I didn't see that he was advocating arbitrary stumbling blocks. More that he was advocating easy access to birth control and education, so fewer abortions happen overall.
-
Your choice is in choosing to live here. Don't like the taxes? either vote for fewer taxes, or move.

Well, since abortion occurs during the pregnancy, I think the primary issue is during the pregnancy. After delivery, there are options. Adoption, safe-surrender, raise the kid, etc.... Before delivery, there are two: carry the fetus, or don't.
-
That was exactly my point.

While I respect your personal view, we're not talking about 'carrying it' we're talking about killing it. How can a woman (or man) have the 'right' to kill a unborn child? The fetus is inside her body, changing it, taking nutrients from it, and altering the way it functions. If we can come up with a way to remove the fetus and gestate it elsewhere without subjecting the mother to a level of risk higher than current, I'm all for outlawing abortion and taking the fetus out and giving the resulting child to someone who wants it, provided there is a waiting list of people willing to raise the kid. The thing is, as long as we don't have a way to remove the fetus from the woman without killing the fetus, since it's her body that's hosting the fetus, her rights come first.

Um... of course they think that the embryo is human, what the heck else is it going to be? Squirrel? Chromosomes/sperm from human male plus chromosomes/ovum from human female equals human zygote, presumably alive. So, at conception, you obviously have a human cell that is alive. Whether or not the cell is a person is a different debate entirely.

The problem with this is that it encourages women to falsely report rape. They either have to: 1. allow any woman who says "rape" to have an abortion 2. allow any woman with a substantiated claim to have an abortion (investigations take time...), or 3. only allow abortion after a conviction (very impractical). The logistics of that just don't work out. If you go with 1, the woman gets her abortion and a man (possibly innocent) gets investigated for rape. This encourages women who want abortions to file false police reports. Sure, they may get investigated and charged for this, but they got their abortion. If you go with 2, the woman may have actually been raped and the evidence just isn't there (sometimes it really isn't), and if you go with 3, well, investigations and trials can take a long time. Sometimes much longer than 9 months.

At the time a baby is one week old, that baby can be given up for adoption or left at one of the many safe drop-off locations. When the child becomes separate from the mother, that's where society is permitted to step in.

As long as the fetus is inside a woman, it's her choice whether to continue to carry it. Like I said in the other thread, my personal choice is that I would never have an abortion unless my life was in danger, but I'm not going to tell anybody else what to do with their own bodies. With regards to where life begins, I don't care, and I think that clouds the debate. It's her body. Period. I think it would be awesome if we can develop the technology to simply remove the fetus, raise it in an artificial womb, and give it to someone who wants a baby but can't have one. The waiting lists to adopt infants are huge. As far as capital punishment, I oppose it, because I know that the justice system is far from perfect.

Whether or not someone else has an abortion is absolutely none of my business, so I feel I'm not qualified to have an opinion. Personally, I would not have an abortion unless my life was in danger. That's my choice. I'm not going to tell anybody else what to do.

Both sides are responsible, especially now. Bush is continuing the war. The democrats are letting him by continuing to fund it and by voting only for meaningless "resolutions" against it.

I carry a mask with me, but yes, I'd probably do CPR without one, but I'd go with the compression only CPR rather than the compression plus breathing. There's not much of a difference in survival rates since there's enough oxygen in the blood to keep the brain sufficiently oxygenated for a while. Some studies are indicating that the patient is actually better off when single-rescuer CPR is compression only.

What is this? Try to stump Nightingale with random baseball questions? Off the top of my head: 1. being forced from first by a base hit 2. being advanced by a walk 3. being advanced by a balk 4. stealing 5. if a runner is hit by a ball 6. some cases of dead ball 7. being illegally interfered with during a steal 8. if a fielder tries to catch the ball with his hat I don't have time to think anymore... there's probably some I've missed, but I gotta log off.

it seems like the answer would be 3, but it's actually unlimited, since the pitcher gets credit for a K even if the strike gets past the catcher and the batter gets to base. The pitcher can get "strikeout" credit even if the batter isn't really out.

' Yes, of course. Rule book section 4.11c (c) If the home team scores the winning run in its half of the ninth inning (or its half of an extra inning after a tie), the game ends immediately when the winning run is scored. EXCEPTION: If the last batter in a game hits a home run out of the playing field, the batter-runner and all runners on base are permitted to score, in accordance with the base-running rules, and the game ends when the batter-runner touches home plate.

I love baseball and hockey. Ask me a soccer or american football question, and I'll have absolutely no clue.

It has nothing to do with the speed of the runner on third. Any runs scored during a play which results in the third out by the batter running to first base do not count. Ditto with any runs scored during a force third out or if someone misses a base and becomes a third out. "4.09 (a) One run shall be scored each time a runner legally advances to and touches first, second, third and home base before three men are put out to end the inning. EXCEPTION: A run is not scored if the runner advances to home base during a play in which the third out is made (1) by the batter runner before he touches first base; (2) by any runner being forced out; or (3) by a preceding runner who is declared out because he failed to touch one of the bases. "

Okay... go to www.mozilla.com and install firefox. Use that, and see if it works. If not, it's probably an issue with the website.

Disneyland vacation...how many days do we need at the park?

Gotta love the mouse! The best way to see Epcot is to bring along or buy a Pal Mickey that will provide you with up to date info about parade times, best places to watch, stuff you might not notice, and explanations about where you are. In Epcot, he'll even greet you with the language of the area. -
1. Even though I passed the bar, I'm not a lawyer (yet). 2. Even if I was, I have absolutely no experience with class actions, so I wouldn't feel competent taking on something like that on my own. 3. That said, I wouldn't mind donating some time to do some legal assistant/non-lawyer stuff if someone else wanted to take it on.

There's been so many of these rip-offs, from people wanting to do tandems to DZOs. I'm really wondering why there hasn't been a class-action suit.

How long did it take you to get your bachelor's degree?
Nightingale replied to windcatcher's topic in The Bonfire
From what I've seen, if you're set on the BA and know you will finish (and I'm sure you will!), there's no reason to waste time with the AA. If you're stopping, an AA is better than no degree.
