6:30 AM?! I've heard of this time, yet never experienced it. Tell me, strange one, what color is the sky on your planet? Can you tell I'm not a morning person?

your average fallrate on your belly
Kris replied to heidihagen's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My average belly speed is 135-ish because I'm built like a homesick nickle-plated safe with rounded corners. However, even as an anvil, my track goes sub-100mph. That's the difference between a mediocre track, and a good track. A good track away from a formation should have you rising up and away from it. Not increasing speed and diving. I was taught as a newbie that tracking is a definite survival skill, and as such, it's something I work on bettering with every jump. -
I'll be happy to kick in some cash beforehand if needed. Oh, and I really do wear an XXL.

TK, you'd better fix that weather thing fast, considering that I'll be visiting your DZ again in two weeks. I expect sunshine, calm breezes, preferably around the low 80's in temp. Get on that. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

Actually, I've gotten that a couple of times. Once on a FF dive that involved someone carving right into me (spooked me a lot), and on my first WS jump. No actual blood either time, but I could definitely smell it and taste it a bit after opening. I just wrote it off as weirdness. The human body is a weird thing at times. No, really, keep the drama between yourselves. Seriously.

Admit it, you just can't deny your sweaty, vulgar love for Brains! Welcome back to the area. Whenever I make it to SSM again, I'll have to say hi and share a beer with you.

You're going to love Cushing! That's where I got licensed at. The new owners are really great people, so you're going to have a blast! I usually jump at Skydive Hinton or Skydive Dallas, but will definitely be hitting OSC on occasion, too. If you ever see a 5'8" Messican, in all purple gear, with the body of a god (okay, yeah, so it's Buddha!), come over and introduce yourself!

Do skydivers care about safety? Bill Booth
Kris replied to skydived19006's topic in Gear and Rigging
Depends on what one is looking for. Also, you can only make a canopy so agressive / responsive before you start affecting other areas of flight. It's all a balancing act as far as what each canopy does/offers/gives. Increase the AoA (angle of attack) and it might be very unstable in turbulence, or might flare poorly. Make it turn really fast and it may be exceedingly prone to bad openings, line-twists, oversteer, etc... And, probably the biggest reason, for those that like to swoop, the bigger the canopy and the longer the lines the more drag it's going to have. A Manta won't surf over 400', but a sub-100 Velocity has done it easily. Just my $0.02 as a newbie swooper, and I'd be interested in hearing anything I may have gotten wrong or missed. -
Do skydivers care about safety? Bill Booth

Eesh. Well, if I'm under my reserve, I want as much square footage as possible for starters. I'm possibly low, possibly going to be doing an off landing, possibly unconscious/hurt, and/or may have to put it down in a backyard. Forget convenience and style. I'd love to have a rig that holds a PD-218R, or a Smart-220 reserve and a 150 main. If I'm under my reserve, you know what...? I've had enough excitement for one skydive. Skoda? I told her to get the 4-door version of the Yugo, the We-go. I recommend a big-ass Wings-West aluminum wing, in hot pink, and a Folgers coffee-can exhaust. Don't forget the speaker under the hood you can buy that mimics the sound of a turbo spooling up. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

You understand wrong. The G5 has fallen far short of the performance that Apple had hoped for. Especially in power-per-watt. The G5 would make a great griddle though. Not only will the new Mac's be using Intel 64-bit CPU's. They'll be using the dual-core version. Granted, it's not as nice of a dual-core implementation like AMD's Athlon 64, but it's still incredibly faster and more efficient than the G5. For you and Missy? I'll get you your own pitchers. I'll just make a pitcher with red Kool-Aid and some canned fruit cocktail for the others and convince them it's real. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™
