Hey, BBBB....I hear ya', woman! A couple weeks ago I came slidin' in on my bare knees at about 40 mph.....finally healed.....then crashed in a bean field last weekend. Prior to that, Ihad not fallen down in more than 400 jumps!!!!! Yeah....humble pie! LOL BUT I must say that it didn't cross my mind that green, purple, and yellow were anything but gear for Michelle.... I think this girl's got her timing down now.... just don't get cocky, chick! Yeah....and actually we'll send our plane up with only 2 experienced jumpers....which actually LOSES money....but we do it regularly. That's a dzo's call, though. It would be a nice thing to do for your customers, though. In fact, Jim Weddle, at another dz around here use to come out on Wednesday and Fridays for me and a camera guy so that I could jump my board. Now THAT was accommodating.... Usually someone else would show up, but if not, he'd just fly the two of us as many times as we wanted to go up.... My husband would NEVER do that, but he's still pretty flexible. That's being kind. However....I still think it's rude for someone to come out and EXPECT for people to lose money or rearrange their plans to accommodate you.... ESPECIALLY if you're not willing to make a jump or two alone..... Some of my favorite jumps have been with newbies. But if anyone ever got huffy with me because I decided not to make a jump with 'em, you can bet I'd never make that person a priority again. lol.....so how exactly is this supposed to go? So there's a student and a coach manifested, but nobody to fill up the load, and there's a 4 way ready to go. Is the 4 way supposed to split up and some of them spend their money to do a 2 way to fill up your load? Or is the plane just gonna sit there until 2 more people come along to fill up the load? Come on.....sometimes you've just gotta take your lumps and move on. You can't REALLY expect for jumpers to cater to you like that....if you do, you're in for a rude awakening. It's just realistic....even where jumpers really do cater to low-time jumpers it's plain rude for you to expect that paying jumpers are gonna change their plans for you. It's not their fault that nobody else showed up to fill your load..... As far as how a person is going to get more experienced if nobody is willing to jump with them... I didn't hear her saying that nobody's willing to jump with her....just that on this particular day there weren't enough jumpers to fill up two loads, and the other 4 people wanted to jump together. If nobody EVER wanted to jump with you, I'd be finding another dz.... but you can't expect them to ALWAYS jump with you either.... Peas! Lindsey -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Well....surely you can understand folks going out after work to jump and not always wanting to jump with a student.... I enjoy jumping with students, but I sure don't want to do it all the time. When you're at a Cessnas dz, if you're getting on the plane with someone, you're usually jumping with them.... If ya' want to do a 4- or 5-way, you're not gonna be on the plane with a student and her coach. If there's a 2-way with no one to fill up the load or a 4-way waiting, the plane's probably gonna take the 4-way up.... Now, granted, it would have been kind for those folks to rearrange what they were doing to accommodate you, but it would also be much better form for you not to expect them to, imho. Peas! I was most frightened on jumps 2 and 7. My 7th was the first off the static line...lol....cracks me up now. I didn't question my future in skydiving then, but I have considered not jumping since my child was born. I've found that not jumping is not an option though.... Never really waxed philosophical on what caused that fear....seems kinda like a no-brainer to me....jumping out of an airplane is inherently life-threatening. I remember that....early on when the skills aren't up to par yet....especially on a weekday after work when there's only time for one or two jumps....the experienced jumpers usually wanted to go out and do something that I wasn't capable of. I remember feeling down about it, too. You just have to accept that sometimes they're gonna want to jump without a low time person on the load. If you're cool about that, then I bet they'll be a lot more accommodating other times. Of course, when I started, there were no coach jumps. People jumped with me out of the goodness of their hearts. I really came to appreciate that they allowed me on as many loads as they did.....lol.... Hang in there....before long, you'll be the one that everyone seeks out for a good 4-way or to organize the 8-way formation load! Keep your chin up, girl. about 50 (number of bean plants I swooped on my mile-and-a-half-off-dz landing): 1: 0 Had a friend visit this weekend who's having relationship problems, so we hung out watching movies yesterday and drinking beer. My child went to the lake with his little buddy today, and we went for a mid-afternoon jump.....ended up walking through a BUNCH (about 100 yards) of beans, across a snake-infested creek that required that I climb down a 6 foot vertical drop), and along the levee of a huge irrigation ditch before making it to a road, where a farmer's wife graciously provided a lift back to the dz. This in 98 degree temps with NO WIND! Now I know by many people's standards, a 110 sq ft canopy is not small, but for me, today, I was so glad I had it. I felt bad for the guy on the load that had to haul the Raven 4 on his long trek.....woulda sucked! But the bean swoop was kinda cool. I went through a SL progression. On one of my last dives as a student, my instructor just told me to go out and relax. He told me to, once I was good and stable, take a deep breath, bend my head back, and to do nothing with my arms and legs except to let the wind blow them back. He wanted me to like totally relax.
