Agreed. Why was she unable to cutaway? Was the rig inspected by her prior to her jumping it? And what do you mean by 'contrived'? I hate to say it, but you may want to read the orange warning label located on the rig, or the main, or the reserve. No manufacturer guarantees the operation of their components. Also, none of the manufacturers carry insurance for just that reason...liability. If it's money you're after, it's a pointless cause. Yup, me too. However, I do have to give her mad props for putting down the beer she had just cracked open (probably just by staring at it until it opened itself out of fear) to come drive 2.5 hours one way to come get me from Austin and take me back to San Antonio. And, yes, the senses were very sharp each time I got out of her vehicle. I just felt so much more...alive...thankful to be a part of it all...and still breathing witout a ventilator or trauma unit assistance. But you, my crazy friend, you actually skydive with her? If someone only gets 15% from me then it was pretty bad service. However, the sushi bar is different. For drinks, 25% of the drink bill. After all, she is serving you, and probably not anything high-dollar to begin with if it's just drinks. Waitresses live off of their tips for a service they perform. Their minumum wage ($3 these days?) is horrible to begin with because they expect to make it up in tips. Don't forget the sushi chef. He needs to be tipped his share as well in appreciation of the art he has created for you to consume. I'll generally tip 20-25% here as well. Well said. I think I do very well in all aspects of working with my IAD students, but I'll be the first to admit that I'm the last guy you want on the radio talking them down. I can fly my own pattern and landing just fine, I'm just lousy at doing so for others. Sky, Muff Bro, Rodriguez Bro, and Bastion of Purity and Innocence!™

S-turns on final are generally considered to be bad form. It throws everyone off as now there is someone with an unpredictable approach in the pattern. Whether someone is a newbie or a swoop god, the best piece of advice I have ever heard was "Never let your canopy take you somewhere your mind hasn't been to at least several minutes before." Translation: use a pattern, hone your accuracy, increase your awareness. By doing so one is not only making themselve safer by becoming a pilot rather than a passenger. Also, they're being considerate, and hopefully predictable, to others. Jumping a Stiletto at even a mere 1.38:1, I still think about my pattern on the ride up based upon where the exits are happening at my DZ. Of course patterns are a constantly varying thing based upon current conditions, but planning ahead never hurts. Christ....man, that's just....whoa. I've been there. Had to be chauffered by her for a weekend when I totalled my car coming to TX to visit her and do some jumps at SSM. If my gear has to stay in my car while I'm at dinner with the gang or something then I trust my car alarm to help with that, but it's not a guarantee. Mine is a 2-way system with 1/4 mile range. Besides my rig, my stereo would take about $3K to replace so I make sure it's well protected. Go nuts. I have two external sirens, two pain-generators inside the car, and my trunk can only be opened by the remote now unless the key is in the ignition. Viper Responder At $299 installed for the basic non-remote start model it's a nice deterrent that could save you thousands if you plan to leave your gear in the car.

I have accepted XM radio as my personal savior. I installed mine two weeks ago and I'm kiciking myself for not doing it sooner. Right now, I'm flipping between the 80's channel, the old school rap channel, the punk channel, and the techno/trance channels. I put over 30K miles a year on my car so I'm quite the stereo fanatic. XM will be an incredible buddy to have along on those long road-trips. I'll probably check out the comedy channels more in-depth when I have my next road trip. I went ahead and paid for a quarter years service, but I think I'm going to go ahead and prepay the next two years because it isn't coming out of my car. Nope, there was a woman several years back who had a premie reserve fire and the reserve lodged on the tail of the plane with her in-tow.
