and women in America. And the title of the thread does not give you a pass. Frankly, I think the issue is empathy. Somehow there seems to be a fair bit less of it amongst those who espouse "conservative values".

No, and that's the problem. Not everyone who saw the video knew it was wrong, not in the sense you imply. For example, the DA didn't "know" it was wrong in the sense that the bastard, and his asshole buddies, needed to be immediately locked up on murder charges. Of course looting and arson is wrong. But for just one second try to imagine living a life where you and your friends were not only deprived equal access to all society can offer, just owing to your skin color, but also subject to police harassment and murder. Then add to that the fact that the cop who killed someone who looked like you, or your family member would probably get away scot free. Can you imagine, for just one second, eventually being so pissed off you might want to break something? You know, just to remind yourself you aren't completely powerless in the face of what you deal with every damn day. Think about it.

You guy's are the best. Thanks.

Could be some idiot with a full cart and 50 coupons who needed help with every item was in front of him, too. I know I've felt that way.
-
That's a great idea. Maybe add the CBD instead of Azithromycin? But how does it get into my computer? Through the router?
-
So, and I'm just thinking ahead here, is there an app or usb stick or something I can buy that erases everything I've done on the internet?
-
And the Army arrives on Adventure Tours busses. If they can keep up the comedy factor I just might be OK with the new normal.

Everything will be A-O, Q.

If this is as true as it appears to be we are truly swirling down the toilet as a nation. No insignia, no name plates, no nada. Just armed soldiers on the streets of the Nations Capitol ostensibly at the behest of Barr's DOJ.
-
Fair enough and, for you, well said. Consider yourself ignored.

Let me fix it then: That would require intellectual honesty, true integrity, a moral compass, ethical standards, and a bag of troll food and several smart people who can explain how to get paid news for free that informed your world view and required that you lived your life in a way that was more important to you than whatever you were getting in exchange for not having those basic ingredients of humanity. So, don't hold your breath, John.
