  1. Too bad the President simply can’t tell the Fed or DOJ or, never mind.
  2. Jerry, To be clear I only say change to D because it’s all just a numbers and perceptions game. R’s and D’s see each other as hard and fast but Independents are considered always in play. I consider myself a crappy Democrat and see the party as a party of indecision and many bad ideas. It’s just that Democrats have fewer bad ideas than Republicans at the moment.
  3. Could be. He's a thinker and deserves the credit and an ear for the effort. After reading his gun issue solutions my take is that they are too complicated, parsed, nuanced, hopeful, and, well, unworkable. Sort of like what you'd expect from a silly democrat like me. So, yes, A for effort but it's an A paper destined for a Republican Representatives garbage can; the D rep's don't need the advice. As stated, I think a more sensible solution is to change parties and then proudly fly that flag when next with your compatriots. But that won't happen because of things like the fetal heartbeat when is a cell cluster a baby confusion that is more important than, apparently, everything else. I just don't think it's a question of deserving better; we all stay or go from here, for the most part, of our own volition. I personally don't want to think I live in a world where BIGUN wasn't there keeping track of my fajita credits. But when one comes to have fun at the festival of ideas you ought not to be offended when not everyone likes your party hat.
  4. Hmm.. Things are unheating up in the Carib.
  5. I guess Tiffany is a research assistant at Georgetown Law where she remained after graduation. She ought to be having an interesting career.
  6. With respect, if you want to do something impactful go to your local voting registration office and check the box that say's Democrat. Then, on the way home, tell all of your conservative friends that if they really care about gun violence in America to do the same because nothing will change until their favorite demagogue sees the numbers swinging against them.
  7. NY AG James just filed against Trump, his kids, "others", and the Trump Organization for fraud.
  8. OK, please direct our attentions to where BIGUN's approach, the one he adversely requires that we all adhere to so as to maintain our legitimacy, has "moved" the needle. He's smart, passionate and not fully in the box with his tribe but that would describe many of us here and is equally without pertinence. No person of letters has a snow balls chance in hell of adjusting, if only by an iota, the NRA bought and paid for position of the majority of the pandering, demagogic, right wing political minority that controls issue of gun control in America. Now, if BIGUN want's to lead a letter writing campaign that targets the right wing politicians he's helped install with sage advice on how to pull ones head out of their asses I might interested. But the idea that a well turned phrase can influence someone with the mentality of Sen. Tom Thune to reverse, or in any way meaningfully change, their position that AR-15's can never be restricted because they are useful for shooting prairie dogs is nothing short of phantasmagorical. Count me also as a "yawn".
  9. I'm assuming Brent is away on his annual sojourn to Grenada.
  10. What the holy hell have you been smoking?
  11. Texas wanted to be on the border with Mexico and made no mention of a wall at the time. And now it's supposed to be my problem?
  12. No, I don't. Of course, for everyone except the most brainwashed conservatives, that's not the point. There is a real conversation to be had about immigration, border control, asylum and even giving citizenship to birth tourists. (BTW, that's what my wealthy Venezuelan friends do) Sadly, that conversation is impossible to have with folks that have blindered and filtered world views.
  13. Several of us dudes once flew a tight friend, who was soon to be our boss, in a private plane to Reno and ditched him there the day before his wedding to the daughter of the owner of the company. That was funny, even she agreed. What DeSantis did was not funny; what he did was an act of cruelty to fellow humans by the highest elected official in his state. Sorry that escapes you.
  14. Just finished reading the DOJ's appeal to the 11th Circuit. In it they cited the 11th Circuit 5 times including a 2021 decision. "The injunction also unduly interferes with the criminal investigation. It prohibits the government from accessing the seized records to evaluate whether charges are appropriate and even from “bringing charges based on” those records. A9. “The notion that a district court could have any input on a United States Attorney’s investigation and decision whether to ... bring a case” is “entirely incompatible with the constitutional assignment to the Executive Branch of exclusive power over prosecutorial decisions.” In re Wild, 994 F.3d 1244, 1287 (11th Cir. 2021) (Tjoflat, J., concurring)." They also cited Cobbledick v. United States which I mention only because I'm so juvenile I can't stop laughing. "see Cobbledick v. United States, 309 U.S. 323, 325 (1940) (“[E]ncouragement of delay is fatal to the vindication of the criminal law.”)."
  15. The 11th Circuit has given Trumps Lawyers until Tuesday to reply to the DOJ's appeal of Cannons decision. Who knows which three judges drew the case but it surely isn't good news for Trump that the 11th Circuit thinks it serious and shouldn't be delayed even a little.
  16. We can only hope that right wingers across Florida reflect on what DeSantis did: causing harm to people, or any life, for enjoyment is what sociopaths do. It was that wrong.
  17. Hysteria is also profitable. That's not an argument against AGW, just a fact.
  18. Anyone who would use human beings like single use toys to make cheap political points is unfit to lead. Period.
  19. If we ran poverty more like a business these problems would magically resolve.
  20. Taking farmworkers to a vineyard is a crime now?
  21. Long since done. But as you observed previously, it ain’t enough.
  22. Whatever it is I'll be glad when he loses his novelty.
  23. Let no one claim you can't learn things working in a laundromat.
  24. Been doing that for 34 years, thanks.
