Obvious to who? You? Spaniards? Germans? I had my first pellet gun when I was much younger than 10. Almost every kid I know/knew did and you can be sure my kid will have his before then. He will have a .22 also by then hopefully. My 11 year old Brother in Law has high power rifles and larger bore shotguns in his gunsafe. I will let him clean and shoot my long guns anytime. Don't push your European ideals on us please. Ooooh, guy, slow down. Not everybody used to grow up with a "weapon" whatever. Let me just repeat: We Europeans are old fashioned enough to wait and check. My personal feelings are, to hide weapons no matter which kind, so my kids will not find them. This has nothing to do with Spaniards or Germans... It's just the feeling of a mother/father which does not want to see their kids bitching around with a killing item/tool. Here in South Arkansas, it's not uncommon for parents to take their 5 year-old children hunting. My cousin's child killed his first deer when he was 6. I'm not quite on board with the tradition of taking young children hunting, but I bet Austin (my cousin's child) at 10 is able to handle a firearms more safely than most adults. I made about 600 jumps in the couple years before my child was born and about 200 in the 8 years since. Besides my concerns about if I were to get badly injured or, even worse, killed, he doesn't like going to the dropzone, so I haven't dragged him out there much. That's made it a lot harder to find time for jumping. Also, medical school was not the breeze for me that it is for those brainer folks, and I've had to study a lot on the weekends. My public highschool diploma was provided to me by the taxpayers, with the need for only minimal motivation on my own part.....i.e I had to show up and complete my homework assignments. That's all fine and good, but as long as our society agrees to pay for people to have children they can't afford, then people will accept what is handed out. Although social policy changes may come slowly, I think those changes are a lot easier to affect. People who are okay with having the rest of us pay their way aren't going to change as easily. That being said, I do think that there is a place for public assistance. It should be available to people, imho, in difficult times. But it should NOT be available as people's primary means of support over years.... Just my opinion. It certainly should not be extended, in ANY form, to people who are here in our country illegally. I would love to know what kind of a medical assessment was being done that her father would have to leave.. She was near death already! If they were checking for a corneal reflex, for instance, they may not have wanted her parents there, especially if they had shown themselves to be lacking in restraint and composure. If they were doing caloric stimulation, they may not have wanted her parents there. Of course I would want them to be able to be with me and my husband, but if they acted so badly toward my husband then their right to be with us in my last minutes would be lost. linz You don't even want them their on your death bed? How sad for them. I live 2000 miles away from my family, I watched my dad die 2 years ago on saturday. When they decided he wasn't going to get better or even survive the ride home, they called me and I came because he wanted me there. I can't imagine not having your family there at least those that wanted to be their. LETS SAY THAT SHE NEVER REALLY SAID THAT SHE WOULDN"T WANT TO LIVE IS THIS STATE and her husband said that she if fact did...........same result quit feeding her. She still had the power to choose her spouse. Good decision or bad. Upon entering a marriage, adults, in effect, choose who will make life and death decisions for them. I think that you're making assumptions that denigrate both the institution of marriage in general and more specifically Michael and Terri's commitment to each other. Even though God knows there are a lot of bad marriages out there, I think that we have to assume that when a person chooses to marry someone, then they have chosen to make that relationship primary in their lives. Most anyone can make a baby. That takes no commitment to the person's life whatsoever. Most kids will grow up, with or without parents who love them. When a person chooses a spouse, I hope he/she takes those vows seriously, because marriage is more than a choice to live lovingly together forever. It's a contract that gives partners a degree of legal responsibility for each other. My assumption would have to be that two people in any marriage are totally committed to each other and that their relationship is the most sacred of all relationships. There are definately exceptions, but until a person takes the steps to legally dissolve that relationship then the marriage remains the primary relationship, imho. I'm very, very close to my parents. However, they are not the people I would want making these kinds of decisions for me. It's not because I don't think they would do the best they could. It's just that the nature of our relationship is that of mother-daughter or father-daughter. They have raised me. They have nurtured me and always done what they believed was best for me and my future. They don't know me as an equal, though. They don't know me as a partner. They don't know my deepest heart or mind. The person whom I have made a commitment of marriage with, would know those things (except, of course, in MY case, in which my marriage SUCKED...lol.)
